This last hymn in my unplanned, four-part series on the theme of Jesus' death and resurrection, speaks about the depth of love Christ has for us. Our human minds cannot take in the depth of Christ's love. Paul tell us the only way we can have a chance of understanding it in his epistle to the Ephesians; "That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God." Only if Jesus is in our heart, can we begin to comprehend His love for us and what He did for us which has eternal benefits.
Thank you to the patient listener who requested this hymn over two months ago. It is a lovely reminder of how much the Lord loves us and what He was willing to go through for us. God bless!
How Deep the Father's Love for Us
Verse 1
How deep the Father's love for us,
How vast beyond all measure,
That He should give His only Son,
To make a wretch His treasure.
How great the pain of searing loss,
The Father turns His face away,
As wounds which mar the Chosen One,
Bring many sons to glory.
Verse 2
Behold the man upon a cross,
My sin upon His shoulders,
Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice,
Call out among the scoffers.
It was my sin that held Him there,
Until it was accomplished,
His dying breath has brought me life,
I know that it is finished.
Verse 3
I will not boast in anything,
No gifts, no power, no wisdom,
But I will boast in Jesus Christ,
His death and resurrection.
Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer,
But this I know with all my heart,
His wounds have paid my ransom.
