Making Horus the Warmaster would probably have gone over better if the Emperor had made Horus "second-in-commond" while he was still leading it. If the Primarchs were already taking orders form Horus, with the Emperor there to keep his ego in check, the transition to Warmaster might have gone smoother.

The problem was Big E didn't want to worry about the crusade. If Horus was second in command then issues could still escalate to him if there were disagreements. Horus as warmaster meant the buck stopped with him.

The origin of all his problems is that Curze's pod didn't just land on Nostromo, it hit the planet at mach fuck and drilled into an Underhive. Food was so scarce that all Konrad had to eat were the monsters and cannibals trying to eat HIM! This is a problem because (along with the obvious) Primarchs have suped up versions of every organ a Space Marine has, including the one that lets Space Marines see the memories of living things they eat. Eating a bite gives them a glimpse of their surface memories, eating the whole body can cause you to develop personality quirks...Konrad Curze ate multiple cannibals for the first year of his life....thus the Night Haunter was born.

Alpha Legion was happy. Alpharious liked Horus's style more than the other Primarchs, so he intentionally set up Horus to find Omegon and get the glory for reuniting the last Primarch with his Legion (although Alpharious was secretly the real first found)

Here's some to consider: What if every Astartes Legion staged a coup on the Emperor and took over the Imperium? How would they rule it and how successful would it be, compared to the canon Imperium? What if 2 Primarchs held the Warmaster position cooperatively, under the assumption that those who would take issue at one Warmaster would respect the other one more and they could thus overall be more productive? Which nonhuman species would be the best fit for Chaos to take over and attain galactic dominance? If any one Loyalist and Traitor Primarch switched sides for the Horus Heresy, who would you choose for the best outcome for either the Loyalists, or the Traitors? What if the Silent King never got rid of his Command Protocols and took (almost) all the Necrons with him out of the galaxy to perhaps find a new and better one and come across the Tyranids? What if the Great Crusade had all the Primarchs and none turned Traitor, but there were no Astartes? What if the Beast Orks succeeded in defeating the Imperium? What if the Raptor Project succeeded/was never sabotaged? How would each Heresy/Crusade-era Primarch and Legion fare against the modern Tau Empire? What if one of the Primarchs landed on a xenos world and was raised by them? What if the Eldar managed to kill Angron before he was enslaved? What if another power rose to power during M31 instead of the Imperium, such as the Ullanor Orks, the Rangdan, or the Necrons via the Silent King returning early? What if the Beast Orks grew to threaten the Imperium before the Heresy could happen? What if the Tyranids arrived in M31, before the Heresy could happen?

Well, I don't know about some of those but here's the ones I do know. 'What if the Beast Orks succeeded in defeating the Imperium?' the setting ends as the Orcs continue to grow in strength and power, human worlds are taken over by choas and with that the shield the Eldar use as protection ends. 'How would each Heresy/Crusade-era Primarch and Legion fare against the modern Tau Empire?' They would completely crush them because any Zeno that sort independence would be destroyed by order of the emperor and I would say any full legion could have wiped them out. 'What if the Eldar managed to kill Angron before he was enslaved?' We loose maybe the worst Primarch but gain a loyal World Eaters legion for the Heresy. 'What if another power rose to power during M31 instead of the Imperium, such as the Ullanor Orks, the Rangdan, or the Necrons via the Silent King returning early?' Anything could have happened with that, too out there to really tell what would happen. 'What if the Beast Orks grew to threaten the Imperium before the Heresy could happen?' Would have done a lot more damage to a Legion but they would have been crushed by the combined might of the Great Crusade forces. What if the Tyranids arrived in M31, before the Heresy could happen?' The Emperor would have sensed the danger they posed and used the combined might of a Great Crusade Imperium to wipe them out and without any real borders for themselves the Tyranids would have lost pretty much any battle they found themselves in.

I'm convinced at least one of the two missing Primarchs was raised on an alien world. Could be that they were Xenos sympathizers who were either unwilling to take part in the Imperium's genocide or would otherwise be a terrible look for the imperium by having one of the emperor's sons openly embracing Xenos and their culture.

The first one i think it's safe to say the galaxy would do very well under the ultramarines. And if lorgar could resist chaos I think he'd do a fairly decent job ruling the galaxy. Magnus would also do fairly well as he would be able to sit on the golden throne.

Having one centralized leader works (for the most part) when it's the Emperor. If he simply appointed a triumvirate of warmasters which could make decisions with a 2/3rds majority ruling, then the position wouldn't be as divisive. Some of the primarchs would certainly object to whichever three would be chosen, but if they were allowed to have a say in who gets chosen, then that'd be an easier pill to swallow. Each primarch could sponsor up to three of his brothers (but not himself) as candidates, with the most widely-chosen candidates being placed as the three warmasters. If the Emperor were to hand-appoint the three, it would have some of the same issues that it did in canon, though perhaps not to the same extent.

That would have been interesting like: Big E: I will implement the warmaster triumvirate. Choose which 3 of your brothers orders would you follow. Remember you cannot vote yourself. That would force them to think about the others and theirs leading styles and if they could trust them with such big decisions. I personally would say G-Man, Lion, the Warhawk (sorry forgot his name right now) and Dorn would DEFINTLY be in the running while Angron and Konrad would probably not even in the be picked by one. But write your own thoughts and opinions on it.

@@Lickicker sure, but one of the Emperor's big issues is that he gave his sons too much autonomy at times, and too little at others. Giving the primarchs some say over who got to keep the crusade running might have been something to distract them from how they're all ultimately under his thumb regardless of who they pick (something that didn't sit well with half of them).

I like the theory that the Emperor gave the Job to Horus because he knew that if he gave it to the Lion, Sanguineous or Guilliman he would not be able to win in outright rebellion.

I don't think Lion would be that hard to win against. Hardly any other primarchs would like him enough to defect to his side. Horus worked to get Perturabo, Mortarian, Fulgrim and these 3 are indifferent towards the Lion. The Lion lacks Horus charisma. That just leaves Lion with his legion, World Eaters, Thousand Sons, Alpha Legion, and Word Bearers. Horus was also actively trying to help Konrad before Horus started planning betrayal. Loyal Horus may have been able to keep Konrad from turning his legion traitor.

But If it all went down differently and for example all the Primark's discovered the emperor stole power from chaos so chose to rebel for a different reason entirely then all the allegiances would be different. 8:09 This has actually made me wonder what the horus heresy would have been of Horus got any of the 1st pick brothers he wanted, cause from the sounds of Horus himself, it sounds like he got none, he saw no value in Angron and Konrad, he did nothing but complain about how much he hated Fulgrim for the entire heresy, he saw Lorgar as a nutjob, he thought Alpharious was incompetent in his job and straight up said Corvus would have been much better etc., with the only allies he seemed to have wanted being Mortarion, Magnus, and Perturabo, and even Perturabo comes with a big but, cause Horus explicitly says hed have preferred to have had Dorn, so he still saw him as a 2nd pick, and Magnus also comes with a but, cause he wanted full and complete Magnus as a opposed to the one he sctually got, so hoenstly those 2 dont really count, meanwhile he talks about how much he "wished he was with us" when he talks a out Roboute, he never tried to convert Ferrus or Magnus but he did want then, he likes Jaghatai and Vulkan, so it seems he wanted them, he explicitly says he wishes Fulgrim hadnt killed Ferrus cause he thinks Ferrus would have been of great value, no need to mention Dorn or Magnus, cause he explicitly favoured the former, and while he wanted the latter, the version of the latter he actually got was so different that he might as well not count it, he explicitly said hed have loved to have Corvus and his legion by his side, he was worried that Sanguinius could over take his position had he joined hjs side, yes, but he still laments the fact that he could have been a great asset, so he wanted Sanguinius despite his ego telling him no, the only people that were on his side that he would have picked and got seem to only be Mortarion, and the only people he was against that he was ok with being against seemed to be the Lion (I have a vague memory of him actually somewhere the saying would have been a great asset, but I cant remember where I heard it, or if its even real), it honestly seems like had he been given the choice, hed replace both teams with veru noticeable changes, so I wonder how the heresy would have gone had he gotten his 1st picks

The Lion would've been the most efficient warmaster, wrapping up the great crusade in half the time, but I think there would've been way more rebellions after the fact due to his (at the time) lack of diplomacy and empathy.

He didn't have empathy or diplomatic skills. Or the ability to explain himself in a manner befitting someone of that standing of his impressive record he would have actually done *worse* than Horus in that regard because he tends to force people to obey him even if you are a military commander you don't strong arm and bully someone into "do as I say and don't ask why" those under you need ALL the details including information dependant on their own clearance level based upon their own rank in theory this would work and has been the case for a lot of militaries as well. This is why presently his legion still can't be united in any manner of consistent level befitting a founding Legion, even the Iron Hands don't have that level of issue and they are more mentally screwed up than mister extreme paranoiac don't trust anyone, and cannot communicate in a manner that explains anything. This is how the Night Lords ended up on Macragge because of his screw up I believe they were imprisoned on his ship before they escaped and began to terrorize Macragge. It really is telling how he burned entire planets that could have been saved from chaos corruption but it was easier to kill everyone for the Lion instead of fighting the daemons saving both its people to the best of their ability and managing to hold planets with the most valuable resources. People, manpower, not just minerals and resources without people a army cannot function without men and women to provide the proper support and build the machinery, tools, weapons, ammunition required to keep the war effort going. The Lion actually had to make a conscious effort to be nice and more often than not I find him just a fine example of him beingana overgrown manchild with the personality and social skills of a sea urchin in 30k.

If you do decide to do more Primarch models, i would ask that you make them pre-heresy. Fulgrim gets the Fireblade sword, Perturabo doesn't have Ferrus' hammer, Horus' armour has no Chaos iconography, and so on. If you do Jaghatai Khan, put him on a custom jetbike. If you do Leman Russ, include his two wolf buddies.

I’d like to think that the Big-E thought there was a strong chance of a rebellion due to chaos, like all things future seeing it’d be based on probability rather than guaranteed. That said he probably saw it as likely enough that he had to put a plan in place to which, I imagine, that he knew if he put an incompetent person as warmaster then it might push a large number of Primarchs to Chaos since it’d highlight his incompetence / make everyone really confused and chaos would have prayed on that instead. On the other side of things, a very competent warmaster would always be the target of chaos since they had a powerful position by default. It’s a lose lose situation. He opted for a good Primarch to lose, one who could pull in and work with the weaker / less helpful Primarchs (like Angron). Obviously we know somethings didn’t go to plan. A few Primarchs stayed loyal that they didn’t expect and vice versa which evened the playing field. I’m not saying the overall plan of the emperor was smart but as for this part I’d like to think he was trying to do something akin to a controlled forest fire (even if he failed miserably).

even though he is a primarch and leads a legion of space marines, im pretty sure he focuses more on religion and faith, while other legions focused purely on combat. this isnt to say lorgar and the word bearers dont have combat experience, other legions are just more focused on it. similar to how the alpha legion is more stealthy compared to the blitz blind aggressiveness of the world eaters

Honestly, the better idea -if the emperor absolutely had to step away from the great crusade when he did- would've been to split the primarchs up into six groups of three. None above the rest, enough in one place to keep efficiency up, and an odd number to prevent hold ups on deciding what to do.

The Emperor never really made it clear why he chose that exact moment to abandon the Crusade to start on his project. But the one thing the books emphasize is that he was following some unknown time limit. Is the betrayal a fixed point in time that he couldn't avoid regardless? Maybe he knew that already. Hard to say.

So glad you got rid of that neck chain. You looked like one of the personalities from a reality TV show. But just putting it out there real quick, thanks for doing this series and keeping up with the fans and your customers. And always finding some new cool stuff to talk about when it comes to Warhammer whether it's well known or obscure. A lot of us like me pretty much got into the series by listening/watching your vids along with others like Wes Hammer. I'll be honest, I liked the chain. It made his outfit a bit less simplistic. I do wear a chain too though so maybe I'm biased.
