Honestly it didn't seem much at the time but a lot of stuff happening right now is because of the decisions of the three captains to set sail towards certain directions. Oda truly knows how to make the silly scenes relevant in the story. Apologies if this may seem a spoiler but if anything, this is to hype up future EPs. Buggy is Buggy. I really think it would be funny if Usopp defeated Buggy and became legendary for taking out a Yonko. It would also be a really good match up because Usopp and Buggy actually never met. Luffy defeated Buggy before Usopp joined the crew, and then they never came directly face to face during Logue Town. All Usopp saw was that Buggy was about to execute Luffy before a miracle lightning strike saved him. Then Usopp would have heard about Buggy and Luffy teaming up to lead the Impel Down breakout, and all of Buggy's other accomplishments. He might seriously perceive him to be at Luffy's level. They could legitimately both be afraid of each other due to their over inflated reputations and it would be the ultimate battle of lies.
