As far as western epistemology goes the story is real, just do some research on the early 1800s gangs Amalaaita, Ninevites and Nongoloza, born Mzuzephi Mathebula, he was a real person who died in what is now called Mpumalanga Province around the 1930s. Google John Steinberg's research on prison number's gang's

The 28 have their own truth regarding this story, 27 also have their own truth regarding this and 26 are also told different regarding this. Ngeleketyane never slept with a man He Found Nongoloza sleeping with one of Ngeleketyanes soldiers Magubane when asked why he did it he said it's in the Law given by Poll so they Fought bcz He said he is lying. Poll neither confirmed nor denied but rather said to Ngeleketyane go to the mines to see if men are sleeping with each other. This guy is soldier of 26 and a worker of 27 he doesn't know the truth properly..he 70% of it.

I have to admit! 🙈 Thoroughly, observe his thumbs when talking and getting deeper and deeper, you'll realize that the number - number culture is really drilled and drummed in their heads. Thumbs up is automatic no matter how hard he tries not to do it. Ai this culture is difficult

There's a believable story on a 90's Numbers Gangs documentary, the story starts with the 1 of the 2 originators mentioned here actually starting to rebel against porvety/oppression by stealing back livestock, you should search for the documentary if it interests you, the rebelion story leads to prison where they rebel against the treatment within there and they are either separated or originally established from different approach with the other resorting to more violence than the other

Basically (inombolo ewufafa le). If you tell this story to a real 26/27 they will stab you. He is probable telling it wrong on purpose or he was initiated (Thwasiswa) wrongly on purpose. Nongoloza was from Bergville and died in Mamelodi, his grave is there. Ngelekejane was from Eastern Cape. The other was Zulu & another Xhosa. Yes they used to do heists in the mines/trains learning from white guys who use to do this and they did it worse. Nongoloza pulled one of the greatest heist ever in Transvaal and he was caught years later in Durban. Apartheid government in North Transvaal had to employ Nongoloza as a security to tone him down. Ngelekejane & Nongoloza met in a jail in Durban & they ran operations outside. More dangerous inside than outside. These two leaders differed in two views, sex with other men and blood. Nongoloza died a poor man and buried by the state. Ngelekejane I think 5 years back he was still alive his last victim did not kill him instead removed his eyes as revenge, so he couldn't see. Our guy is a good story teller, but his ability to tell us a wrong story so confident and so bold there could be only two things involved he was not fully initiated (Remember you can be arrested for 10 years without being correctly initiated), meaning they gave him a wrong number or he is telling this story wrongly on purpose. Let me give you a clue in 1800 South Africa did not have jails. Shaka Zulu was assassinated in 1828 KwaDukuza. Gold Rush was in the late 1800's and was in it Peak probable in the 1960's. The were no railways or mines in 1800's.

Your uncle's nombolo was from 80's or 90's so this guy number is 00's so obviously won't be the same. 2) Depends on, which side of the country you at.
I have many questions than answers; 1. Which Mines were these gentlemen going to during 1800? 2. Was there a formal prison at the time? 3. Why are there so many versions of the same story? 4. There was a mention of a Star in the River, was that some magic moment? 5. How many bloody bodies would be required to chance an entire water from to red? 6. Let me not ask about the tree that flows blood.
