A friend linked me to this video. I am the person who created the account An_Eu_Ry_Sm. I did get a fire cape. I don’t remember any of this, I was playing this game 17 years ago. The account got hacked and that was the point where I quit playing. I don’t have much detail to add, this was such a distant memory, and I don’t remember the conversation happening in this video at all.

Back in 2007 doing barrows was the equivalent to doing raids and you were probably looked at as a god if you were consistently completing barrows runs.

It didn't help that the closest teleport was the Canifis ancient spellbook tele/mort myre fairy ring. You had two choices, burn ppots doing multiple runs before leaving, or get like 3kc an hour by leaving between runs.

Getting all the pigs in the pen reminds me of how I used to train thieving by getting *obsessively* good with the dragon spear special attack and making the entire Ardougne market barren except like one guard so I could steal from all the stalls. Cheered on by the fellow thieves, but jeered by lots of very confused players who were resorting to going into the buildings and killing them all so they could go back to training on them.

I remember when dag kings release me and a few friends wanted to try it so we put on our best mystic and rune armor. we navigated the dungeon to the kings room. then having no clue what we were doing we all ran in and crashed some people that were already there and some how they all died leaving barrows sets and obby sets which we managed to loot. it was quite the come up

When I first became a member back in like 2005-2006, I bought a granite maul and used that exclusively up until I could wear a 'd long'. After that, I went for the greatest weapon in the game - torag's hammers. I had it in my bank ready to go, I got 70 attack, tried to put it on, and... "you need 70 strength". I sold them and just walked around with an obby maul until I could eventually afford a whip (may or may not have begged my Mum to buy gp). Ahh, the memories.

God I played RS from 2005 to 2010 then got into OSRS about two years ago - this video brought back so many memories and really made me think about how inefficiently I used to play this game. Really hit home about how younger me was more interested in having fun rather than efficient skilling or money-making - wanting to become the next Old Nite or Zezima. I remember once being lucky enough to just catch a glimpse of Zezima and being awestruck. Me and a buddy of mine started making fake money-making guides and posting them to KZbin and Dailymotion where we would start off all serious and managed to make the guides look incredibly convincing. We got very good at it and our videos started to get very popular. The usual formula was to start with a professional looking introduction and step-by-step guide, however the last few steps would usually involve making players go to very dangerous areas or random places in the world where they would either die or get stuck. Reading all the salty comments was fucking hilarious. However someone from school found our channel and started spreading the word that we were behind it and eventually I pulled the videos down out of fear that my school mates would bash me up lmao.

I remember when I got membership for the first time and made friends with a dude at the dark wizards in Varrock. I was training combat and selling the runes (especially law runes) to the general store for gp. He told me to go rock crabs when I’m ‘stronger’. I followed him there from Camelot and camped there for days literally watching every hitsplat since I was worried to die. Till one day. A rich dude (black cavalier, cannon, gnome scarf and ranger boots) died in the corner of my eye because his cannon hit this level 48 fremmy guard and the first thing I saw was coins. I clicked the coins but couldn’t pick it up since my inventory was full with lobsters. I ate the lobster and clicked again. 32M cash, for the first time in my life I saw a green coin stack and when I realized that it was so much I cried. A few hours later I bought a black cavalier, flared trousers and a gnome scarf. Man I felt like I won the lottery.

I never managed to beat jad in 2007, but the karils + guthans helm & crystal bow was super common for fight caves from what I remember. almost everyone recommended you bring guthans to heal. i think the rationale behind keeping the guthans helmet on is not having to switch too much. people also used to frequently mix and match barrows sets in different situations, and it was considered good lol. veracs helm/skirt was also recommended armour for fight caves. my memory is that at the time, fury was an item that only rich high levels owned. people were less concerned about small stat differences so you ended up with what look like weird welfare-looking setups to the modern eye, but at the time no one really thought much of not having best in slot armour. “efficiency” didn’t become a major force in runescape until well after the max cape was released. (2012 approx.) i played consistently from 2007-2015 so I saw the cultural shift from playing-for-fun to playing-to-max first hand. i would suspect this also corresponded with the playerbase getting older; we all learned how to play “correctly” rather than just wandering around as stupid kids.

Funny thing about old youtube comments is that they never had a reply feature like they do now. The old system would be @username and the text would be a blue hyperlink with the comment right after. When the reply feature was introduced a few years later, all @usernames were removed from the comments, so they because straight up just comments without reference to who they're replying to.

Back then I spammed clan wars 24/7 thinking I was god at lvl 77. The only time I ventured away was in karamja just exploring and I discovered a black demon in there and sage safe spotted it with range thinking its drop almighty loot cause it was the craziest monster I had seen at that time.
