Come come we all know that the "collegium" is a sophisticated term for "subjective selection by a coterie" or in layman's term "nepotism" rather than going through a transparent, merit based, auditable selection system carried out by seasoned professionals in the field who check out various abilities (of the potential candidates to High court and Supreme court) including reasoning, political leanings, psychological assessment, specialised subject knowledge, basic arithmetic, etc.

Iyer ji, Indian judiciary sucks. I have an offer from a law college that if I pay Rs. 2 lakhs. I will be entered as a law student during the covid period and exams will be written by either me or someone and a law degree given. I can use it to enroll in the Bar council and start practicing. Also a law degree will help in doing settlements in police stations, property disputes. Money lending disputes, franchisee issues, rent collection, property evacuation, divorce settlements, sub contracting disputes, labour settlements, accident compensation, tragedy compensation, betting disputes, loan recovery, etc. If the person is enterprising he can recover his investment in less than one year. If 80% of the dispute resolution is happening outside the formal system then why do we need a judiciary. 🤔😎🤠

45 years is not a rule, it was a recommendation by the law commission that never became a rule. Usually judges are appointed after they are 45 only. But when a candidate is found to be exceptionally good age is not considered. There are several other examples of lawyers becoming judges before 45 years of age - justice PN Bhagwati, Justice YV Chandrachud, Justice Akhil Kureshi, Justice Deepak Gupta, Justice S Murlidhar, to name a few.

I think the system for selection of judges should be based in a constitutional panel comprising the PM, the leader of the opposition, the CJI, the CEC, the chairman of CoSC, CVC, the CAG etc. who should consider, solely on merit and past record, the names proposed to it by the government and the collegium. Checks and counter balances may be built into the system to minimize political interference, nepotism, and influence of vested interests.

Sir , In 2000 No minimum age limit was prescribed for appointment as Judge of the High Court in India . The minimum Age limit of 45 years was prescribed in the 80 th Report of the Law Commission , I presume later .

Kindly check if the brother or son of retired SC Judge Arjun Mishra, now Chairman of Human Rights Commission,who was in the Collegium at that time, was appointed as Judge of M.P High Court, before he had completed the minimum required 45years of age.

Topic of judicial appointments is filled with riddles. In Tamilnadu, there was a question of caste in appointment of judges and specifically one community (Brahmins) was questioned and in the same state, it is an open question on the meritocracy and even- handedness of appointments made to lower courts. A small hope on meritocracy in appointments to atleast the High Courts, has also dwindled. Added to political influence and corruption, public pressure through social media and media trials have also taken their toll and it is not easy being a judge even if appointed as one. If one is criticized by all, maybe he is just doing his job. There are a few with connections who are above all and the rule book thrown at ordinary people do not apply to them. Start judicial reforms through appointments - collegium has to go.

Threshold age of 45 has just been considered from consulting judges views for the recommendation on 23 Oct 2023 solely confined with task of the three judges and prevailing situations that persist during the appointment. Don’t think binding in other cases until and unless constitutionally fixed and implemented. What about reservations: Norms keep changing with every government. What about rest of the citizens other than reservation ? Some sections are poorer of the poorest. Request pl take real issues not issues out of no issues to propagate political mess of happenings.
