Good to see ya Andy. Love the old Dakota, reminds me of the 1986 D1500 w 318 my grandaddy had, took it to 280k miles and gave it to my stepdad who took her all the way to 456k miles, it needed a whole new air con system, AGAIN, and he was sick and couldn't get by without ac in the south so he traded her in on a 2001 Silverado with 2000 miles that I have up to 356k miles on that 5.3. Its slower than a dead horse but it never lets me down or doesn't crank.

I buy oil filters by the case. Never an excuse to not change the oil. Living on an island means I never need to go over 55mph, but I'm usually just cruising along at 35-45. I have been procrastinating fixing my suspension but after you pointed out the chain effect, I'm ordering parts today.

I bought an 87 v6 Dakota back in high school in 2012, I drove it till this year, put over 100k on it myself, it’s at about 175k. It started drinking coolant so I did the intake gasket… again… still consumed coolant, less if I kept it under 75, I’m thinking it’s the head gasket. I will get into it one of these days, I suppose I’ll treat it to a refresh of a few parts, I know one or 2 lifters are a bit tired, I had to make my own retainer spring for one that I found with the cap twisted sideways the first time I did the intake gaskets! This year I picked up a new used tundra, I paid over 10 times what I did for the Dakota for it!

My 1992 Chevy K2500 with the TBI 350 in it is sitting at 372,000 currently. Just keeps plugging along! I work it hard regularly as it’s my garbage/rock/bark/etc. hauler. Put some air bags on the rear several years ago to help out with the yard plus of rock im frequently hauling. Paint is slightly faded, not too bad. Interior is mint condition actually with exception of the headliner. It’s still good, but just unsticking from the foam board. Put several of the little screw style push pins in and she’s good to go for a while longer. Haha Front end is about ready for its second overhaul. All the bushings are getting weak. Probably push it off till spring.

The Dakotas are beast, my dad has a 2000 with the V8 magnum in it with 300 some thousand miles on it. Got beat to all get out, plowed into a telephone pole, hauled everything and anything and ran til she started to rust out and fuel pump went and has been sitting since. Love those trucks

I am laughing because I can SO relate to you! I drive a 1995 Dodge Ram B2500 Van with that same engine in it. She's got a few quirks, but I am ashamed to say, she doesn't have anywhere near that mileage on her yet. She was our "go to visitin' family" vehicle, and she's my "daily" ride now. But as a truck driver, the last thing I want to do when I get home, is drive very far. She just turned over 145,000 miles. She leaks about a qt of oil over the course of about 3 months, and I have to top off her tranny about every 6 to 9 months. I am its second owner. The first owner put 60K on it, and got rid of it. And until recently, she didn't have any real damage to her. My housemate forgot to look while backing up his vehicle, and put a wrinkle in the right rear. But all my upgraded led lights survived, 🤣

We had two 318s growing up. First was in a Dodge Aspen wagon from ‘77. It always had carbon buildup- but we learned how to take it apart. The next was a 1984ish “100” van. The van was amazing - it lasted forever and we drove it up and down the east coast and into Canada on vacation. The aspen unceremoniously died at 98,000 mile and threw a rod or something. Drove it home clack clack clack and it never started again.

Hey Andy good stuff. I bought a wood splitter recently to speed me up and still have all my 70 year old fingers. My 2 left handed thumbs haven't faired so well but practice makes less pain eventually. Tried crushing tins cans and then some other metal forming with the 50,000 pound beast and hey what fun. Use hardwood blocks for anvils when crushing metal. Try it out with your splitter and invent more useful things for us to view. Take care.

Disclaimer: I apologize for any grammatical errors in this post. I was in a state of deep contemplation and allowed my fingers to freely type, prioritizing the flow of my thoughts over perfect grammar. I love this video. let me take this time to talk up my father, who I lost 2 months ago. He had a lot of Acura's. Mainly the MDX. 01, 14, and a 16. The only one was his baby. Only an Acura dealer could touch his SUVs. the 01 was his baby. was stolen and recovered after about a year. Got it back. The paint was gone. something ate through most of the right side in some spots bare metal. never the less, he had his rules. all small things become big things, don't let them. over time, he started asking me to do work on it. also let me us it for out of town trips or to use while my car was in the shop. Every vehicle he owned, he made sure he had a remote start and a backup camera installed. if it didn't, he had it professionally installed. over time, it was a habit to give him a report on anything, and I mean anything that's that happened. Luckily, this is normal for me due to work DOT stuff. check the oil, tire pressure, using a torch wrench (just in case), what buld I replaced, which lead to switching everybuld but the dash to led. moving on, over time, he wasn't able to do the things he used too. I would change the rotors, breaks, and door switches. He bought new wheels for him and his wife's other MDX's a 14 and 16. they are both bodies styles. long story short, they ended up with matching MDX's in every way. You grow up thinking you have all this time, but you don't. One of the last things he said to me making sure his wife was there was, "I want Brandin to have the MDX" I replied. I don't remember what I said, but I know I dismissed like he'll be home soon like he always. I'm currently writing this in The MDX. I find it funny that we all know which one. He ended up putting his wife's wheels, which were brand new and Acura's 19's. I think the others were 16s or 17s. I still do all the things he did. I haven't full grasp it's mine. I hope your son enjoys his new to him ride.

I bought a brand new 1995 "heavy" half ton and, even though a crazy young dude took it for a legit Dukes of Hazzard jump on an elevated set of railroad tracks on a country road while moving everyone's vehicles to a new field of sugar beets, it has 386,000 on the clock. It only needs a rear wiring harness repair(which stretched to breaking point during attempt at take off) and a radiator (damaged when attempted take off failed and truck returned rapidly to the earth. I guess it must have 'stalled' due to insufficient lift.🤷♂️😏🇺🇸
