Somalia experienced an unprecedented famine and drought in 2011. At a time when no one in the world dared to go to Somalia for help due to civil war and terrorist organizations, Turkey mobilized for Somalia.
More interestingly, it was a Turkish leader who first stepped into Somalia, where no leader from outside Africa had visited for 22 years. Despite being warned about terrorist organizations, the then Prime Minister Erdoğan accompanied the first aid caravan to Somalia without even wearing a body armor, according to witnesses of the time.
So, did Turkey risk all dangers to exploit Somalia like other states? Or were the Turks there to lend a hand to the oppressed and the needy, as they have done throughout history?
