First, there is the achievement of "raining bullets" (win game without laser turrets), to which I want to keep a little more strict (bullets only, no laser/flamethrowers of any kind). Second, slow-firing, 20-40 damage personal laser defense (if invest into blue tech damage upgrades) is still not very good against a dozen 1500-3000hp behemoths.

Yeah, but he's got a speed concern here :p trying to do the achievements. Time and the lazy bastard means he can't just handcraft everything to save on polution and he can't wait too much for polution to dissipate between crafting because he's gotta launch in 16 hours.

I'd say for this series figuring out the right strategy / executing the opening phase was more difficult, whereas the invulnarable spawners is going to get more difficult once we start expanding the base

Two quetsions. Can´t use use the island on top. While sea squares absorb less, there is loads of them around. And.. why is there now permanets setup for the basics? (green circut, sprocket and other simular stuff). Also, i calculated a while back, if running on solar and batteries, Green modules are a better investment than more solar panels for almost everything. (not blue assemblers and for the 3rd modules it depends on the energy consumption)

yeah, green modules are crazy OP. Artificial islands with one-gap-biter-blocking-access is not my style. In this playthrough, I cannot build solar panels until after rocket launch because of achievements

Assemblers have been changed to have however many slots as required, so no more handcrafting needed. Now I just gotta not muscle-memory handcraft it!

I feel I missed an episode and I'm sure he explained it in that, but there's no achievement that forbids flamethrower turrets, so why take out the behemoths with red ammo? I mean it is cool for the challenge if it is for the challenge.

The achievement "Raining Bullets" was already part of the game before flamethrower turrets where added to the game. Hence, the "condition" for getting the achievement is "do not build any laser turrets", as that automatically meant the only leftover turret usable was the gun turret. With the addition of flamethrower turrets, they didn't change the achievement requirements, but as per the title of the achievement, it's obviously intended as "gun turrets only" instead of "no lasers but flamers are ok", so I intend to adhere to the original intent of the achievement. The other one with the same discrepancy is "Steam all the way" (condition no solar, thus polluting power only, and later clean nuclear power was added)

Give it a shot :) There's still lots of editing going on to speed up progress and "shift speach between the music bars", but I try to "hide it" more to keep that live-playing feel in this series. The main difference with the main series is that the voice-over is not scripted, recorded and edited in after the fact.

I'm guessing you're deliberately going with a somewhat "pacifist" theme, but a determined eradication campaign against any small expansion nest doesn't require much, slowdown/poison capsules being the really key tech. Deworm with poison capsules, slowdown the defenders, and they can't do diddly squat to protect the spawners from the car machine gun or handheld flamethrower. It's also notable that the"fire sticker" from the flamethrowers inflicts a base of 3000 damage over time, since a Behemoth Biter has 3000 hitpoints, a single splash leaves it at about 150 hitpoints from regen, but with a single flamethrower damage upgrade a single splash is a death sentence, making the handheld flamethrower ludicrously economical for destroying behemoth biters, at cost of roughly 0.25 iron and 1 oil per Behemoth Biter destroyed, somewhat cheaper than using bullets.

I wouldn't call my mindset pacifist, but I do want to keep to the achievement of "raining bullets" (win game without laser turrets), a little more strictly, as in the way it was originally designed to be (bullets only, no laser/flamethrowers of any kind)

The absolute minimum (without any expensive ammo) is about 320k copper and 400k iron IIRC. Plus usually extra resources (mostly iron) for building a normal base, I guess lol

@@MichaelHendriks i think you can actually do the challenge by making a map, figuring out the maximum output you can have below the pollution thresholds, and figuring out the maximum amount of time you can take for everything else, rationing free time basically If a certain segment goes over the free alloted time ITS OWER

I was curious if you've ever done any type of tutorial videos for certain set ups? The learning curve of this game going from mid to late game is pretty nuts, and I'm struggling on getting efficient and self-sustaining Kovarex enrichment and train terminals set up! You're my go to for anything Factorio related so I think it would be pretty cool if you talked about some of those things. Tips and tricks for planning out base set ups etc - also, RAIL SIGNALS - they frustrate me so!
