When it rains it turns out to be a difficult trek . When humans and horses walk on same route, mud becomes a disaster. I request to indiahikes and other trekking companies to avoid horses on this route. Pls use humans as porters , because if a horse become ill or injured, he is left to die there, it is not possible to carry it down or give treatment. We saw 3 horses dying during trek ,and few skeletons. The horses should not sacrifice their life for our pleasure.

That is a great point. It would be helpful if Indiahikes could talk about how they ensure the wellbeing of the animals that are used to transport supplies in a video. Caring for the environment requires also caring for the animals that we use and making sure that we don't abuse them.

If you have reasonable fitness (don't even need to run 5 km in 45 mins!), it's a pretty damn easy trek. I can assure you guys that. Other than slight headaches on days 1 and 2, I enjoyed every bit of my time there.

@@sigma_male_927 if you are planning for KGL than you must go atleast after mid July upto ending August because there is a lot of uncertainty in the weather pattern. So if you are planning you must start it very early in the morning from sitkadi base camp not from sonamarg market. You must have done all the preparations before that night so that it will be easy for you to start your journey early in the morning. If you will provide me your contact i will give you all the details what to do and what not to do. I am local guy who know this Trek very well

Reason it that it receives a huge amount of snowfall in winters and temperature drops below minus 30 degrees
@Indiahikes2 жыл бұрын
Hi Aashi, We usually stop The Kashmir Great Lakes trek after the second week of September as it turns colder and the chances of snowfall increase. And when it snows in Kashmir, it isn’t like the snow we see in Uttarakhand or lower parts of Himachal. Whole buildings get buried in these regions of Kashmir where we trek. It takes from January until July to melt away. That’s why we cannot trek in these regions of Kashmir. Gulmarg, though, is open for skiing and things in Dec and January. Even several parts of Jammu are accessible and beautiful. Those are places you can explore in winter.

How difficult this trek is, as compared to Nepal's Everest / Annapurna base camp trek? I am 59 yo, is it okay if I prepare with brisk walking for 4 hours a day for 6 weeks?
@Indiahikes2 жыл бұрын
Hi Anoushka, More than 4 hours a day, we would recommend checking the distance that you cover. If you can cover a distance of 5 km in 32 minutes in a jog, that will be ideal for a trek like KGL. It isn’t as difficult as the EBC trek in terms of altitudes gained, but it brings in other challenges, since you don’t have the comfort of tea houses like you do in Nepal. The trail is also not paved, and a lot of it is rocky and bouldery. So you will need to have nimble feet. Having said that, if you can cover a distance of 5 km in 32 minutes, and can do this consistently 5 days a week, you’ll be able to trek comfortably.

I think its very stupid to trek for seven lakes in one go. Should cover only two lakes per year at least keep rest of experience for next time. 3 to 4 days r enough. U r wrong about rainfall in Kashmir. Weather is very unpredictable. It can b heavy rains anytime b it June or July.spending 8 days in bad weather is not good idea. Its not upsc syllabus that u need to cover whole in 7 days its all about enjoying the trek experience.

@Indiahikes2 жыл бұрын
Hi Prachi, Kashmir Great Lakes is a lot tougher than the Tarsar Marsar trek. It involves crossing three mountain passes, long distances every day, and a longer duration of being in the wilderness. Tarsar Marsar is the easier sister trek of Kashmir Great Lakes. The trekking days are short and friendly, and you have long leisure time at the campsites. So the trek is very beginner-friendly.
