BCBS basic plans also provide for international care through geo-blue. So you can travel abroad to many different countries and get covered healthcare services. They will even advise you of preferred providers in that particular area that you are traveling to.

My young friend in work said he never gets sick, so didn't have any care. Then he got sick and went to hospital for a week, guess what he signed up for a plan after that.

I gladly pay for BCBS Standard. It does cost A LOT, but it works anywhere in the country.

Blue Cross / Blue Shield reimburse medical expenses overseas. Just get a itemized invoice with medical coding if possible, dates of services, locations, phone numbers, staff members and receipts of payments.

Be careful if you go cheaper and you get sick.

One thing you need to look out for is in-patient costs, and hospital costs. If your invulnerable you don't need to worry. A lot of those plans kill you on co--pays when you step into a hospital.

I currently have Kaiser. I love it. I dont think there is a cheaper plan (Kaiser does.most of their own services in house.) I am going to be forced to change when i retire. I will probably go w bc/bs when i retire since i plan to move. If i retire 31 dec should i change my plan in the Open Season closest to my exit date or should i change a yr ahead to lower the risk of hiccups. I cant imagine this being smooth.

Not only can you end up paying more with Blue Cross but some of what you're paying is pure profit whereas GEHA is not for profit. If you don't absolutely need the vast network of Blue Cross, there are many better, more affordable, yet comparable, plans available. Some plans like GEHA also include an annual vision exam, for example, making it possible to possibly forego separate vision coverage depending on your needs.

I'm having a terrible experience with BCBS customer service related to explaining and/or correcting a series of claims from pregnancy complications. We've been dealing with it for almost a year. Many calls and many hours burned. They *finally* assigned us a supervisor who's been updating us. Still not resolved. Other companies are sounding better and better

If you get Medicare A and B along with FEHB BCBS basic - does that cover your deductibles, co-payments and coinsurance?

I can only tell you what I have & how it’s working for me. Husband retired age 59 from Fed. He has family plan with BC/BS. Over 500.00 taken out of pension for medical. I went on BC/BS Medicare last year and pay 174.00 for Medicare. Have been in & out of hospital over six months. Numerous tests, X-rays,etc..& if I payed 100.00 out of pocket it’s a lot. Even taking ambulance was only 100.00. Very satisfied with them, but we do pay a lot. No co payments for drs.

If you want to play russian rollette go cheap on FEHB if you can't afford a good plan cut expenses another way.

"play russian roulette" is a terrible metaphor to choose when talking about health care. Simply say "gamble". I get what you meant, but still.
