How do Children go into Foster Care? Have you ever wondered how children enter the foster care system? What are the reasons? What is the process? Can anyone call an anonymous referral? What happens to the referral after it is called in?
I'll answer your questions and give you some reassurance about the process as it was meant to be. You can also read this blog post on the same topic: www.kristenadk...

Thank you for this. A friend we have just met had her child removed last week. I have no clue how the process works. This case probably involves drugs and the boyfriend. ☹️ We are praying she does everything the court says so she can get her baby girl back. ❤

Yes. The kids should return after the case plan has been completed and the kids are safe to return.

Hello, my name is dale and I'm 14 years old. recently school has been tough for me, I've found myself getting less and less sleep to the point of not even being able to get up in the morning. But lately my sister has also been going through some things. So this lady came in, and straight up told me to my face "if you don't go to school they're gonna put you in a foster home" and she was dead serious. Like this could happen any week from now and I'm really scared, I'm always fighting with my parents and I don't know why. I don't wanna leave but I don't wanna stay. I've recently been taken off my sleep and depression medication because it wasn't helping a ton. So know I'm off meds, scared and confused. I'm just looking for a solution.

FC, If you are not attending school regularly, you can have some consequences. I'm not sure foster care would be the first option. Don't be fearful about foster care; often you can explain what is going on in the home and the reasons you don't attend school. I would also see your physician regarding the medication issues. You can also talk with your school counselor for getting help.

That would depend on your state and worker. Also, it depends on the interview process and what you disclose. I do think things are not ideal, for sure. I would not contact the 27-year-old guy again.

Question, are foster children placed in like a big place where employees take care of them? If so, why do they adopt these children or send them to different homes, why not like improve their services and care for these children? I’m honestly asking this question because I find it wrong that single parents get to adopt children and then raise them as either fatherless or motherless when they can sit be taken care of by many male and female employees who should be their role model. I find it like a downgrade in parenting if you get what I mean.

I think you are speaking of a group home. Many children do well in a home as you describe, but the goal of child welfare is to get them adopted to a family. The services should be improved regardless. Some of them are not up to standards of 'normal' living; however, these facilities may be better than the child was living in the first place. I like your perspective for some children do well with fresh staff and a dorm-like environment. But, when they turn 18, they have no one to call their family except perhaps, the other children in the home. They have no one to go 'home' to after they "age out" of foster care. I hope this answers your comment/question. Thank you for being involved with my channel. Share away. Have a blessed day.

My grandkids were in a group home at ages 6 & 9, and found it devastating. They were eventually placed with me. It was much healthier for them to be with a family member in a family home environment. I adopted them, so they had the security of knowing where they would grow up.The fact that I am single was not detrimental for their mental and emotional health and development. But being in an institution with adults and other kids constantly moving in and out was very damaging.

Oh my goodness. I wish I would have seen this sooner. You’ll need to go to your school counselor or social worker and disclose your reasons for needing a foster care placement. You’ll explain to them, or even a teacher, what you’re going through. They must make a referral to the Department of Human services or Child protective services. The social workers from there will handle the case.

Just now seeing this. Are you in foster care now? If not that’s the first step. Later your parents have rights terminated and you’ll be put up for adoption. It’s very hard to get adopted at 14 though. You should be aware of that.

I’m 17 and will be placed in foster care soon. I want to know what the process is like from going to dhs and explaining your situation to ending up in a foster home, like i want to know what to expect and how long it takes for you to be in the state’s custody, etc. :)

From DHS, they will determine if you are safe at home. Then they will decide if suitable family members could keep you. If so, you can live with them; foster care will be the next option. They should match you with a family who is looking to host teens. At that time, it depends on how long your parents will take to correct whatever was going on to get you removed. So they make a case plan for the parents to follow. If they follow that and do it quickly, you should be able to go home. If they do not finish the case plan, you must stay in foster care until that is complete. And, being 17, you may get an extension past 18 if you're in school or sign yourself back in so you can go to college. The DHS should have some answers more specific to your case. I hope this help. I'm praying it will be a short stay and that everything will go well for you.

@@impressingminds Hello, do you have a social media or an email I could talk to you with. I am in need of immediate refuge/place to stay soon and I think you can give me some tips or since you’re in the field. I wouldn’t want to just state the discussion in a public comment section so I thought contacted you would be a better idea if you don’t mind. Thank you so much in advance.
