Great video! Here are my notes of her presentation. 1. Speak from the Diaphragm -Drink water 2. Finish the end of the words -practice by using number -practice pronouncing multisyllabic words by reading newspapers like the New York Times 3. Use strategic pausing -at a PERIOD: pause wait 1, 2, 3 seconds -the way we highlight a word is to use pausing (and tonality) 4. No Ums -No more than 2 speech fillers everyone 2 minutes (speech fillers are: Um, So, Like, You know, So, and Actually ) -Record yourself, notice your pattern of speech (most people say: I’m, UM, John Doe) -Pause instead of using a filler word 5. Own your space (this part of the video was cut short, but the idea is to talk to everyone and not just one person) 6. On the phone -Do not take cut shorts when giving out your phone number 0-0-9-7.) -Do not use “oh’ for 0, use ZERO Big Take Away: HOW we say something matters TWICE as much compared to WHAT we say

I think context is important. If you're giving a presentation being soft spoken might not be the best, especially if you're in corporate. But talking to people in general it can be very comforting hearing someone being soft spoken. And for the dating space I don't think I'd be wrong to assume most men would prefer a women more soft spoken than someone who's speaking in a powerful tone. Not to say its inherently bad, it goes back to the comforting feeling, it's preferable.

Important Clippings: - People who use strong, powerful voices exude self-confidence and volume exudes confidence. It is all about vocal projection, not screaming. It all starts with the diaphragm; this is our power source. How do we make sound? (1) We bring this power up, and (2) moves our vocal cords. - Exercise 1: Sit up tall, take a breath and breath in through your nose. Inhale for the count of 3 and exhale for the count of 5, through your nose. This is also step one of relaxation, just breathe. Exercise 2: Take a breath in and count to 10 on your exhalation. Next to 15 and 20 seconds - Tips when going for a presentation or an interview: - Power up from the diaphragm - Bring water, because: 1.Anxiety will give you cough, which will give you more anxiety 2.When somebody asks you a question. Pause and think. - Exercise 3: Stand up, take a breath, and say A (capital letter A) as long as possible. - For accent reduction, one very common error is that we tend to swallow the ends of words and swallowing entire syllables. Tedious drills are the building blocks that get you to your goal, to get to strong, confident communication. Use strategic pausing, to put emphasis on your message. - When you speak your highlighter is your tone, it shows the vocal variety and the pausing. How we say something matters twice as much as what we say. - Uhm, uh, like, you know, so, actually; these are filler words, any word which is not content rich and not adding. Not more than two in two minutes! - To Do: 1.Record yourself 2.Notice your pattern 3.Anticipation 4.Use the power of the pause, don't use filler words - Other tips: 1.Own your space. Numbers you want to chunk. 2.Don’t take shortcuts 3.Remember it is a global marketplace 4.Respect the listener
