I bought a used 2002 Classic 30 about 15 years ago and have struggled with it ever since trying to get the sound i wanted. Clean channel was okay with my strat but the drive channel always seemed way too muddy with anything with humbuckers (LP, SG, etc). I always hear players raving about their C30's but I figured I just had a lemon. Just this week Ive been contemplating selling it. BUT WAIT!!! You have your mid at 12? I never tried that. I stopped this vid half way through and plugged in... matched your settings and... HOLY CRAP!!!! I never heard it GROWL like that before!!! You just saved my amp. Forever in your debt. BTW, awesome playing my friend. Night Prowler is #1.

@@AndyDoveGuitar Something that I missed at first is that you're playing a Les Paul thru tube screamer type pedals at times, with the mids all the way up on the amp... Unreal. I would have thought that it wouldn't sound so full with everything rather directed toward the mids, but it sounds epic! I am going to have to rethink my pedal board once I get one of these amps for myself!

@@christopherburnett1745 thanks Christopher, yeah I know on paper it does sound crazy, but in reality with this set up it's killer! I honestly do that with most Amps I own, just the way I've always done it, amazing how responsive those settings are on this amp tho, can't recommend them enough, you'll be surprised how well that works! And yeah I just use a tube screamer type pedal here and there when I want more gain/sustain, but I try to keep it as subtle as I can, more a volume boost then adding tonnes of gain. Yup that is that Peavy sound. I have both the 50watt 2x12 and that 30 watt version. 7:58 - The boost function on this amp is very useful when playing with a band. It boosts the midrange of your tone so that when you play at band volume with other instruments the guitar comes through better. This helps avoid the painful high end that comes from simply cranking the volume.

High Andy ! Neither I can recommend Peavey Classic amp line highly enough! Personally I have two Classic 50 212 from the early -90's ( with loop ) which I love deeply , and that bring a BIG smile on my face everytime I use them. Cleans are glorious, and when you hit the lead channel, you are just blown away by the massive roar a'la classic rock on steroids. This is helped quite a bit by 1) putting an EQ pedal in the loop with "bath tub shaped curve" on the low end side only, and 2) extension cabinet hooked up in parallell ( 212 or 115 Celestion Fullback, ending up in 2*212 or 212+115) After having bought my 1st , black one , early last autumn (via Reverb from Sicily, since non for sale in Sweden by the time ) I realized after a month or so that both my Marshall DSL40C and my JMP 2204 -80 412-rig had been totally unused , and a month after that were still so, so I sold both of them. Non of them were able to give the same thrill and joy as the Peavey does.... What totally sold me for those marvellous amps were: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fmaXk2yafbWNjNE at 0:53..... kzbin.info/www/bejne/aKSqmqWYeb6toLc Cheers, Magnus, Gothenburg

I have had a C30 I bought back in 2003 that has been used for dozens of gigs, rehearsals and jams...it has NEVER let me down. In my case I like using the 'boost' feature as it cuts back a bit on the mids but slightly increases the overall volume and overdrive. I swapped out the Blue Marvel for a Vin 30 within weeks of getting it and have found with pedals it will cover just about anything you'd want...from clean to crunch to hard rock. I usually will stack an OD with a Distortion pedal and have gotten all kinds of compliments on what this little 1x12 beast can do. Great demo! Thanks!
@marktullo35 Жыл бұрын
@@jdmarti100 Actually I will mostly use the OD channel with the pedals, but the beauty is you can still back everything down if you want, including backing off the guitar volume. It's great using the pedals on the clean channel as well, of course. I just prefer a little more OD because of the classic Hard rock I normally play, but as I've said and the video demo indicates it covers just about everything.

I used half stacks and modelers for years but noting comes close to the feel and tone of the Classic 30. Bear mind that I have been playing since 1969 and the amount of distortion I go for is not the same as younger players. Much more blues/ rock sound. If you look real close, you'll see that the knobs all go to 12. Right across the board. These go not just one louder, but two louder! Had a Classic 50 for years, got a Classic 30 and sold the 50. Best tone ever between those two amps, but I think the 30 has the edge on tone due to the earlier breakup. I sold the 50 because it's a big, heavy, loud amp, which is something that isn't really necessary any more. 30 watts is plenty for just about any stage, especially now with modern monitoring systems. I sorta maybe miss my Classic 50, but only because I had it for so long...the 30 pretty much fills the void, and it's almost the same vintage (2003, US made). Has pretty much the same vibe to it, almost the same sound, and a LOT easier to tote around. I personally love the tone of these amps, the preamp overdrive is thick and gooey and not fizzy, which is very unusual. It's like they found a way to make preamp overdrive to more closely mimic power stage overdrive. And the clean channel is nice and punchy and compressed. It's especially good with an SSS Strat due to the thick midrange and compression. Not sure it's my favorite HB amp, but it is definitely my favorite strat amp by miles and miles, and I'm primarily a strat player any more. And they sound good at low volume. And they have one of the better effects loops I've encountered with no noticeable difference in volume or tone when pedals are inserted in the loop, unlike the 2 DSL Marshalls I've owned, both of which had noticeable signal degradation when using their effects loops.

@@AndyDoveGuitar Peavey made some great amplifiers for sure.
@bruceniblett9594 жыл бұрын
Nice demo. Peavey came out of a cave in the 1980s and started offering some cool gear. It started with the butcher, the triumph 60, vtm series, bravo, and 5150 which was a great metal amp for anyone EXCEPT Eddie (he needed a Marshall). But then the classic came out. I got one immediately. In the beginning they had no effects loop. But it sounded excellent micd. I don't use distortion pedals but a DOD bifet preamp through the loop will give you a great clean boost on the crunch channel. Those pedals are under rated and I bought mine NOS. Really thru the loop one of the coolest clean boost pedals.
@AndyDoveGuitar4 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Bruce, yeah I've always admired this range, I wonder how many people don't give it any attention and dismiss Peavey off as only a metal high gain amp builder! I used to own a 6505+ great high gain amp, but yeah I agree on the Marshall comment, those early EVH albums with the cranked plexis are just magical! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment 😁🎸🤘

Awesome video! Great playing... I've got a Peavey Delta Blues, which despite its 15'' speaker and the built-in tremolo, has the same features of the C30. Love the tone of those amps, Peavey did a great job. They sounds good both with humbuckers as well as single coils. I play my DB through a Fender Strat and the tone is so nice. Thanks for the settings hint, I'll use that. Rock On!
@AndyDoveGuitar4 жыл бұрын
Thanks ever so much for watching, yeah I've been curious about the Delta Blues with the 15 inch speaker, I'll have to get round to A/B ing one against my trusty Classic 30. Totally agree with you there, sounds ace with single coils and humbuckers, such a fantastic all rounder amp, and built to last too! Glad I can help with the settings, I literally never change them from there, that's the sweet spot for me! 🤘 🎸

I enjoy my Peavey Delta Blues, which is simply a Classic 30 with tremolo and a 15-inch speaker. I generally play clean-ish, with an equalizer in the effects loop and an attenuator in line with the speaker so that I can get proper power-tube distortion on-demand. I've been experimenting with a compressor between its input and the guitar; the jury is still out on that. With the equalizer, tube-rolling is moot because any tonal change caused by changing tubes can be compensated with the equalizer, and then some. I've never been let down by using Peavey amplifiers.

Back about 10 years ago I bought a Peavey 115E equipped with the original Eminence 15" as an extension cab for my 1994 C30. Worked like a charm for adding lots of bottom end until I swapped the original speaker in the C30 out for that Celestion Relic 30. Now the 115E is dedicated to a full stack Peavey topped by a Classic 50 head and a Peavey Classic 410E cab, equipped with blue frame alnico speakers.

Not directly into the subject, but I love the yellowed aged binding on the Les Paul Custom. Thank God, I finally bought one (it was my dream guitar) and I'm playing it everyday and keeping outside the case to go from original white binding to yellow.

Thanks so much, yeah I'm totally with you on that, the aged binding just really gives it a classic look. When I was hunting a custom down I made sure I waited to get the right one, took forever, but this is a 1993 57 reissue, absolutely love it, really nicely worn in too, playing through the finish on the back of the neck in places now. When you find the right one they really are dream guitars! 🤘 🎸 🎶

I just picked one up. Blue Marvel Speaker is just fine for me. I have a marshall head, too. They sound similar and not at all. To me anyway. It can sound like the rolling stone to the pistols to faces. I like the gain on the amp, too. I never know how im going to like something until its in my house. For some reason probably built in acoustics, but they don't always sound the same at the house. But this one is a keeper.

I used to turn my nose up at Peavey, until I heard one of the classic 30's. I just added the 112-E extension cabinet. If I had a gripe about the classic 30 it's that it runs hot. The tubes are under the circuit board so the heat rises up to the control panel and it gets hot. Not burn yourself hot, but it gets your attention.. I run a small fan behind it.

Picked up an old Classic 30 from the 90's a couple of weeks ago. Yes, great little amp! I decided to add an EQ pedal in the loop, as I find it a bit dark for my taste, punch up the upper-mids a bit for some cut and brightness. Kills my Blues Jr- which is now for sale!!

Get a Bugera PS-1 power attenuator, and you can get those tones at bedroom volume. You plug the speaker output into the PS-1, then plug the speaker into the PS-1, so you can still drive the amp to get the sounds you want, but use the Power Soak to reduce the power going to the speaker. They're pretty inexpensive, too, usually under $120.
