Would WD-40 be suitable for lubricating plastic gears? How do you clean off old and sticky grease from plastic gears?

1. No. Wd40 dry quick and too thin. 2. You can use degreaser

Recently put metal gears in the milling machine, and was wondering about lubing the gears.

Gears should definitely be properly lubricated when in use to extend longevity. You should check the manufacturers documentation to see if there is any particular recommended method.

@@AndyMark there is, and spaying white lithium grease on a yearly basis doesn’t seem good enough.

Why is the grease red? I have a toy robot but instead of greeasing the gearbox, I wash all the grease off and it still works properly. Looks like it doesn't need grease. Why would the toy factory put grease inside of the toy robot's gearbox if it doesn't need grease? There is no need for grease in my toy robot's gearboxes!
