Switched to homeschooling this year because covid gave me the opportunity to try. Now...total convert. We are not going back to brick and mortar school. Here in B.C. the education system has not been beneficial to my children at all! What has been beneficial is the relationship we have started to grow and tailoring curriculum to each child’s needs. What a privilege!

I love this soooo much. I have homeschooled for over 6 years and I still feel insecure. My sister-in-law told me, "As a homeschool mom, my call is to raise children with a strong foundation in Christ. Teaching just goes along with it." Love our kids, play games with our kids, teach them about Christ, read to them, and pray, and it will be ok!

It will be better than OK, you and your kids will be grateful, and you will have no regrets in the future...I did it When it wasn’t as popular and I’d do it again in a heartbeat, I really miss that time and so do my kids. They always tell me they wish they could go back to those days.

How will they get a job? What if one of your kids wanted to be a doctor, or a teacher? They will never be able to
@HealthyHousewife2 жыл бұрын
@@indy2316 oh sweetheart, if you do the research colleges LOVE homeschool kids. They have much more respect and know how to get work done independently. Not only that, but homeschooling has gone through the roof after COVID. Parents are pulling kiddos left and right because of what is going on in schools. We homeschool families must be doing something right. And, as a Christian, I felt called to do so. If this is where God wants our family, He will bless it.

@@HealthyHousewife But the women in the video wanted to become a teacher and she wasnt able becuase she was homeschooled.
@HealthyHousewife2 жыл бұрын
@@indy2316 her being homeschooled has absolutely nothing to do with it. Being a homeschooled kiddo means if you have a passion then the parent can gear your education toward that passion. We go through high school credits just like any other child and they cannot get their diploma unless they have completed those credits. I guarantee you there are doctors who have been homeschooled and teachers who have been homeschooled. You don't become a doctor or a teacher based on the high school you went to, you become a doctor or a teacher based on the college you go to and the major you choose. And homeschool kiddos attend college just like everybody else.

After reading your article I went on your website and I'm so captivated by everything I'm seeing. I had a breakdown and just questioning what am I doing with homeschooling my daughter. You touched base on so much that I have in my heart. Thank you🙏🏻

i'm not a mom, not even close to having kids of my own, i'm just really passionate about learning and as much as i loved my school experience in tradicional school, i always feel this kinda of sad feeling when i remember that 1- i didn't have the opportunity to go deeper in subjects that i really like because my teacher had a curriculum to fulfill during the year, 2- i HAD to learn subjects that didn't came easy to me in a certain way because, again, my teacher had to fulfill a curriculum and could not slow the pace for one single student. after growing, resarching, and figuring out on my own and with professionals what works for me when it comes to learning, and talking to friends that felt the same way about school, i feel that tradicional school has a lot to learn from homeschooling nowadays. specialty when we talk about kids from 4-14. really loved the video, looking forward to more of them. xo

I am a new homeschooling momma. I absolutely love the freedom of it (I get that, unfortunatly, that sometimes get determined by state standards/homeschooling laws) and I cannot imagine going back to such rigid scheduling. In order for our family to take a vacation we had to not only put in for that time at my husbans work but also "request" said vacation and have it approved by the school for four children. We are now expecting baby 5 (first girl) and the ease with which scheduling comes for our family now, its a HUGE difference. The single biggest difference however was being able to take this past year "off" and do nothing but review with my four boys. I needed to know where they were at for them. Not for the state, not for the school system, for THEM. Because that alone has helped me learn where they are, what they need help with, what kind of learner they are, and where they are strongest. The "unschooling" for me was probably more diffucult. What the public school system does to parents is just sad. I had to really step back and look at myself and realize that trying to mimic school at home was hurting them and myself and keeping me from truly homeschooling. Also, I found that so many different people homeschool. It is a vast over stereotyped trope that only religious families do it. I have seen and hugely wide variety of homes, homeschool their children. It is refreshing. THank you so very much for this video. I completely understand your "Angst" in the video because even after only a year of "Defending" myself to people with pre-conceived notions about homeschooling, it is so tiring and frustrating, I can't imagine having to have done that for years. I'm sure I will learn how, but now I have this video for reference!

How much did WE retain when we went to school? Probably only the stuff we really NEEDED to know, like reading and writing and math. Those are the things we really need to focus on “academically”. Other than that, to me it’s the stuff our kids are gifted in and interested in, because most likely, that will be what they do for a career some day. That, and character and knowing God!!!!

Thank you I needed to hear this! We started homeschooling this year only because of covid and I was so worried because we have been told over and over our daughter was advanced in reading and math and everything else was right at grade level, but when we started homeschooling her grammer was so behind, and she couldn't creatively think problems out she had been relying on her peers, and she didn't take risks in her education or have opinions. What troubled me the most was she was so used to her teachers telling her what to do and when to do it that she didn't even know how to learn or what interested her because she was just going through life coping everyone else. We don't plan to go back into the public school system atleast not for a few more years maybe highschool depending on what she want to do.

Preach it!!! 🙌🏻 none of the education “guidelines” are beneficial for our children!! Testing fails our kids. It’s artificial. And it actually hinders their learning. We are the ones who decide if it’s enough! It’s about relationship, and their love to learn. And most important their relationship with Jesus!!

Thanks for this video. I am a first time homeschooling mom of a 5th and 2nd grader. Then have one starting kindergarten in September when baby #4 is due. I've been already feeling overwhelmed at the thought of it all and thinking if I should put them back into school. Along with the uncertainty of covid which I am not scared of at all my decision to homeschool was more based on my 2nd grader not grasping the remote learning as much and not wanting them in the ungodly system with their teachers teaching them about yoga and new age stuff instead of actual things they should be. Add the stress of masks and more possible vaccine requirements it was just time to get out. I prayed about it and realized it's just the devil trying to get in my ear because yes; why do I feel like I need to meet the world system's requirements? I need to meet my children right where they are and not put the stresses of the world on to them. I want them to learn, grasp it, have fun while they do it and not have to rush to meet requirements for school to get funding. God continues to give me reassurance as well as my hubby but, thanks from another momma for reminding me about that made up bar. I will continue to meet them where they are and not stress it. It's our job anyway to teach our babies and help them grow. God bless you all.😘

I agree with a lot expressed here and don't think it matters so much what order things are taught but I think a lot of people asking this question about curriculum are more concerned with the progression of foundational skills like reading and writing. The thing about that is that the answer is different for every child so parents need to figure that out for each of their children and use whatever tools that child needs. There is no one curriculum that will guarantee success for all students in my experience.

Thank you so much for this. When starting off homeschooling, we were very structured. Structure wasn't working for us. My kids were not engaged and they did not look forward to homeschooling. We are more laid back in our approach to learning now. And I have to say, they are retaining more information now than ever before, especially when we touch upon topics that interest them. I was worried if what we were doing was enough. Sometimes I get emotional because I'm afraid that I'm either failing my kids or doing them a disservice by pulling them out of public school. Im grateful for your advice and the advice of other homeschool veterans who tell me that what we do is absolutely enough.

Thank you! I needed EXACTLY this today! I'm a first year homeschooling mom. I never thought I would homeschool because my 9yo son never wants to hear anything I say and definitely listens better to a teacher than to me. With Covid, I knew that trying to get him to do online school from home would be a nightmare. Add in my 4yo daughter and it would be impossible. Their nicknames are "chaos" and "pandemonium." While I know that doing it our own way is definitely better, it has been such a struggle. I would love to talk about "that kid that is always like that" you mentioned, because boy is he it! We've decided that we will to continue to homeschool and I was already fussing about next years curriculum choices because I didn't feel like we were doing enough. I've been watching curriculum pick videos to get ideas and the number of books people pull out made me feel completely overwhelmed. This video has taken a huge weight off me and given me much to digest.

I am a new homeschool mom to 3 kiddos this year (1st, 3rd, 7th). I have found this year very challenging with how to best use my time and split my time between all my children. I have watched many youtube moms and most of the time I feel like I am not doing enough. I also struggle with your view point (tho I don't think you are wrong) and I think that comes from attending Catholic schools from K-12 and pushing myself to my limits to do well so that I could attend college and have a career. I did graduate with both a BS in nutrition and a MS in public health which I had to pay for on my own working 30 hours a week and keeping up a 4.0. I think this is why I feel I cannot subscribe to a more relaxed approach- its likely my own brainwashing as a kid that the only way you get anywhere in life is to study nonstop. Do you feel that maybe you are able to have this viewpoint because I believe in an earlier video I watched you said you knew you always wanted to be a mom and homeschool- not sure if college was not on your radar? Here in CT the cost of living is one of the highest in the United States and without being highly competitive in schooling it would be difficult to survive at a minimum wage job. I have been home with my kids for the last 8 years leaving a very high paying hospital job but have always had to have a side gig waitressing at higher end restaurants to make ends meet and we definitely live within our means- there are lots of our peers that do not! How do you feel your approach may change as your children enter high school? I am trying to be more relaxed with my younger two as I have a 3rd grader who struggles greatly with math but my soon to be 8th grader I feel I need to push- he is lazy otherwise and I fear for his future. Any suggestions? Thank you for taking the time to make these videos.

Wow! Very good point! Also, the world says that "how much we know" and "how smart we are" is what matters most. While God says its CHARACTER that matters most, and loving and being there for our children.

What a great video. I wish that I lived in a state with less rules about what we have to teach here in New York. I feel like so much time is wasted trying to force certain topics on my daughter. It’s hard when I know that she is bored to tears with what we are doing, but I have no choice. Of course I try to teach things that she is interested in but it’s not easy fitting it all in. I’m going to watch this video again, as I think there are so many great lessons for me here.

Totally agree with every single word you say. School system is broken. I feel bad for the parents who can't homeschool for one reason or another. Because not everyone can. I'm grateful I can. And my 6 yr old is already doing things that you're not supposed to learn until 2nd grade. She'd be learning things she learned when she was 4, in kindergarten right now. No thanks.

Couldn't have said it better myself! Standardized "education" is simply holding children back from reaching their full potential in who God created them to be.
