The Indianapolis Colts officially have their hands full, as the Houston Texans have acquired Stefon Diggs in a trade that seemingly makes them the favorites for the AFC South. The question now becomes - where exactly do the Colts go from here? Should it change Chris Ballard’s approach, or is the combo of Shane Steichen and Anthony Richardson enough to keep the Colts far closer than we think. Well, the answer (as always), is not as simple as you may think. Lets talk about it!

The issue now for opposing defenses is...who do you double team? Collins? Tank? Digs? Schultz? Then, what do you do with Mixon coming out of the backfield? Would not want to be a DC on the Texans' schedule.

Texan's fan here. I really like the friendly but intense rivalry between us and the Colts. I remember you assholes when you had Peyton Manning and just beat us every year for years, but I loved watching Peyton do his thing. It was and is like a hate, respect thing. Every time we start to climb, you guys get better. It takes a season or two, but then who are we fighting for the title, Colts. It's a blast to enjoy this. I'm old and remember the Oilers/Steelers rivalry, it was one of the best in NFL history. Whoever won the AFC title between the Steelers and the Oilers, was going to win the superbowl. I hope to see our rivalry match that, it's close already.

Texans fan here. I gotta say I been telling our side, that while we should hype with the additions we have made in the offseason, we gotta stay humble. That last game our teams played could have easily been a Colts win had it not been for a dropped pass. Lol the squad looks good on paper but it still has to translate on the field. That being said, provided he can stay healthy, I think the CJ Stroud vs Anthony Richardson battles to come are going to be epic. May the best team win boys 🤘🏼🐂

BTW if you get bored and want to check it out, there is a good video on KZbin that is a collection of news stories as told in Baltimore when the Colts moved to Indy. I was at the first ever game in the Hoosier Dome. I have no idea if those were the real celebrities or imposters, but the organization trotted out Michael Jackson, Mr. T and Kenny Rogers. Knowing the old man, they were probably celebrity impersonators. We had seats in the endzone and I was able to catch a FG during warmups. Fun times. If was weird seeing fans learning how to be fans of an NFL game. The Colts would make a play and people would sit and clap. And of course you can't go to an 80's sporting event and not have the wave. That was the funny thing about the early days of the Indianapolis Colts. The fans didn't care what the score was -- we were going to get the wave going.

Not only is he versatile, but his leadership, work ethic, and talent makes him one of the most dangerous TE. Plus he is versatile in the sense that he can play WR and RB. I don't think people disagree with your take on Jaylon Jones. He's an awesome up and coming player but the issue is if Juju or Jones goes down we have a problem. Why not finally get an elite Cb1 in the first round something the Colts haven't done in years. The player everyone wanted went to the Titans. You need a 1 at corner and receiver unless your qb is that elite to cover up those holes. It's ok to see the game the way you want to but if it's not resulting into wins than.......how many years of losing does it take for Ballard to say hey...my way just isn't working

Texans fan for life here y’all. I’ve waited for a coach to come in do something like what Demeco Ryans is doing. 🎉🎊🎯There’s nothing any team can do to stop the Texans. All they can do is their best and they just won’t be enough. CJ now has balanced targets and someone will ALWAYS be open. It will require man to man coverage to keep the yardage down per catch. If any team decide to double cover, it gonna always be a touchdown or more run yards after the catch by either of the receivers or Mixon since he’s a back field RB that can execute pass and run plays. The Texans are downright unbeatable right now unless other teams get multiple star DB’s and a star Safety on one team against the Texans.

Keep looking at that offense and watch when the season starts. Don’t forget about the moves that the Texans have made on defense. The Texans will become a #1 seed. The last year was very close with rookies injury after injury and still won the AFC South. That was pure coaching strategy!!!! And so look at them now with top tier pro bowl veterans and still a young team with hunger and energy. I’m just saying all that talent and skill cannot be ignored. You can stop one but not all of them.

Same song and dance from the Colts FO. Their strategy hasn’t changed since year 1. You’d think they may want to reconsider their philosophy, mainly because this team hasn’t sniffed a division title since Luck was behind center and TY Hilton was in his prime. Bill Polian had to “build through the draft”. Look at the guys he drafted. Manning, James, Wayne, Mathis, Freeney, Clark, Sanders. When you routinely draft HOF talent, you have to carefully manage the cap. This FO isn’t even close. The idea of “running it back” is kind of amusing. Sure, the SF 49ers may want to “run it back”…since they almost won a SB last year. Last year’s Colts team couldn’t even make the playoffs with one of the easiest schedules in the league. At least the Texans are making an effort to get better…it looks like they’re going to be the odds on favorite to win the division.

This is a tough one for the Colts. When I saw the Texans picked up Diggs, I had a few thoughts that cannot be typed in here. We aren't going to hang with them in the passing game. Stroud is as elite as it gets as a passer. And their 3 WRs are better than anything the Colts can put together even if the Colts got Harrison Jr. They have 3 serious weapons at WR. We'd have 1.5 with Harrison Jr. You can build a team to run the ball and dominate the clock. The Texans can't put up points if they can't get on the field. The other is what you mentioned with getting a pass rusher. I doubt the 86 Bears had better than just decent pass coverage. We saw what Miami was able to do to them. They did it because they had the one QB that could neutralize that blitz. Other than that, no one had a chance. Receivers didn't have a chance to test the corners. The QB was on his back before the receivers got anywhere. If you can work out some kind of combination of a vicious pass run and a ball control offense, I think you can take the division. Teams just aren't built to defend the run.

The problem for the Colts is the fact that my Texans (letting you know I'm a Texan fan) have also built one hell of a defense. The best way to play this team is play option, have balance and then we just bang it out on Sunday. Well it might not just be Sunday. I see a lot of night games in Texans future, maybe we'll bring you with us a couple of times. I hope we get to kick you guys' ass as much as you did ours. I'm really looking forward to this next season. Who would of thought I could of said that a year later after the Texans greatest draft. CJ Stroud might rock the NFL next season.

First, a 'relentless' pass rush, that most Colt fans remember or are speaking of requires a multiple-score lead before you can start doing it. Do you not also recall the run def back when we had that Freeney and Mathis? It's just like the idiots calling for a blitz every play. Every advantage in one area has a drawback in another. Name the pass rusher in this draft class that changes things. Latu is being compared to Tibadeau or Karliftis Those guys had a sack/QB hit number that was no different than what Samson Ebukam had. This does not improve the team. Verse is that run liability guy. He may very well be good for some teams i just don't see it helping ours currently. We are 'solid' at that position for the time. p.s. Ugh, I hate KZbin sometimes, it cut me off. lol Don't forget about the coaching change at the position. This guy seems like he's going to be good.
@raymondrussell1452
@raymondrussell1452 3 ай бұрын
I generally agree with what you’re saying. We do not have an offense that would suit the Freeney/Mathis defense. However, having an elite edge rusher would be huge for this defense. We have the roster and scheme to defend the run. A game changer one the edge(if there is one in this draft for us to get) would have the greatest impact for this team imo. Those 2000’s teams you referred to didn’t have DeFo and Big Grove in the middle. Corner is still a need but as deep as they this class is at the position, I’m taking an edge rusher in the first if we deem him to be worthy.
@basilfawlty241
@basilfawlty241 3 ай бұрын
@@raymondrussell1452 You really have to consider what people say when they talk about 'deep class'. Terms are thrown around so much these days they almost mean nothing. The 'age of information' has left everyone dumber than they/we were before. Is it deep because there are several elite guys? is it deep because there there is 10 guys that will be long term players that are just good? First off, this 'edge-rushing class' seems pretty poor to me. It has nobody that is a standout, it has maybe 3 players that may be good, and maybe 2-3 surprises that nobody sees coming. This does not sound like a group I want to take for wishful thinking. Secondly, the CB class does seem deep. Again, why? The top guys are not as good as we have seen in the last few years. Sauce and Witherspoon are standouts. This class has 4 guys (imo) that can fit into the top of the league category, but that also depends on fit with the drafting team. So while there may be 4, perhaps 1 or 2 work for your scheme. The class is deep because behind those 4 guys are another 10 give or take who have the potential to have successful long careers, but are not going to be elite. Honestly, we have one of those guys already, Juju is of that caliber of player, and Jones is of that 3rd tier who for whatever reason fell to us at 7 last year. He was not a bum prospect. These guys just need time before we find out. And what happens if they turn up not reaching potential, or getting an injury bug. At 15 if we have a chance to get one of those 4 (assuming the scouting coaches like them as we do) why would you pass on that? The edge guys are not elite. I could understand your stance if you were choosing between elite vs elite of a different position. That's just not the case. And just like I said on another form, even if one of these guys shocks everyone and is actually a stud. Has a Freeney-like first season, we improved the team by only 3 sacks over the guy you replaced him with.
@raymondrussell1452
@raymondrussell1452 3 ай бұрын
@@basilfawlty241 sounds like you’re more educated than I am. If there isn’t an elite pass rusher then I’m with you. Corner is the more urgent position if there isn’t an elite rusher. I was basing my argument off of the Freeney/Mathis defense giving up yards on the ground. Personnel and scheme are different with this team though and I think adding one of the two would do more than just simply adding 3 sacks.

They have won nothing, and their time is running out. How can you stop the Dolphins? Look at the WR excellence. NOTHING! Oh my god, the Bills. They added Diggs and he led the league in receiving yards, but still nothing. 4 years later of good but disgruntled production, and he's traded. And lets not forget he was disgruntled in Minnesota too. When the hell was the last time a locker room cancer turned a team into a winner? How the hell can anyone beat the Browns. Offense, Defense. Unbeatable. Holy shit look at the J E T S... Stacked team and AA Ron. Why do we even try? Someone always wins the offseason... It never follows up with a win. Texans lost guys in FA and then replaced those guys with upgrades at the position. Very smart, calculated moves vs. just dumping money to chase the name on the back of the jersey. Barkley wanted to come to Houston, the Eagles offered more. As an example. Nick did a great job last free agency period, just no one was paying attention.

By doing the same thing we've always done since Ballard arrived....sit back, watch other teams compete and make big signings, watch other teams use their first Rd picks or trade them for mult 1sts while we trade our 1st for a late second and a future 5th, resign our "starters" who wouldn't be on any other roster as a backup and convince ourselves we can compete....and let's put all our chips on Ar who should've been a 3 Rd or 4th Rd pick and is the most inaccurate injury prone QB in NFL history outside of jamarcus

Don't trust Ballard to draft a great pass rusher; look at his record. As far as the sack numbers for last season. I believe we should look at the awful QBs they faced last year. When faced with an above-average QB the pass rush vanished.

(With an evil smile) But, then there is CJ Stroud, what a beast. This is with respect. You guys kicked our ass early in the season, well done, but then watching as CJ got better and better with each game. Then we played the last game of the season against you, winner takes all. It was literally a battle to the end of the game. I love this rivalry, it makes for good football. Of course I hope CJ keeps us on top the way you guys were with Peyton. PERIOD! People can talk about all his great drafting and all these great players he’s drafted also people can continue to use the “Andrew Luck” excuse 🙄😴 and the “it takes time BS” 😴 all that matters are RESULTS! If the Texans and the Jaguars STAY 85% HEALTHY the Texans are winning the division and the Jaguars will come in second and the Colts will battle with the Titans for third.. Holy shit Justin. You just told everyone you don't know what you are looking at. Jones was not the best CB, sorry. You are certainly entitled to your opinion but you are just cherry-picking, or fishing if you prefer, for stats. I'm ok with it, kinda, I like Jones too, but you can't just go into a Biden-level spin class about it. Was Jones covering the top opposition like the other guys you listed? Was Jones on an island like some of those other guys, or was he given extra safety help? Did that extra safety help allow extra yards on the other side of the field that got assigned to someone else by PFF? It's the same shit as the people flipping out back with the Sneed trade suggesting he single handily shut down Jefferson. He didn't, the whole Def shifted to focus on him. Did those other guys have a LB group giving up 100+ receptions and 1100+ yards? Every play going towards another teammate makes that stat look better, regardless if Jones does something good or not. His yards after catch was fantastic. Why is that so low? Because he was in a position to stop YAC yards. A 'better' CB may have allowed more YAC yards but his deflections go way up. Witherspoon for example, had 16 deflections and Jaylon had 5. The best thing he did, which you did not cover, at least at the point I'm typing this is his missed tackles. Only 2, by pfr counting, which is fantastic.
