The secret sauce to optimize all of that is if you're committed to an international lifestyle. If you have an official residency in another country and spend enough time outside the US each year, then you qualify for the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion. It's about 100k for you as an individual, I think 225k for you and spouse combined. The idea is to keep all of your capital gains and dividends within the advantageous offshore entities and trust holdings, and keep the actual payout to yourself, the US Taxpayer, under the exclusion limit. If you find yourself yearning to spend winters in Mexico or have business somewhere overseas, it can make sense. But for the average person who wants to live in America full time its just an exercise in unnecessary complications.

How does one's gender/sex impact these offshore trusts/companies, etc? I know you've said Saudi Arabia and from my research of the area and what I've heard from Saudi friends, from what I understand, it's the men who can own property-intellectual and otherwise, there. If I were to do business there as a woman, especially if I were to be married to a man, would my assets still be protected the way it would if I were a man? Or would I have to defer my assets to my husband? Does it matter if I'm a single woman? Or is this one of the instances where a woman would just stay out of?

Sounds like a good reason to give up US residency if most your money comes from overseas.

It’s simple, get a second citizenship and residency then renounce US citizenship. The USA isn’t the be all and end all to life.
