An amazing conversation. As an Indian muslim in the US I do interact with a lot of Pakistani’s. I used to think what was the view of Maulana Azad in terms of the financial aspect of creation of Pakistan, and I recently read about this in his book where in an interview he says and I quote “The elite business class muslims of the undivided India fear competition from the Gujarati’s Jains and Parsi communities that they are hiding behind the postulation’s of an Islamic governed state and muslims. After the creation of Pakistan, over the years these elites will imbibe the booze of the wealth of Pakistan and let it die at the hands of its enemies”. I hope that some leader may be Imran Khan can break the shackles of slavery for himself and his country 😅Pun intended sry. But amazing content bro.

I can comment firsthand on how 1% of Pakistanis live, so we had many students from Pak in the USA at my university; they are the cream of Pakistan; they buy cars, live lavishly, and hardly do any part-time job, while Indians mostly from middle class live a ordinary student life

This was a genuinely insighful glimpse at social, political and economic forces that determine the lives of about 220 million people. I feel this sphere has been in shadows for too long, espcially for people like me that arent a part of this exclusive bubble. I think the most intresting dicsussion in all of the podcast was the fact that almost everyone Dr Rosita talked to didnt consider themselves to be contributing to the machine that is causing a lot of problems or suffering. And their respsones were simple whataboutsim when Rosita confronted them about the reality. This a weird circle jerk where everyone thinks other people are the problem, to try to shift the blame and distance themselves from the 'bad' things. I feel like this is not just sort of way to 'keep apperances' , it geneuinly feels like a lot of these people have started to belive in the BS they themselves make up. A sort of human response to justify their position and to justify their exploitation, however small or large it may be.

Very insightful. But One point that are misleading is that all migrants settled in Karachi. Only Urdu speaking migrants, Bengalis, Gujaratis etc or some others (mainly from UP) settled in Karachi. The rest settled around Punjab. More than 50% migrants settled in Punjab. I belong from a migrant family and almost all of our village came from Indian Haryana and Delhi region. But our second third generation assimilated locally and we identify ourself with the local identity of Punjab, whereas Migrants and Sindhis essentially divided into distinct ethnicites in Sindh and were not able to assimilate with each other to this day. Moreover General Zia Ul Haq's family was also a Muhajir and his family settled in Punjab. They came after 1948 in Pakistan. I don't know that why many miss this point.

Don’t worry I’ll definitely try my best to buy the book and make a pdf copy available for everyone because it’s absolutely necessary for every pakistani to read this book and broaden their exposure and perspective on how the elites operate and how they exploit the people of Pakistan, if this is unethical on her opinion then I wouldn’t do so however I’ll try my best to make this book available for everyone.

The system itself is a major obstacle to progress and even if one throws money at PK in the form of aid it will not filter down to where it is needed. It appears there is no concept of a wider society among the elite outside of their own circle. This is equivalent to the medieval societies in Europe.

I subscribed just so I could understand the culture given the situation in Afghan and Pakistan. I am a self proclaimed Islamist living in America from a privileged background but not too bright nor too pretentious. But I do have delusions of grandeur imagining that I might do some good for “my people” and bring the khilafah back even though it was destroyed within 30 years of our dear prophets demise.
