Your stall sizes are perfect for Friesians, especially the Mamas! I love the stall door patterns which allow them to reach down to eat hay from the hall - an anatomically healthy eating position like grazing, and they can see each other, their herd … it's cleaner too, no mixing hay and straw. Boy- all I can say is thank Heaven for tractors !

👍👍👍. It may have been a barn for cows but you’ve turned it into a palace for horses. Our upper barn was done by hand and an old pick up truck cus it fit. Sometimes we’d race to see how fast we could clean the upper and lower barns one cleaned by a tractor. With two of us doing it by hand at our best strength gave it a challenge and win. Today the youth does it while I drive the tractor. Let’s say I earned that right. The poo went to one of two arenas in piles to dry out and then spread and pile up again until dry. It was what the arena was built with along with clay and granite soil. A lot softer to land on and developed muscle in horses. Any extra poo went to fertilizer at local nurseries. With all the work to give comfort and good health to horses who needs a gym. Great video and love all the info you share. ❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

This takes me back to my pre-teen years when my parents let me have my first pony, then another and then my horse.. on the condition that I would take 'care' of them. And I did, shovelling sh*t every day, because that's what having horses is all about. It may seem glamorous, up there, above it all, riding.. but then there's the legwork. These ladies DO have it down to a science.

Yep! Was reading recently, a bale of hay costs up to $10(us) now one need consider what it will cost in the future of Climate Change!! Now better realise why Stal G. Has only about 25 Friesians on site.. Hopefully, science will help to figure out this future problem... Am thinking all breeding stables will need to be kept small in future, however- on the positive side, the gene pool will be in a better situation..... I think! Open to correction, as guessing here.

I agree how convenient to use shovel/tractor, we only use it when we completely clean out stalls once every six months or when horses scheduled for spelling (break from training more than two months out in the big field). I worked in NZ, Australia, U.S. and Canada mostly we use wheelbarrow to clean out poop/urine spots for daily use and can be challenging during winter because of ice/snow especially in Canada was the worst during winter...Australia, NZ no problem we did use shovel/tractor. Here in U.S. it depends on states with Florida/Kentucky being easiest while NJ can be sometimes brutal during winter.

What a lot of work. I appreciate how clean all those stalls are. What happens with the big mounds of manure?

So why cant you do something about that muddy arena? Move in a truckload of sand and make it drain to one end. Just an idea :-)

Very useful bit of apparatus, Yvonne. I have heard it referred to (called) a "shit shovel" or even "shit shuttle" - somewhat crude though accurate. Great video though.
