The water molecules are depicted as one big circle with two smaller circles attached indicating its composition of two hydrogen and one oxygen atom for each water molecule. The "air molecules" on the other hand are depicted as simple circles, but neither Nitrogen nor Oxygen nor Carbondioxid nor most of the other particles that makes up air consists of only a single atom. At least that is what he means with "error". I don't agree though. I think the purpose is to distinct air from water, which works fine imho.
@leonelc29
@leonelc29 7 жыл бұрын
Treufuß That's cleared up a bit, i thought there's something more serious about that. imo it works just fine, and if the air were depict as their actual molecule, it will be rather confusing.

I did some water survival training that explored this concept. We were in a cold pool that simulated being stuck at sea. We put opened normal trash bags and pulled them over our feet and tucked ourselves in with our heads and floatation devices above the surface of the water. Our bodies heat the water around us like you said. They are always heating this water. But the open water moves so the water we just heated is no longer next to us. When we isolate the heated water next to our body, it does keep us warm. Also, piss like that one guy said.
@RobManser77
@RobManser77 2 жыл бұрын
No, that’s nonsense. A layer of water cannot keep you warm. Water is a good conductor of heat. This video is wrong - see my post above. All insulators that I’m aware of use gases, normal air, or a vacuum. Water is far too dense to insulate.

@pramitbanerjee
@pramitbanerjee 7 жыл бұрын
that's what the internet does. Its the age of triviality. Trivial information that no one needs, discarded after a moment's use. No knowledge is too sacred, too important. It is a continuation of the television's "Now...this" newscasts where the information of a possible nuclear war is succeeded by a commercial of burger king.
@search895
@search895 7 жыл бұрын
pramitbanerjee well you are right somehow but if the information you get from internet is not relevant is more one's fault because you click on it to see it. And if you can not find something personally relevant to learn in 2017's internet, most probably you need to find what you want out of life first.
@pramitbanerjee
@pramitbanerjee 7 жыл бұрын
its my choice to reply to your post. But its also your fault to write your post in a manner which requires me to reply to it. Because you missed the point entirely. I don't argue for the individual, i argue for the collective, whose patterns are much easier to identify.
@search895
@search895 7 жыл бұрын
pramitbanerjee what? I just pointed that 1) internet, unlike tv, is interactive. the user always chooses what to see or not. it's not like it's bombarding you with information you didnt ask, not all the time. 2) it's full of useful content today. you can learn almost anything from your screen. I was not trying to insult you really. The problem is many people dont know how to use internet. They dont bother sesrching and conparing sources, asking the proper questions, or orgaqnizing their online time (that's me).

I have a bit more to add to this. The reason neoprene is chosen is for its thermal diffusivity instead of its thermal conductivity. Thermal diffusivity has to do with how long it takes transient heat to move through the material. This is why you use charts with wetsuits to determine how long you can be in the water if the water is at a certain temperature. As opposed to a house insulation, which is chosen for thermal conductivity which limits steady state heat flow. Both of these are methods of limiting conductive heat flow. The metal layer in some suits would be for limiting radiation heat flow, but wouldn't help limit the conductive heat flow. I don't think radiation heat flow is as affected by transient states as conductive heat flow, so that part probably doesn't need to be factored in.

Please don't get me wrong, as I can say nothing bad about Olivia in person. She's a real sweet and awesome girl for all I care. But why is she still presenting? Her intonation is so incredibly annoying!! And I'm not the only one who's been mentioning since the beginning that she started presenting. And you would think that the SciShow crew (so, Olivia included) reads these comments and tries to improve her skills, but no. Please Olivia, dial back the theater play style intonation.

Hey Olivia, thanks for presenting this topic! I'm not a diver, and I already knew in principle how this works. Though I learned something new: the heat-reflecting metal layer. Sure that makes sense, like these rescue plastic film blankets (don't know how they're actually named in English) work. Also, I'd like to state there's nothing wrong with how you present a topic. That's your show, your rules, so don't give much on hater's opinions. You're doing it great as a host, and I really appreciate the work of your whole team. It's great work!

Pedro Rocha you have to take that information in context. And on another note, air will cool an object down to the same temperature that water would if they are the same temperature. Water just does it fast. But, since your body is constantly producing heat, you will reach a lower minimum temp in water as opposed to air.

All these people hating on Olivia are doing it in the wrong way. You can be constructive without being hurtful. IMO I don't like the sound of her voice and her presenting style. That doesn't mean other people aren't ok with it. Follow you talents Olivia, but IMO speaking for a science KZbin channel isn't one of them.

I guess the style. Dressing, the glasses, make up. It shouldn't be important here, but well... it's all about presentation and presentation includes wardrobe. Personally I don't care:p

i don't dislike her, i just find her way of speaking annoying. but she seems to be getting better. she was also in two videos that were called out for bullshit and later taken down. so i guess that makes people dissliker her to.
