Best explanation I found, thanks! I would say that the tension is higher when you set up the bridge to bend. It is noticably higher - like if you use a gauge thicker strings. But if you use it in the zone two (no bending), the tension is the same as on guitar with fixed bridge.
@MadManMusic
@MadManMusic Жыл бұрын
I’m glad you think so! That could be. Honestly really only use the system set up for bending. But it makes a bit sense to feel a bit difference in the tension. Though I can’t exactly say I’ve noticed it with my guitars. To me the system feels similar in tension to playing a Floating Tremolo. Like there is always a force pulling on the strings a bit. But I like that! I think it allows me to play a smaller gauge string and still have a bit if tension. I use 9’s as opposed to 10’s on my 7 strings and they are really comfortable for me. Anywho, Thanks for watching! 🤘🏼😜

I agree 100% with Matt. There hasn't been any innovation associated with the electric guitar basically since it's inception. Brass blocks aren't that innovative, at times steel blocks still seem to sound better in fact. As a recent Evertune bridge convert, it really is a game changer, regardless of playing style, unless your a Satch or Vai or Beck true tremolo user. Many players insist on having a Floyd Rose yet they hardly use it, which is not worth all the tuning headaches associated with it IMO.
@MadManMusic

I agree, Floyds are a lot of work... useless you "USE" it.. Its not something I've ever really focused on. I can do a bunch of fun stuff with it but it just not a priority for me in my playing. I would rather have the tuning consistency. Being able to just pick up my guitar and know its in tune is just WILD! Thanks for the comment! 🤘🏼😜

@@MadManMusic Agreed! I own a guitar startup company called Sustain Guitars, and every customer starts out selecting a hotrodded Floyd, however now I've got a legitimate option for the to consider. The question I have to ask is how often do you really use such a temperamental bridge? The hardest part is getting them to believe their is actually an alternative that stays in tune like the Evertune does. It's also seemingly impervious to even humidity! 🙏
@MadManMusic
@MadManMusic 3 жыл бұрын
Hey again! Literally the only “Con” to using the EverTune system is that you’re Locked into one Tuning. Not so unlike a Floyd. But when the system is set up properly you can literally set it and forget it. Once its in tune, it will stay in tune. You just have to adjust the tension to allow for Bending. This will shift and change with time. This process takes no longer than it would to tune any other guitar. The system is perfect for Studio and Touring Musicians. However might be a little much for the Bedroom Players. 🤘🏼😜

@@MadManMusic and since they are such a technology based company, it's likely only a matter of time until they unveil a tremolo version of Evertune, we just must believe this to be true. While I haven't asked them specifically since being in contact with them, it's the next logical step on the drawing board, no? I mean we now use ABM's Katana 5400 floating tremolo, all inclusive and zero upgrades necessary, you've already got Sophia with their tremolo system on the market, already just like the ABM making the FR style obsolete. I realize Ibanez has patented some extremely impressive designs with their Edge systems, they are not a universal product for other manufacturers to implement. As for Sustain Guitars, while we are in a holding pattern due to our own utility design patent, which is unrelated to the bridge, we've partnered with ABM for now because of their quality and constant research and development towards all their products. Not to change the topic, but since this isn't in direct competition with Evertune at this time, for those that haven't ever likely even heard or demoed an ABM Katana, don't just take my word for it, here's the original review that hit me over the head like an Anvil when I was introduced to it: www.projectguitar.com/product_reviews/guitar_parts/abm-5400-katana-tremolo-system-r4/ ABM was also kind enough to feature us on their homepage even to this day, which was the first guitar we custom built for a very famous and demanding client, and also our first design to feature a non-FR, abm-guitarpartsshop.com/ Please do not consider this a shameless plug, as it's not intended to be. While we're still awaiting for our USPTO approval, were still taking orders when space allows. Keeping your finger on the pulse of new technology in this extremely competitive business is the only way to stand out and win customers for life, that's my opinion and our mission statement of sorts. The customer is always right, until they are misinformed or simply out of the loop.🤘

I dig it! Well I hope to have the opportunity to Jam one of your guitars one day! Im sure the quality and attention to detail is impeccable! Im not sure if EverTune will make a Floyd-Like Tremolo system.. the amount of play that you have in tension in Zone 2 (the section of the system where your pitch will not change and bending is impossible) is pretty large.. thus, a tremolo effect is kind of impossible.. But you’re right, if they were to expand of their design, a trem would be a seemingly obvious idea. We’ll see! I’d definitely rock an ET-Trem! Thanks for all the info, good luck with your brand! 🤘🏼😜

I have two Evertune guitars and I love it but this one thing. Both mine are a little bit “soft” at the zone 2/3 transition. In order to drop back into the upper edge of Zone 2 (watching with a tuner to be sure and stop as soon as it gets there) bending ( vibrato ) is still a little less sensitive than I get from my Floyd guitars.

@@MadManMusic I haven’t heard back from Jackson but here’s what ai got back from EverTune : That's unfortunate, it can happen depending on the thickness of the body and the string action, as these factors determine where the husk of the string module is situated when there is no string on it. In such a case, modifying the back plate by enlarging the hole would be the only option to resolve this. Best regards, Fabian - So now I have to someone how to modified back plate?
@MadManMusic
@MadManMusic 2 жыл бұрын
Hmm.. I know Fabian, he’s a good dude. We’ve been chatting for a few years now. He’s Austrian but lives here in Germany so we talk a lot about life here in D-Land, but he’a very knowledgeable and gives good advice. But I think here he knows that its hard to tell how serious the situation is without seeing it. Maybe you should try to get it set up properly before making any modifications to your pickguard/backplate Maybe adjusting the action or intonation might correct this issue. Make sure your open notes and your 12th fret notes are perfectly in tune when played and see if that points you in the right direction. Keep us posted. 🤘🏼😜

OK so it looks everything cool, but I think that while bending you are going from zone 2 to 3 to change the pitch, but while bending string lose some tension. Then each time, you are more far away from zone 3 so you need to bend more because it's changes the distance from zone 3, so you again need to set strings back to where you want them to be beetwen zone 2 and 3 to make bends work like in normal guitar. Which is kind of pointless, because I still need to move locking tooners like in normal bridge everytime I play some, but it's just does not allow strings to sound of without bends and that's all what evertune bridge does If I'm right then I'm not sure if I should buy it. And it also removes flexibility of tuning the way you want it to be if I'm correct, for example I have strings 11-48 on 6 string guitar. And evertune bridge lock it into DROP D, but I want to go into DROP B#, does it allow me to do that to be in beetwen zone2 and zone3 to use bends?
@MadManMusic
@MadManMusic 3 жыл бұрын
Hi sorry for the late reply. Yes, in order to bend you need to be set up right at the end of Zone 2 going into Zone 3. So when you're not bending you're in Zone 2 and the System is Working. Yes, if you do not stretch your string properly when you change them Excessive Bending will result in the tension being reduced and that string falling further into Zone 2, making it harder to bend. But this won't be a problem if you make it a habit to stretch your strings well from the beginning. After that you'll have quick Bend Stop Check when you pick up the guitar to play (which is no different then checking your tuning on any other guitar each time you play) and you'll be good to go! Yes, the EverTune system does limit Alt Tuning Flexibility. You can easily set the guitar up in Drop D and then just tune the Low E up into Zone 3 to have Standard E tuning... However that E will then be susceptible to Tuning Issues as the EverTune system is not working on that specific string at that point. But again, realize that this is the case and check your tuning once in a while. As I mention in all the videos I've posted about the EverTune, its definately not for everyone. But its a complete game changer for those that can make use of it. For instance, when I tour with my band Pro-Pain, I play in Standard B (7 string) and thats it. So I literally never have to check my tuning throughout our hour and a half set! THAT is worth the limitations! Thanks for the questions, I hope I have helped you out! 🤘🏼😜

My lowest string just keeps on going higher in pitch but I'm not reaching zone 3 and I'm too afraid to go higher lol. Any workaround or do I just go as high as I can for it to get to zone 3? I must have done something wrong because the pitch keep rising way higher than it's supposed to. All other strings are in D standard but the lowest (thickest) string raises to over E and still no bend stop. Zone 2 is where I'm supposed to tune it from the bridge right?
@MadManMusic
@MadManMusic 8 ай бұрын
This sounds like maybe you need to "reset" the Saddle. On that string, use your hex key to Loosen/ Detune the Saddle as far as it will go, making sure to Adjust the tension with the Tuning Machine along the way to insure you're still in Zone 2. Once you've done that, check the tuning. At that point you "Should" be lower than D. From there do the opposite and Tune Up to D. Give that a try and let us know how it works. If it doesn't work, I would suggest talking to EverTune Customer Support. 🤘🏼😜

I'm having some difficulties at the moment. I have one string (5th) that keeps raising in pitch when I turn the tuning peg on the headstock. It is way too high for the pitch I want. Is it safe to tune from the bridge if I'm at this situation? I don't want to go way too sharp with the tuning peg on the headstock. If I try to loosen the string it doesn't lock into any set tuning. The bridge saddle is quite close to the bridge pickup.
@MadManMusic
@MadManMusic Жыл бұрын
That sounds like a series of issues. What I would suggest is loosening the tension using the tune peg until the string is very loose, the tuning the bridge saddle all the way flat (So counter clockwise), then raising the tension again using the tuning peg to see where it lands as far as pitch. Then adjust the saddles tuning (in Zone 2) to whatever note you’re trying to achieve. This process should “reset” your saddle, so to speak. Let us know if that helps. 🤘🏼😜

I am a blind player, considering an Everton purchase and have watched many videos… I still want to just confirm this what I think to be true, that you don’t actually have to see anything happening with that saddle to be able to tune to a bending state right between two and three, correct? Thanks!
@MadManMusic
@MadManMusic Жыл бұрын
Hey! Welcome and thanks for the question! As long as your guitar is initially setup and tuned correctly, you can make the proper tension adjustments for bending completely by ear. I have also posted another tip in a few video that might be useful. When you want to find the bendstop (which is the most ideal position for bending) lightly pull up on each string. You’ll hear the mechanism inside the saddle tap the bendstop. Raise the tension using your tuning machine until the click goes away. That means the mechanism is now sitting against the bendstop and you are in Zone 3. Loosen the tension slightly until that click faintly returns and you’ll be in the perfect spot for bending and staying in tune! I hope that helps. Feel free to ask if you have any more questions! 🤘🏼😜

Does evertune cause a decrease in sustaine when bending? Like a longer bend as you would hear from Dave Gilmore. I like a nice long sustained bend sometimes and would hate to lose that.
@MadManMusic
@MadManMusic Жыл бұрын
While bending you’ll actually have added sustain (in theory) because the Spring Mechanisms in the bridge will be disengaged. But then that also depends on the radius of your neck and your action. But i have noticed that when you’re just ringing out a chord you might have slightly less sustain. Because of the system is trying to balance the tension. Similar to a Floyd Rose Tremolo. 🤘🏼😜

Adjustments in Temperature do change the tension of the strings, but they wont change tuning (or pitch rather) until the tension is high enough to make the Bend Stop activate moving you into Zone 3. At that point you would simply adjust the tension back to the correct positions using the headstock tuning machines on each string. Which is something you'll do normally anyway. When you pick the guitar up for the day you'll want to check they you're near the Bend Stop anyway. So if you picked your guitar up and it is out of tune you just have to lower the tension using the tuning machines. I hope that helps! 🤘🏼😜

So I went to try this at the store. When I got the guitar from zone 3 to zone 2 - which was an alarming amount of tuning up - the saddle was pulled way forward and no longer floating. It was my understanding you should be able to tug the string with your picking hand and see the saddle move - but this guitar would not. None of the techs at CME knew what the problem was, which I suspected maybe it had saddles for a different gauge installed. Any ideas why this is, because your low E looked like it was still floating in this video! I didn’t buy the guitar without an answer to this.
@MadManMusic

If you pull on the string the saddle will move as you add tension. The thing is when you tune your system you’re not at “max tension”, you’re at something below that, at the threshold of the bend stop. You never want to be IN Zone 3. Always at the very end of Zone 2. 🤘🏼😜

@@MadManMusic I think I solved this. My guess is that someone installed the “low tension” modules on this guitar, then it was restrung with regular gauge. The “break stop” would be too much pressure and pull the saddle towards the nut. Since each module is $40, and there doesn’t seem an obvious way to identify the style of module, replacing would be very costly and a good warning about buying second hand without having that information disclosed. Your video was very helpful, but I don’t recall you showing the saddle hitting the break stop. The break stop just means the saddle stops floating, allowing the bend to happen. Perhaps that can be shown, or you did and I was distracted. The break stop is the key to understanding the Evertune.
@MadManMusic
@MadManMusic 2 жыл бұрын
Hmm.. it seems fairly unlikely that they would have installed the wrong Tension Type, but its not impossible i suppose. You mean the “Bend Stop” and yes I speak about it frequently because people dont really seem to understand the importance of being in Zone 2 just before the Bend Stop and Not in Zone 3. (For anyone else reading this, that was for you! 👊🏼) This system is a bit of a balancing act and its not kind to really extreme string gauges. More than 10’s you’ll have problems. But once you have everything set up nicely you’ll find that these bridge work really well and are unbelievably consistent. Let us know how the saddle replacement goes! 🤘🏼😜
@alancosens
@alancosens 3 жыл бұрын
So it seems there is a very small amount of distance you have to bend before the ET bridge stops adjusting, which means the play that is needed to affect this would be very tiny. What I don't get is, it seems like the ET bridge only keeps it in tune of the strings tend to go flat as they stretch. A string that tends to go sharp would simply pull the ET bridge saddle to the stop point would it not? In other words, it would only auto-adjust the tension effectively when they go flat? And wouldn't slight vibrato be gone entirely?
@MadManMusic
@MadManMusic 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Alan, thanks for the question! Yes and No. Zone 2 (where there is 100 tension compensation) is pretty vast.. there is lots of play in that area so you could easily set the system to Not Bend. But its recommended to set the system near to the end of Zone 2 so that when you add tension, like with a bend, it will effortlessly move into Zone 3 and feel natural. Yes the way the system works specifically is that you’ll notice it working more with string that go flat rather than sharp, but thats just physics and the fact that in order for the guitar to play “Naturally” you need to be close to the area where “Added” tension brings you to the bend stop. However, if you want Zero Bend, for instance you want to record super solid rhythms, you could set the guitar a bit deeper into Zone 2. Then you wouldn’t notice string slippage in either direction. I hope that helps! Let me know if you have more questions! 🤘🏼😜

Thanks for the helpful video, Curious about how it works with a first fret slide down which would do a tiny drop in pitch on a normal bridge which is something we do on a couple songs, or with jumbo frets when I push to hard and it goes sharp, if I set it up for bends I guess that would still go sharp? maybe when recording certain things you might want to put it more in the middle of zone 2?
@MadManMusic
@MadManMusic 3 жыл бұрын
When set up correctly it will function exactly the same as any other guitar! And yes, when recording rhythms that are meant to be solid and not top bendy, pulling the tension from the tuning machines a good 1/2 turn or so will put you in a good place. However I rarely do this.. i usually keep it step up for bends. In this position your rhythm playing is still going to be in Zone 2. 🤘🏼😜

@@MadManMusic Also, one more question: I see the Evertune has a string gauge calculator to see what goes with a standard tension module. I tried my James Hetfield signature 11-50s and it says they work with anything up til c standard; Will my strings be uncomfortable to play on a standard tension Evertune in drop c? Like, will the tension be too high, and I won't be able to bend normally as the strings are too tight??
@MadManMusic
@MadManMusic 2 жыл бұрын
No problem dude! I’m happy to help! Playing High Tension Strings can be tricky.. yes there is the calculator but in my experience there may be unforeseeable issues such as it being super uncomfortable. But an 11-50 does seem to be too wild. Something like 13’s + would be impossible. I would suggest “carefully” trying them. The issue that will tell you whether or not that tension will work is if you can get it in tune. Dont worry so much about the bending at that point. If it gets to the pitch you’re trying to tune too, you’ll then want to make sure to check your intonation, action, and fine tuning. Remember higher tension will effect all of these things. If all goes well, raise the tension to the Bend-Stop and you’re good! Let us know how it goes! 🤘🏼😜

Im not sure what you’re referring to exactly, but I can assure you that when this system is set up correctly it feels and plays like anything other guitar. As you play and the string tension “loosens” or if you were using a traditional bridge “go flat” you’ll have to raise the tension back to the threshold pf the bendstop. This takes mere moments and doesn’t require a tuner. So its really easy. Once set up, you just maintain the tension in the correct position and you wont have to do any serious adjustments until the next string change. I hope that makes better sense. If not, lemme know! 🤘🏼😜

Ive been working on guitars for 30 plus years.ive set up i gues 6 or so evertunes. I thought it was genius at first. And to be fair, it's really awesome when you take one apart and see the module itself. Its an amazing design, but, seems to me that when you get to the bend-stop ( zone 3) , the threshold is done for....no more string help. For example if you simply go straight into zone 3, those springs are just dead mass now which is a good thing on an electric but if you do need to bbend, i really cant see any advantages.

Im not sure I follow. Once you reach / setup the guitar just before the Bend-Stop, you can bend notes and add vibrato just like any other guitar. So you stay perfectly in tune when you’re not adding extra tension by bending/vibrato and then you can simply do those things and the system will go up in pitch. It really is genius! 🤘🏼😜

You’ll use the “Fine Tuners” inside of the Saddles to tune the guitar to whatever pitch you’d like as long as there is enough String Tension to do so. So mind your string gauges. If you’re using a set that’s extremely heavy or light you may want to check the EverTune website and use their String Tension Calculator to determine if you need Low or High Tension Saddle Mechanisms. However if you’re using something more traditional, 9s 10s, you’ll be fine with the stock saddles. Have a look at this video for more info on fine tuning. The truth is the Evertune bridge, makes the guitar a completely different instrument. It needs to be played differently, it needs to be thought about differently. Even when you approach the threshold of zone two correctly, subtle nuances are not capable, this is a very precise instrument, and when you go to bend the bend starts a little higher out of nowhere. So in short, it feels different and sounds different but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing it means it’s something that just needs to be treated differently. I got one I’m going to keep it and I’m going to find creative new. Sounds with it even if they are super subtle .
@MadManMusic
@MadManMusic 8 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment. Some things "setup -wise" need to be thought about differently... ie, not using the tuning pegs to actually tune the guitar but rather using the saddle mechanism... but the differences end there. If anything, you play the guitar with 'much less' concern than you would a traditional guitar. For instance, I know with certainty that my guitars are setup correctly... so I just pick up my guitars and play them.. I don't have to check anything. I know its in tune and I know that I'll be able to bend. And if I discover that one of my strings needs to be adjusted, I quickly reset the tension and boom, I'm good to go. It takes seconds and then I'm back to not thinking twice about it. Nothing sounds different... These aren't installed on acoustic instrument, so the bridge has basically nothing to do with the sound from an amp. Thats just the pickups. The bridge it itself really only effects the feel and sustain. It has similar mechanics to a Floyd Rose so you'll have a similar feel. So again, other than initial setup, if done correctly, the instrument should and will play like any other... only better because you have less to worry about. 🤘😜

Sounds like you would have to be constantly checking for gaps on vibratos and bends if the strings become loose and they could go sharp over the bend stop due to friction in the nut after lots of bending.
@MadManMusic
@MadManMusic 8 ай бұрын
Generally your strings dont go sharp from bending (or any type if rigorous playing), they’ll go flat. And when an EverTune when that happens, if you didnt stretch your strings properly, you will go flat.. but what that equates to is the Pitch staying the same (perfectly in tune) but the ability to bend will be lessened. But when you change your strings just stretch them properly (meaning until that dont go flat when stretching them) and you wont have that issue and you’ll retain all of those beautiful bends! 🤘🏼😜

Maybe I'm the one who missed a step, but I don't understand whether, once you've transitioned from zone 2 to zone 3 and retuned to enable bending, the guitar stays in tune or if it goes out of tune and needs readjustment, like a "regular" guitar. I mean, I perfectly understand the advantage of staying in tune in zone 2 for rhythm and chords, but for soloing, if zone 3 has the same "problems" as a normal bridge, I'm not sure it's for me.
@MadManMusic

So the idea is you set the tension of each string just below the threshold of Zone 2 and 3. This is where the “Bend Stop” exists. You never set the guitar in Zone 3. Never. Its always in Zone 2, staying in tune. BUT, because you’re just below the Bend Stop, when you add tension by Bending or adding Vibrato, you then hit the Bend Stop and the Bending / Vibrato occurs and it feels just as natural as any other guitar… then when you release the tension the string effortlessly goes back into Zone 2 and maintains it pitch / tuning. I hope that makes sense! 🤘🏼😜

@@MadManMusic yes, this was clear to me. I'll try to rephrase the question in a simpler way: If I regularly do bending or vibrato and set the bridge in zone 2 (tuned) but at the edge of zone 3 so I can perform bending and vibrato, does the bridge need to be retuned frequently or does it remain in tune? (thank you for your super quick reply! )

@sismachine It stays in tune for “ever”. By bending all you will do is “Loosen” the Tension over time reducing your ability to bend. But it will remain perfectly in tune. So, when you pick up the guitar just check that your tension is set to the correct spot, and jam! 🤘🏼😜

Nope! Because when you set it to Bend you're still in Zone 2, where the pitch wont change, but once you add tension to the string by bending it will then hit the "Bend Stop" and more into Zone 3. So unless you're adding extra tension, you're stay in Zone 2 and Stay in Tune! Hope that helps! 🤘🏼😜

Good detailed explanation. Only one thing I'm not sure I understand. As we enter the threshold between zone 2 into zone 3, the 7th string may be tuned at open B for example. If this is off in pitch, how do we adjust it, or another example, how do we get it tuned to A for example. In other words, how do we vary the pitch of Zone 2, for example from B to A, or B to D?

Great question! You don’t want to “Fine Tune” at the Threshold of the Bend Stop. You want to detune or lower the tension using your tuning machine on the headstock a half a turn or so, then tune the string to B or even A using your 2.5mm Hex Key THEN tune it back up to the Bend Stop using the tuning machine again. I have a video regarding “Tuning and Intonation” coming out this Saturday so if this explanation doesn’t help, Hopefully that one will! Thanks for the question, I hope it helped! Let us know! 🤘🏼😜

Great to have you in the Community! That Horizon will be a cool guitar for sure. I am guessing that will be your first experience with the EverTune. I may have an idea of where your confusion lies. On a guitar with an ET, You’re no longer “Tuning” using the tuning machines on the headstock. You will only use those to being the tension of the string into the correct “Tension Positions” known as Zone 1, 2, 3. All “tuning” is done in Zone 2 by using the included Hex Key Tool that will come with your guitar (2.5mm Hex). That tool is inserted directing into the String Saddle and that is where you’ll fine tune the Pitch of the string. (Or detune it for Drop Tunings). The video will likely be a bit easier to follow but i assure you the process is not all that difficult. Once its done it will “basically” stay that way and then you’ll just use the tuning machines to make sure your tension is near the threshold of the bend stop. I hope this is helping! If not feel free to keep asking questions until it makes sense for you. I’ll do my best to help you out! 🤘🏼😊 Heres a link to the next video. You can set a reminder for when its releasing.
