How Do You Choose a Burgundy Wine

You go to a restaurant and order a bottle of Volnay. Then, you buy another Volnay at the wine shop and bring it home. To your surprise, when you open it, it's not at all like the Volnay you enjoyed in the restaurant and is actually quite disappointing (and not cheap). So you get scared off. Unless you have some sort of guidance, there is no real way to go about doing this. We drink Winemakers, not wine labels.
