Great checklist to help one step back and evaluate their work.

And it is challenging to take that step back. Do you spend time away from your work before you self-edit?

I am always shocked how much I don’t see that the editor sees. So many doh moments. Time does help, but hard for me to set things aside for long enough to come back fresh. Thank god for editors.

The magic of a developmental editor!

Hold on, I clicked on here thinking I would get some advice on self-developmental editing but within the first few minutes you say "...before you hire the professional developmental editor". So if hiring a professional is inevitable, what's the point of this video? Sorry - rant over!

My opinion is that you should hire an editor. And before you do, do as much work on your manuscript as you can. When I create proposals, the price is dependent on how much work needs to be done. If you have obviously worked on your manuscript - taken my advice or another professional's advice and your manuscript needs less work, the edit will cost you less. Many authors want to do as much editing as possible before handing it over. So, the point of the video is to help you be as self-sufficient as possible an author (if you wish) and find the right editor to work with when you are ready. I hope that clears up your confusion!
