Dear friends and followers, in this video I´ll explain how to fill out your pilot´s logbook.
The pilot´s logbook is a key element in your career on becoming an airline pilot. If you want to apply for any flight job, the employer will ask you how many hours have you flown, to assess how much flying experience you´ve had in the past. Nowadays, there are of course all sorts of Apps to record you flight hours, but I highly recommend that you stick to old fashion way and write down your hours in a proper pilots log book.
So enjoy the video, and I´ll go through each column step by step!
All the best and have fun collection you precious first flight hours!
Joe

@ StreamCareers When your logbook is full, you just add the first to last date to the front of the book and get another. I would tend to keep a digital and paper copy of each. That way the digital version can do the math and I just have to copy the information to the paper one. Voila no errors

@@weebyy3879 haha sorry to disappoint I completely forgot about this comment. Nah I ended up changing passions, I would still like a private pilots licence one day, but to fly commercially seems dull for me now, I'd hate to sit in a cockpit for hours plus I hate being away from home. now I'm 24 and I am a Machinist, which is my dream and I love it. So I guess I achieved my dream just a different one. Thanks for the comment, feels a bit like time travel. What are you guys doing now?

Pilots and truck drivers(of whom I am one)have a lot of similar paperwork. We in the US changed over to E-Logs at the end of 2017, but my company has us filling out a paper log in addition to the electronic one. The main reason is that our E-Logs can be glitchy at times, and a back-up is nice to have when the DOT-man wants to see our papers.

4:15 You fill ‘SE’, or ‘ME’ in column 5 only if it’s a Single Pilot time. A320 is not a single pilot aircraft and therefore it’s not necessary to tick this box.

@dimitrovvassil
@dimitrovvassil 2 жыл бұрын
@@sunpalms5219 Hi, if a First Officer flies any leg on a Multi Pilot Aircraft, he/she must enter the name of the commander or instructor in the ‘PIC’ column. The only difference about being a Pilot Monitoring is that you don’t fill the number of takeoffs and landings, and this is regardless of your rank. It’s a good practice to add a remark whether you were PF or PM on the leg. I hope, I was able to answer your question.

Logbooks like these will run out of space faster if you fly short sectors. I used to fly 4-6 sectors a day and my logbook is full in just 2 years of flying. So I made one with more space for the route column where I can log all the flights for the whole day. Whether it is 4-6 sectors, i write them down for the whole single row only. Now I only used 10% of the logbook for 2 years of flying.

I didn't even know about the existence of computer/mobile flight log applications until you mentioned them. I just found mccPILOTLOG after a quick search and I am *totally* bookmarking their site to download later on when I can go to flight school again. :D I think what I'd do is keep both a paper log book and a digital log book. The paper log book would be something that I could easily fill out on the spot wherever I may be, and then I could copy that information into the digital log book, and use both to double-check the accuracy of my own records. And if the digital log book and all of its backups are ever lost, well... There's the paper backup that's been actively double-checked against the computer's more accurate records. Can just as easily re-enter all of that information. It'd take time and would be a pain in the butt, but it's better than solely relying upon one or the other, no?

As far as I know, a pilots logbook is a very firm legal document. I have a friend who was accused of a crime and his pilots logbook exonerated him. It showed him actually in the air with another pilot at the time the incident occurred. It turned out the actual perp had the same name but was spelled differently, but the cops didn't know that and picked him up. Now, he could have explained it in other ways, but the logbook was instant off the hook.

As a software engineer I can tell you that having a digital copy of your logbook is much safer, you can lose your physical logbook somewhere, but you can never kill a cloud service with a good architecture, that stores your data on many data centers around the world. Plus you can print out the digital copy from time to time and turn it into a physical copy.

Paper can be lost or damaged too, always have redundancy. For something this important three copies in different locations and manually synchronize each of them once per week. For digital an automatic backup should not be set to touch all copies, if A is erased or corrupted you do not want it automatically over writing B and C with bad data and if the sync from A to B is corrupted you want C untouched. At least one of them should be held offline and fully copied to new media once per year to avoid bit rot issues. In short for paper or digital verify B is synced and safely stored before moving to C, and keep B and C separate at all times and not in the same building because of fire, flood, robbery....

In column 5, you only have to mark the SE or ME with a check mark as per the example if the airplane is certified for single pilot operation. If you're filling up an entry for an a320 flight, you DO NOT have to mark the multi-engine checkbox. You can see that clearly in the book's instructions, where there's an entry for a flight made on a 747. Also, in a multi crew airplane, you only have to mark the take offs and landings that you made when acting as PF. Take offs and landings when acting as PM are not marked. Not making it up. It's all right there on the instructions found on the very logbook.

Question thats is killing me, in brazil our models of logbooks are organizaed with page number and lines organized in line one line two and so on. At the end, companies and flight school write, “page X and X lines 1 to 6” for example, and sign, and stamp, righ next to it. How do you get stamps and signatures from operators, airplane owners and flight schools?

What if you do a 3 leg cross country, how do you split the entries for the original departure, the two arrival, and again the origin airport?
