How Do You Find Business Sellers?

A huge problem I'm seeing (and point me in the right direction if it's untrue) is that your only option is going in to the businesses directly to hopefully speak with the owner. Small business associations, networking events, groups and even extending out to masterminds and the like, they all require you to already be a small business owner. I've already been told by most of the organizations in my area that, in different words, I'm not really welcome to attend. Do you have any alternative suggestions? Or if direct communication really is the only way, a guide to help facilitate navigating that mine field?

Hi Dave, has anyone ever created a platform that lists potential business buyers? I assume a broker with specific interest in representing the buyers market, might have tried the idea of profiling and "listing" prequalified buyers (perhaps more like keeping a database, than publicly advertising them), and openly advertising the opportunity to potential sellers, including directly contacting them. If you knew about any of such practice, was it successful? Or what do you think? I would like to see a video from you addressing this.

I have several business brokers that call me for advice via www.clarity.fm/davidbarnett but I don't have any specific education programs for them. There are others out there like Busienss Brokerage Press which cater to people in the profession. Brokers advertise, network, and spend lots of time and money just getting out and talking to groups and business owners in order to get a chance to list the business one day. I even advertised on the radio when I had my brokerage going.

I'd check with a lawyer or the land registry. Depends on where you are but land ownership is usually public.
