How do you land this jet? E-flite Habu 50mm maiden flight

I've wanted this jet since it was announced, I finally got it, then it sat in the box for 6 months 😄
I really wanted the E-flite Habu 50mm because it's small yet it has a functional rudder and landing gear, that most jets in this size don't.
The maiden was interesting, but check it out yourself.

Landings are tricky on the baby habu. When I had mine what I found worked best was a shallow approach because when these little guys gain speed, they KEEP it. And then of course hold it back till it settles onto the ground. Nice vid!

I have no experience or interests with EDF Jets but you had a very good Maiden Take Off with this EDF Habu. Got to admire those RC Pilots who like to fly High Speed. Congratulations Alex on your maiden flight with your new EDF Jet and Happy RC Flying 😊💯🛩👍

Thanks! Yes, the take off was good, landing is a bit tricky. As far as jets go I think this is one of the slower flying ones, in general I prefer planes with a wide flight envelope.

Well flown, Alex. I'm sure I've seen these models 'bounce one on' when landing on a hard surface, so it's not anything you're doing wrong. The take off was perfect!

Thank you Gina! I was looking at it now, I might need to turn off SAFE for landing, looks like it was pushing it up a bit when it wanted to drop. Tricycle gear is so complicated, I'm a tail dragger guy 😄

Thanks! Yeah, I like how it sounds, just got to get a bit used to it and I'll be comfortable to fly it lower and closer to me.

One option, which I like doing, is throwing on thrust reverse rather than flaring or at the time you would flare. Reverse as you may have noticed is very ineffective, and will not cause a crash, it will just negate that twitchy flare and ground effect

Hmm, I thought of that but was not sure if it would help. I might need to move the reverse on a switch then rather than that button. Thanks for watching and for the advice!

The 50mm Habu is the easiest to fly EDF of any I've flown so far (and in the interest of full disclosure, I haven't flown that many). It has a fairly wide flight envelope, and doesn't need to be kept at near full throttle to fly well. It also seems to be rather forgiving of less than pretty landings. I even bought a second canopy and modded it to hold an FPV camera. Hopefully, you've gotten more flights in with it, and are having a lot of fun with it!

It is easy to fly, no doubt, just can't get a good landing with it so far. I haven't had time or energy to fix it yet, but I will get it done and try again for sure.

We have very similar taste in birds! My 50mm Habu is also waiting its maiden for months... Need to find a good place to fly! Nice maiden you did!

Thanks! It's great in the air, not hard at all to fly, but as you saw landing can be tricky. If you can hand launch or have someone do it for you it might be even better without landing gear. Hope you film your maiden, really curious how you like it.

If it makes you feel any better, your landing looked just like my maiden landing with this bird!😂 I think everyone bounces it in their first time.

Nice maiden flight, maybe a longer approach on landings where you can adjust throttle for the perfect glide slope...jeff..uk.

Thanks! Good advice, I try to get out as far as I can but it's different from my usual prop planes. That's why I got it, to learn as much as I can.

Oh boy ...im almost done buildind a 70mm (my second try at making a jet) and this video really making me nervous....happy flying to my friend and better landings.......in my opinion let the plane glide down and at the last second give some down elevator thats how i land ...of course small planes are not easy to land

Don't worry, it will be fine, especially if you have a wide runway. I will keep practicing, I have to get this right but I heard this Habu likes to glide.

Honestly, under a lil power, and damn near stall/tail strike lol those gear are bouncy as hell

Hey Hey congratulations on your maiden flight. Bouncy Bouncy landings all over You Tube on this plane How ever @6:30 into this video was something that help my landing be less bouncy with the 50mm Habu SS kzbin.info/www/bejne/lXyslpSshLlonK8 This is Jeff In Lower Alabama's what he did to ace his landing. It works 75% of the time if you have some air speed. Motor on landings fair better than motor off. Hope this helps you as well Alex. Good Video. Enjoyed watching as always.

Thanks for the advice! I know in theory it's better to land with power, and I was trying to just fly it down without forcing it, it's a bit counter intuitive. But I 'm sure as I get more comfortable with it I will get better landings. Thanks for watching!
