Thank Goodness for the RNLI ❤️ So happy that they got poor Bobby out of the mud. There are a herd of wild horses near where I live and they often wonder onto the mud flats. The local fire dept and RNLI quite regularly dig them out but many have drowned over the yrs if they are not seen. Others have had to be euthanised when the rescuers attempts have been thwarted by the tide. It breaks my heart. The RNLI are such a huge necessity for the UK. God bless them. 🙏🏻😇

Yes! These people did so well especially considering they had never dealt with a horse before. They kept the vehicle away to not spook it. Talked to it. We're as gentle as they could be in the situation. All in all quite incredible. Kudos to these people. The one thing they could have possibly done better is to have his rider with him. From experience I know that when a horse is in a stressful,painful,scary situation it helps them when they have someone they know and trust with them. Also maybe the rider could have got him some hay since they eat a lot

Put 44 gallon drums strapped on either side and a inflated car tube around his neck. Then if tide rises the drums will become buoyant lifting the horse out of mud and the car tube surrounding the head and neck will support it when floated. Tie a bow line knot around horses neck threaded through the car tube then attach the rope to the hovercraft tow slowly to the shoreline. This method use if horse still stuck and tide is coming in
@molybdomancer1954 жыл бұрын

There needs to be seminars teaching firemen how to harness and rescue horse stuck in the bizarre places they get stuck. A vet could be on hand to help. Here I would pull the horse sideways big straps around belly also head support. You might think a horses hind is heaviest but that neck and head and forehand weigh more, usually.

Simple, immobilise his legs and attach a safe pulley system that lifts him out and pulls him toward the towing vehicle safely. At the same time as you back the towing vehicle, make sure everyone's digging around the horses feet/body to aid him getting free of the mud.
@reeepingk5 жыл бұрын
Horses are not meant to support their weight on their abdomen. It blocks a lot of blood flow and makes it very difficult to breathe. Literally dragging a horse would be an awful idea, and I didn't really see any towing vehicles. I doubt anything would have much grip on that surface. Also, just because we can setup a pulley system to pull the horse out does not mean the horse's body can withstand the pressure of the straps without serious injury. Suction is an extremely powerful force, and immensely more so for such a large animal. My guess is you'd rip a limb out of its socket and/or rip a strap through the horse before you pulled it out of the mud with sheer force alone. Animals aren't cars, they're fragile.
@nevillemason67914 жыл бұрын
I know this beach. What makes you think that a towing vehicle can be safely moved in areas of mud that wont even support a man's weight? All that was needed to speed up the rescue were more of the large mats that eventually got the horse freed. These fire service mats are also used in rescues where people fall through thin ice on lakes, canals, etc. (assuming it's ever again cold enough in the UK to freeze that much with global warming!)

I'm surprised it took them so long to consider the boards vs digging the horse out. Maybe it's because I've been in deep mud and deep snow or heck, even a ball pit but it's the most effective way to do it. Works with mud, powdery snow, tin ice, gravel, corn in a silo etc I'm surprised they didn't just try to drag him out over the mud on his side until they were on more solid ground

I wonder if the Queen's passing will affect y'all's culture of service. Not just the RNLI particularly, but across y'all volunteer organizations and through other core institutions like NHS. Will there ever live again such a guiding light of selfless service as QE II during her reign? The US has a lot of volunteer organizations, but I don't think I know of any group like the RNLI. Y'all's commitment to King, Kith, and Kin is deeply ingrained, certainly. I can't help but think some change or unraveling will follow such a significant loss.
