As of 2024, Instagram does not offer a built-in timer feature within its camera for taking photos or recording videos directly in the app. However, there are some workarounds you can use to achieve a similar effect:
1. Using Your Phone’s Camera Timer
Open Your Phone’s Camera App: Most smartphones have a built-in timer feature in the camera app.
Set the Timer: Set the timer to your desired countdown (usually 3, 5, or 10 seconds).
Take the Photo/Video: Position your phone, start the timer, and get into position.
Upload to Instagram: After capturing your photo or video, open Instagram and upload it from your camera roll.
2. Using Third-Party Apps
Download a Third-Party Camera App: There are several camera apps available that include a timer feature. Some popular ones include Camera+ (iOS) or Open Camera (Android).
Set the Timer and Capture: Use the app to set a timer and capture your photo or video.
Upload to Instagram: Once you've taken the photo or video, open Instagram and upload it.
3. Using Instagram’s Hands-Free Feature for Videos
Open Instagram Camera: Swipe right from your feed or tap the "+" icon and select "Story" to open the Instagram camera.
Select the Hands-Free Option: At the bottom of the screen, swipe through the camera modes and select "Hands-Free."
Start Recording: Tap the record button, and Instagram will start recording without you having to hold the button down.
Stop Recording: Tap the button again to stop recording. This is useful for videos but doesn’t set a countdown timer.
4. Use Boomerang Mode
Open Instagram Camera: Open Instagram and swipe right to access the camera.
Select Boomerang: Choose "Boomerang" from the options at the bottom.
Record: Tap and hold the record button to create a quick looping video. While this doesn’t have a timer, it’s a fun way to create content without holding the button down.
These methods allow you to work around the absence of a native timer feature in the Instagram camera.
