It's probably quite embarrassing that I made this. Also, for some ungodly reason, I refer to the DT Max's biography as 'Every Love Story is A Ghost Story', when the title is 'Every Ghost Story is a Love Story'. It's unforgivable.

This is so well-researched! I can tell you've done your diligence reviewing his work and the various biographies and interviews that are out there. I found this really insightful.

How does one solve the following problems DFW faced: the battle/denial with one's true self that relishes in the joys of entertainment and television, the lonliness of writing alone, the burden of becoming the inheritor of Hemingway/Faulkner's mantle, expectation of writing the Next Great American Novel, the boredom of writing about tennis - a sport he outgrew in his maturity - and the constant accusations of misogyny because he had a toxic relationship with a fellow addict/famous writer? One fakes their death and becomes one of the two writers known as James S.A. Corey and together writes perhaps the best books series /television shows of all time.

I love watching DFW videos on YT however when I try to read his fiction, it hurts. I suppose because I value minimalism so much, my brain rejects his maximalist style. Maybe one day I'll get it. Thanks for making such a detailed video!

i keep wondering what david foster wallace would have thought of byung-chul han's philosophy. i still cannot understand how a father with a living child can kill himself; no matter how tortured he is.

I would be interested in your thoughts on the mentioned Whedonian dialogue in Marvel, or any other literary analysis of very popular media. I think a lot of the writing is shite but not sure why and I’m sure you could construct a better critique than I can.

It' something I'd like to talk about more and will try and put into a video once I find the time (and patience) to watch the marvel movies again, but specifically I think Whedon has a writing style that suits him and the stories he writes, while a lot of the movies after The Avengers (and as a consequence a lot of other Disney products as well) try to employ that style but don't adapt it to suit an individual character. And actually, writing this comment, I think I already have an idea of how I'd write that video...

Most people aren't great. You could take anybody's life. Find something bad or evil, and focus on that and drown out anything good they ever did. Was DFW perfect, no, but I do think he brought something good and true into the world.

Gately makes the decision to defend Randy Lenz who is doubtless the most worthless hunk of meat in the unit but for his elevated timing. Young pseudo intellectual feminists who work in bookstores would do well to remember that the immortal efforts of dead men oft do linger on the purse strings

The only reason that section in the video isn't longer is because my memory of the novel wasn't quite accurate enough in the detail, so the synopsis is a little too simplified, you're right though
