Great channel! With the outer sleeves, having the opening on the side can be a life saver---if you ever have a pipe leak in the floor above you (like I did once), you'll be glad the openings were on the side. I did it both ways for a while on my albums. When the ceiling above me flooded through, the records I had with upward facing openings were sitting in their own bag of water! I literally cried.... But the albums with the opening on the sides were completely dry.

That’s terrible. I’m not a cryer by any means, but if that happened to me, it’s possible I might. I think I’m going to change the direction of all of my records in their outer sleeves lol. I keep mine in an old milk crate from the 40s, and because I’m blind, I stuck braille labels on the inner sleeves I keep the disks in. Having the album jacket open at the top of the outer sleeve means I can just reach in, pull the disk containing inner sleeve out of the top of the jacket and read the label with my fingers. Keeping the jacket opening and outer sleeve opening lined up is really just for convenience sake on my part, but if I ever have a leak in my roof above where I keep those records, I won’t be happy. Searching through them will be tougher, but I’d rather it take longer for me to find a record then to have waterlogged LPs

I store some of my records on the lower shelf of my computer and my high dollar records are in a high quality Odessey brand record crate. I keep several of those little packets that absorb moisture inside. Well over half my records are in Mofi sleeves and album jackets are in clear sleeves. I handle my records carefully and with clean hands.

Hi Miguel, you mean clean a new record? I use the vacuum machine. If a dirty used record, ProJect vacuum, then ultrasonic

great video. i store my records the same way. i bought some rare mint estate records (rare mint harold land - the original the fox on hi-fi jazz with dupree bolton with the painted cover of a fox. this collector was serious. he used a poly lined heavy paper sleeve which he placed in a black cardboard outer sleeve (with a window so you could see the label) and then put the original album cover in a japanese resealable outer sleeve and placed the record behind the original cover!... yikes!

WOW great info on the sleeve shrinkage. I would sit there for extended periods of time trying to carefully slide the inner sleeves in, looking everywhere for what could be holding them up, this explains it! I even went as far as taking a flashlight to the inside of the jackets to see what was going on! Thank goodness I never forced the issue, just accepted that I couldn't figure it out and stored the sleeve/records on the outside! Thanks again!

Hi, I have a question about your storing tip, does this way of storing the vinyl behind the jacket cause ringwear on the backside of the jacket? I am still doubting to store all my records outside the jacket or inside the jacket. Please help me out vinylcommunity! :-)

I was wondering, I own a couple of 19 20's victrola and the storage inside makes you store it horizontally. Why did they stack it that way years ago?

I'd assume because shellac is less prone to warping than vinyl, it was considered ok?

Clean or store? Never thought of those wipes before. I use Fantastic with Bounty Towels for the sleeves. VPI for discs. Each sleeve covered in a mylar or plastic sleeve (unlike Fremer's). For storing, to prevent against any kind of warping, I separate every 5 to 7 LPs with a piece of cardboard. Probably excessive, but ... I didn't know that about sleeves shrinking. Very rarely I'll have a disc (in liner) that won't easily slide into the sleeve. Also, while I'll save original paper liners with label ads inside the sleeve, I don't put discs in those sleeves, I put them in a plastic or rice paper lined sleeve. Those square sleeves can fold on the corners which can scuff the disc. And while a decent record box like your Ikeas can hold up to 150-200 LPs, I never store more than 125. Too many LPs can result in warping and unless your house is climate controlled, summer heat can cause discs to develop a heat radiation imprint on the disc. Finally, I don't like those price stickers that used record stores put on sleeves. A couple drops of lighter fluid (let it set for a minute) and a fingernail can remove them. Then follow with a wipe or Fantastic for final clean and your sleeve is, as Archie Bunker would say, "Cherce."
