Great episode, I love the energy between you three. Delighted hear that all future episodes will be on you KZbin as it's definitely my preferred way to enjoy the podcast, although I have to admit until a few weeks ago I didn't realise I was only getting half of the episodes so I'm now listening to ones I've missed while I'm at work to help the day pass quicker. Rick may be surprised the Sarah got a first, personally I'm more surprised that Sarah was a Big Stone given how quick she is 😲 (From Dundee, Scotland)

4:32 OMS , I'm Team Sarah, obviously! I both watch and listen. The visual interaction between Andy Scratchhead, Sarah Smugsmile and Rick Buttonpusher is hilarious! As a non-native speaker I sometimes don't get every detail, particularly when everyone is speaking lively at once or too fast for me. That's not bad, please don't change! Rewind and slow-down buttons do exist on Spotify for a reason, and I do love the subtitles on KZbin, improving my English bit by bit by Bri'ish banter X-D

You guys are awesome. So fun. I’m a mum of 7 and my eldest son occasionally goes out running early hours of morning. It’s something that we as women could not do. We should be safe , but reality is we have to think about things differently. Where we park a car if it’s going to be dark or late when we come back to it. If I’m running on a quiet road , I am automatically more alert. I don’t let it stop me though. As to interesting people. The two lads (brothers ?) running across Australia. Then there is an American chap who was on the Mark Lewis pod cast , who lost a huge amount of weight, and running was instrumental. So inspirational. He was American.

16wks training is required. So coming back from injury with peak weekly kms of 27km for the whole week with my longest run of 9km and doing Tokyo in a week is not ideal. Can’t believe 1 weeks training is not recommended. 😅

I look at doing half marathons (or even 70.3 Ironmans) getting to the start line ready to go you've already won. The event is more of a celebration of all the work. The hard part of events like marathons etc.. is you can't do everything right and on that one day things like bad weather, covid cancellations (covid era), or even just a bad timing of even a slight illness and not getting to reap the rewards.

Is it possible for a newbie runner kicking 60 with a degree of fitness to train for a marathon in 16 weeks, or is that too much to consider?
@matthewcreelman13477 ай бұрын
For sure, you can definitely finish a marathon. Can you run it in a specific time? That’s a different matter.
@cannuckchick75227 ай бұрын
I would say that may be a bit of a stretch unless your current fitness has been gained with quite a lot of time on feet (walking or hiking) only because building weekly mileage can be somewhat punishing, especially as we near (or have passed) 60. If you’re going to attempt it, I strongly urge pursuing run-walk (8 and 2 or 9 and 1) as that approach really does slower the stress on the body.
@stephenhawe43317 ай бұрын
@@cannuckchick7522 I’ve just taken a look at the marathon training plan from This Messy Happy and it looks a bit daunting tbh. I’m currently doing 4 or 5 miles twice a week but still may not be enough. Think I’ll start training now for next year 😂
@CaptainBrash7 ай бұрын
You might be fine, if your base fitness is ok and you aren't injury prone then maybe. You probably want to do at least 5 weeks beforehand to train for the marathon training, that's still basically assuming everything goes perfectly. Lots of people blow up trying to do a couch to marathon.

When running with a wrist heart monitor I find them inaccurate. Has anyone tried wearing the watch underneath the wrist so it can’t read the heart rate better? Maybe a test for someone.
@CaptainBrash7 ай бұрын
I think all the algorithms to convert the capillary dilation detected through light assume the top of the wrist so I don't think it would be more accurate. The main problem isn't the accuracy though, it's the delay. The accuracy of the good ones isn't too bad but it's when you think you are skipping along at 150bpm then it suddenly spikes to 180.
