A sand filter works by passing water through a bed of special sand that traps dirt and debris. As the water flows from the top, it moves through the sand particles, which filter out impurities like leaves, hair, and fine particles. Clean water then exits from the bottom and is returned to the pool. Over time, the sand filter can get clogged, so it needs to be backwashed, reversing the water flow to clean out the trapped debris. This process ensures consistent filtration and maintains water clarity.
