See how the valve insert (thermostatic valve) with pre-setting in the central heating radiator works. The insert plays a very important role in the radiator, because it allows you to block the water flow through the radiator or to precisely set the amount of water flowing through the radiator by means of a presetting.
It should be remembered that the initial setting should be adjusted by the designer of the installation according to the calculations of various data, e.g. radiator power, room volume, water flow rate in the installation, etc. Independent adjustments may only take place in own central heating installations, where the heating boiler, pipes, radiators are ours and we will not limit the heat to others, for example in a multi-family building, by our regulations.
It is worth remembering carefully, saving the previous setting on the valve, so that in the event of disrupting your installation, you can restore the presetting settings to the same as they were before.
Adjustment by means of a pre-setting in the insert allows you to set the heating power of the radiator so that the room does not overheat, but importantly, it allows you to hydraulically balance the entire central heating system, thanks to which hot water will flow even to the farthest radiator, thanks to which the last radiator will also heat efficiently .
Simply put, if we have 3 radiators from the heating boiler in one run, it is worth setting a lower setting on the first radiator from the boiler, e.g. 2-3, because the hottest water will flow to the radiator, so a higher setting may waste heat from the water in too much. The next radiator should be set e.g. to 3-4, and the last to 4 or 5.
Such a simple, non-computational explanation is supposed to help you understand what this encroachment is about.
The most important thing is to be able to distribute all the heat supplied by water to each radiator, so we have to "skim", i.e. reduce the consumption of hot water by the radiators closest to the boiler, so that all heat is distributed to all radiators, so that even and balanced hydraulically, heated, that is, the efficiency of each was at the required level ..
Lack of pre-regulation, i.e. setting the maximum flow or not using the valve insert, will cause the first radiator to heat very strongly, the second - less, and the third - very little.
In the past, instead of a thermostatic valve (valve insert), a limitation of the water flow on the ball valve supplying water to the radiator was used, i.e. the flow was set aside or a coin was inserted between the radiator's flare nut and the central heating installation branch (pipe). hot water supply. These methods were unreliable and often generated additional noise or a hum that was not very pleasant.
NOTE: If you live in a multi-family block and there is central heating in the building, you are not allowed to change the settings on the thermostatic valve or valve insert without the appropriate consent of the building administrator or technical department. Any repairs, adjustments or changes can only be made by the owner, who usually has his maintenance technician, technical department or service technician who knows the building, knows the central heating installation and knows how even the smallest change to one radiator can affect other radiators at neighbors.
It is safest to always call the service or central heating service company, if you are not sure, knowledge and experience in plumbing work. Regulations during the heating and winter season carry the risk that if you break something, you may be left without heating until it is repaired. Hence, during this period, limit all repairs and changes to the necessary minimum.
