How does aerial firefighting work?

Since the beginning of June 2020, Saab is supplying Aerial Firefighting services to the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) to strengthen Sweden’s and Northern Europe’s ability to fight forest fires. My 30 years as a wildfire crew, air tractor ariel fire bombers have proven a essential asset in fire supression and life saving for ground crews in the event of a burnover incident. These pilots are hero's and dont get the reconition they deserve, they have saved my bacon and other freinds countless times. Thankyou to all the areil fire fighting organisations, engineers, ground crews and pilots for their commitment and watching over fire crews, I will always make room for them at my table.

Came here to understand better. We had a tragedy in Portugal, where brave pilot Andre Santos died fighting a fire in one of these fire bosses. Looks extremely challenging, great video. My condolences to the portuguese family of Andre. Keep safe, brave pilots.

Excellent article. However, you did not mention the possibility of using environmentally friendly foam as a fire suppression enhancer. Otherwise, an excellent plane. It allows for a quick response to the outbreak of fires. I enjoy flying it👍💪

Saab has set up an aerial fire fighting operation, complete with aircraft, pilots and maintenance organisation and won a tender from the Swedish civil contingencies agency to supply aerial fire fighting services for the upcoming years.

@@jorgenericsson1098 Thank You! Saab is a great company, and it's good to see the company is stepping up to help its country (Sweden) during its big forest fire seasons. Here in the US it is very, very rare for a major defense contractor (e.g. Boeing or Lockheed-Martin) to do any work outside their normal everyday "box", and then it 99/100 times is to work on other governmental contracts that are almost always defense related in some fashion.

@@macsdaddy3383 The firefighting airplane operation is outside of most "boxes" in Sweden. There is paperwork to be an aircraft operator, delivering services to the state has its own requirements and everything had to be on a tight schedule. SAAB had the paperwork in place already and are used to deliver to the Swedish government. So SAAB's box was basically the best fit available. I assume that they then contacted the whole package (aircraft, pilots and maybe maintenance crew) from some other company.

@@ViktorBengtsson You are correct in that there is a lot of paperwork involved in government contracts, and that our experience in bidding for them was an advantage. We have however not contracted anything from an external source but built up the operation from scratch using the pilots and organisation from our target towing business, bought the planes and hired experienced professionals such as Eder to quickly reach operational status.
