I think the poles are labeled incorrectly, as typically a N pole should have magnetic flux lines going outward and inward for the S pole (the flux line arrows appear correct based upon the DC flow through the rotor coils). And the current should be maximum when a rotor pole is directly across from a stator winding, not when the winding is in between the poles. Then use "Flemings right-hand rule for generators" to get the direction of the current. As best I can tell the current directional arrows might also be backwards, but it's hard to tell with the current shown as zero at the incorrect time. Otherwise it's a pretty nice animation.

Nice video. I believe that, if you view 01:28 of the video, the rotating field has poles at 9 o'clock labelled as "NORTH" and 12 o'clock labelled "SOUTH", but the winding direction is the same viewing the pole face: this seems to be a contradiction of the right-hand-rule; the winding directions should be opposite on the adjacent poles.

symptom for alternator failure battery charge gets down probably firstly a service or battery signal arrives in the dashboard cluster finally cars get off if it is an electronic injection. check out if abnormal sound coming, if bearing, if not check the mounting and belt tension and then finally check the terminal connections after inspecting the above you please start your car and check the voltage with the multi meter if the voltage is in the range of 11 to 12v for five minute interval, then your alternator is working other wise please visit the nearest dealer.
@JL-ld1do

in most cases the brushes get worn down and stop giving the needed voltage to excite the field. Nowadays folks tend to just replace the alternator thinking if the brushes are worn the bearings are probably next. Soooo, the market has favored that and alternator brushes are not available for every version in the field. I tend to disagree. If you can find brushes for your alternator then inspect yours. If the brushes look un-even, or are pitted, and look like they have been burnt replace them. Its a pretty simple process on most vehicles. Take the opportunity to clean the slip rings with a commutator stone too... It will most likely get you charging again!

If permanent magnets used for 3phase generator like this shown the voltage in the rotor field is then non adjustable ...so voltage regulator job lot harder and additionally this generators are gigantic would require very big permanent magnets .Permanent magnets have constant field production this would be very difficult to handle as well expensive.

The DC generator supplied the DC current that is converted to AC. The motive force for the system is provided by an outside source. The alternator in your car, for example, gets its motive force from the alternator belt attached to the drive shaft of the car's engine. It's not clearly explained in this video.
@danireula8645
@danireula8645 7 жыл бұрын
Something like that, anyway you need an external mechanic work to really generate electricity. You can also see this kind of electric machines with permanent magnets such as the brushless motors, instead of the rotating coils. These machines are also used as constant RPM motors, when you have variating loads Ex. an elevator. Also in the past they used this machine as a cos fi corrector due to it can act as an inductive load, as any other motor, or a capacitive load. Instead of using banks of capacitors. Anyway the rotor coils use like a 1% of the electricity that consumes or generates the machine. These datasheets are studied in every single motor and there exists a lot of maths to determine the parameters.

@Lesics
@Lesics 10 жыл бұрын
It is well possible to use permanent magnets. Small alternators usually run with it.
@lindakurniawati5249
@lindakurniawati5249 10 жыл бұрын
one of the disadvantages of using permanent magnet is the magnetic field relatively constant, isn't it?
@BrianSu
@BrianSu 10 жыл бұрын
Linda Kurniawati yes but that doesn't matter because the amount of drag on the rotor will always commensurate with the load (electrical resistance) on the coils so the more current you drain the higher the drag and vice versa.
@TheSoxmania
@TheSoxmania 10 жыл бұрын
because then it would be a dynamo XD
@BrianSu
@BrianSu 10 жыл бұрын
TheSoxmania nope because you will still have magnets swiping across the 3 pick up coils. As a magnet nears a coil it produces electricity in one polarity and does the same and it moves away. A dynamo is made by rotating the coils within a permanent magnet field, the rotor's interface will be brushes instead of slip rings.

Engine peak rpm is around 8000 and with the pulley ratio of 3:1 the rpm at the alternator becomes about 24000. So if I am not wrong such low rpm range ac generators are not used in an automotive industry. What kind of an alternator have you considered in the video? and where are they used?

someone can tell me why magnetic field comes out from south pole and comes in to north pole? Isn't it on the contrary?

Alternator is a misnomer, it is an electrical generator. End of story.

I don't think so. As the produced emf by AC generator is of alternative nature (i.e, the curve of produced emf alternates in a certain period of time), it is called as Alternator. So, it's not a misnomer.
