Jared, thanks! Great job! Would you please also consider modeling hi speed travelator. It's a moving walkway in which each segment has two parts that can expand. It slows down gradually at the beginning and at the end so people can get on and off, but the speed at the middle is always fast! In a subway station's their speed's don't match *ON PURPOSE* . For example, if u moving upstairs, handrail will be *faster* , than steps rail -> you'll be forced to _lean forward_ (if u hold on to it) -> you, most likely _do not fall_ on your back, even if u fall asleep. Same principle on going downstairs...

I'm not sure about escalators in US, but here in Europe, the handrail moves slightly faster than the stairs. This is intentional, because it keeps you aware of your surroundings and thus keeps you awake. If you fell asleep on the escalators, you might end up in hospital after a rather curious accident.

Actually most escalators (that I used anyway) will have the handrail moving a bit faster than the steps. I looked it up and one reason I found has to do with wear, over time reducing the handrail speed. So this way, they get a better service life out of it. Another reason I found is safety. It would actually go faster on escalators going up, and slower on ones going down (which I think is also what I’ve seen). If someone who counts on the handrail for balance falls, they’d fall on the escalator upwards. I think my father (who was a maintenance technician in a large department store) actually mentioned the safety reason to me.

@Leffker5 жыл бұрын
@@falcy2889 Why would it be dumb? You save a whole escalator by making it move in both directions and it turns off, when it is not in use, so it saves a lot of energy during less busier times. It is not used in highly frequented areas, but only where it makes sence.
@falcy28895 жыл бұрын
Leffker you know if there are so little people there that the escalator can be turned off and changed direction then it’s unnecessary. Regular stairs would be much more efficient Escalators are used for moving large amount of people in one direction and ensure faster transportation.

I am glad when you show something like the escalator working that you don't start with mining the metal, smelting, pouring, etc. You get right to the lead. So few do that! Especially recipes. They have to tell the lineage of their grandmother before they can get to the recipe and ingredients.

There were two really long escalators on the USS Kitty Hawk aircraft carrier when I was stationed on board. They went from the deck under the hangar bay all the way up to the deck under the flight deck (through four decks) and were designed back in the late 50s to carry pilots directly from their ready-rooms up to the flight deck. They were never activated while I was there, but everyone used them as a shortcut and under a heavy enough load, they could begin to slowly descend causing everyone to walk against them.
