Some progestogen-only pills (also known as a PoP or the mini pill) contain the active ingredient desogestrel. Contraceptive pills which contain desogestrel help to prevent pregnancy primarily by helping to prevent ovulation (egg release) which means sperm have nothing to fertilise. In this film, a *General Practitioner explains more about how Desogestrel works, which includes altering cervical mucus to make it more difficult for sperm to travel to the uterus.
