You won’t see crazy patriotic celebrations in Finland except when we win hockey world championship. All other times we tend to celebrate in our own introverted spaces.

😆😆 I know it’s so embarrassing! I’ll have to admit it was a lot warmer than we were expecting, the week before was quite a bit chillier so we brought warmer clothes then spent a lot of time carrying them around haha Now we are back in Texas with highs of 38😭🥵 Imagine how we’d be in the winter!😄

1:50 & 11:30 - Since it was June the 12:th when you were in Helsinki, every possible family and all of the people that could be in the countryside at their cottages or anywhere else but in Helsinki at that time, would be away, if possible! 😄❤ - Because: it's the first Summer holiday month! 😎July is even quieter in Helsinki (and every bigger cities in Finland) than June. August a little bit busier, again. But that, too, is still the holiday month for many ppl. ☺ See, the School's have their holidays from the beginning of June all the way through July and at least half of August! 🤗 So only the ppl that don't have their Summer holidays from their work, were there. On the other hand, almost everyone of those ppl (who weren't out of the town) were out on the streets and parks of Helsinki, I assume - chilling on that beautiful, sunny day of celebration and happenings! 😅

I have lived in Helsinki my whole life of 33yrs and have never heard that on Helsinki day they crown man and woman of the Helsinki. I think every event happening on the small stage in Espa-park are only attended by few elders and fins that are visiting helsinki from somewhere else and just happen to be there.

Those two churches aren't the most impressive ones. Don't get me wrong: they look great from the outside. But especially the cathedral is a let-down from the inside. Its grey and dark. By far the prettiest "blows your socks away" church is the rock church (Temppeliaukion kirkko). It's carved into rock. It got too flooded with tourists so it nowadays takes an entrance fee, but it's well worth it. Happiest country is misleading, because the data tells about the quality of life and safeguards. It's more about being content than being/feeling happy. They just don't want to change the name of the report because it's sells better.

i always find it strange that americans feel the need to add syllables to words where they don´t exist. if an american would never had run into how "new york" was pronounced they could pronounce it "ne-hew yo-ho-horkuye"
@moonliteX
@moonliteX 7 ай бұрын
i´ve watched lots of travel vlogs from finland. i think one pronounce Turku (tor-kuy maybe?) as "theur-kueyeh" ... like where do those extra syllibles and letters come from? ok that was just letters but syllibles are actually more usual for amercans to add. just don´t remember specific examples. they especially use syllibles that repeat the previous syllible.

Finns need personal space :) But still friendly in my opinion, the good old mutual trust is still there. The Finnish flag is a bit problematic these days, unfortunately it has been hijacked by hard core nationalists, personally I am careful where I use it, only in sports events basically.
