My experience of passport application process in US: I went to city office for my daughter's passport application. I only needed to bring birth certificate and photos. I got 2 page application in the office. I filled it there and submitted it in 15 minutes. One person verified documents and application and took care of payment. Whole process took 30 mins and we got passport in 2 weeks.

In India I have applied for passport online submitted print 5 min for verification next day police verification passport delivery by post at 6 day if u have proper documents then superfast delivery of passport

I couldn't agree more. I had a similar experience during my first week in the US. I was casually strolling near my apartment and soon lost my way. As I was walking past blocks with some frown on my face, I was approached by a policeman, who was patrolling on his vehicle nearby. As an Indian, my first reaction was that of dismay and worry seeing a policeman or a 'khaakhi wardi waala' ( obviously, his dress code was different). He parked his patrol vehicle, came out and has already understood that I had lost my way. He personally escorted me to my apartment, we had a casual talk along the way and returned only when I entered my main door. I bid him good bye and now I had every reason to believe that I have arrived in a very different and efficient system. Moreover, during first few weeks I could realize that I had to reset my whole system or way of doing things not because things were confusing and different but rather very very efficient, orderly as they should be.

I am not sure about other parts of India....but in Bangalore when I went for passport renewel (2017) entire process was very smooth and hassle free got it in 1 visit. (2-3hrs) and also got the parents passport renewel (in 2018) quit easily.....some have improved so well....still I cant say the same about obtaining Driving License.

On the contrary, if you are in Washington DC area you will see lots of Government vehicles but cars as officials over here tend to use their privately owned vehicles while on official duties and get reimbursed on mileage basis. Federal structure is different in U.S. It's a country with 50 autonomous states and every state has it's own penal code unlike India. India doesn't have autonomous states.

Perfect observation, specially example of passport and driving license. Other than addhar card, I had to give bribe for any of the document, including passport (police man to verify), driving license, rashan card, marriage certificate (even paid bribe, but after 10 months still waiting for that), and all.. but here in USA DL came up without single penny, registration of car, SSN etc came up without bribe or any special sifarish.

Very pertinent observations. I have witnessed steady decline in morals & efficiency in the last fifty years. Quality of administration inherited from British was world class. Corruption was minimal. With political interference & destructive reservation policies there is no scope or only a little scope for an honest bureaucrat to perform for public good. Maharashtra, one of the finest state at one time, successor of erstwhile Bombay presidency, has been destroyed by lethal combination of venal and corrupt politications & bureaucrats. Now the question is whether this can be reversed? I have doubts. With 135 crore population we might have crossed the tipping point.

The persons holding Govt Jobs (From Bureaucrats, IAS, IPS, etc to Peon, Clerks, Sweepers) should not have Job Security at all. Any job with Govt of India, State Govt, Govt Undertakings should automatically terminate after 5 years. This should be the norm for 90%, of the posts except like emergency services such as Armed Forces, Nuclear Scientist, Brian Surgeons etc
