H5 is based on Fastech360S, the latest model of 700 Series is N700S Considering the time of making this documentary, N700A was the latest model at that time (If earlier than 7Jan2020). Shinkansen systems of Tokyo-to-West and Tokyo-to-East are separated, also the train development due to different criteria.

Noone believes that, not even the "Conservative" people, the arguments are more about money, the government doesn't want to spend money on jackshit except what they think is important. Mostly because it would cost more money per mile than it does anywhere else in the world to build the infrastructure necessary.

@@Racko. The issue is the whole system. Politicians rather not pay for shit. The contractors who do the work are so expensive due to Unions (which I am not against but still) that it drives up the cost, and then you have the environmental comitties who start an uproar for the sake of some bacterial colony found at the site. America just is a bitch to do any kind of major project anymore. If anything does happen I will be in my 60s before I see any news about it.

I don't think they will make the latest documentary free. It showed the Chang'sha Maglev line that entered service in 2016, so sometime between 2016 and 2020.

Love your train videos which are very informative and interesting even to a confirmed train buff like myself. I've subscribed to the Spark Channel and look forward to many more intriguing documentaries on the subjects of railroads and advancing high speed passenger train technology. in the interests of accuracy I feel compelled to point out that "maglev" trains do not rely on "magnetic attraction" to suspend the vehicles vertically above the underlying surface, or to guide and center the train between the walls of the maglev channel horizontally as asserted in your narration. On the contrary, the property of "magnetic repulsion" is harnessed for those two essential functions necessary to both suspend and guide the train. Rapidly alternating magnetic attraction and repulsion are both used to push/pull the train by the principle of linear motor propulsion.

In US, they plied up the the number of locomotives to operate train to over 5 km in length wonder if the freight trains could maintain speed of 350 km per hour over long distances. Although China had experimented with such a unit with capacity of 1,500 tons equivalent to average weight of 100 TEUs which is about the capacity of most EU freight trains at the moment but incomparable to the freight trains that transverse the North America continent. At 350 kmph, it looks like air freight won't compete across the Eurasian landmass! What an impact to all those countries located within the landmass!!!

Speaking of Vancouver I think that the stock footage of the tunnel at 4:05 is the tunnel on the Evergreen extension of the Millennium Line in Vancouver. You can tell it's the skytrain because of the LIM magnet in the middle of the running rails & sound from the stock footage is the sound of the skytrain.

Japan is indeed very "experienced" in the high speed rail industry for many decades "experience" is calculated from the number of trips as well as the number of passengers carried during the operating period "experience" serves as the basis for the further improvement and development of technology it is undeniable that China is actively catching up with the "experience" of Japan even for a brief period due to the large high speed rail network in operation technology is not only limited to invention but also continuous improvement and development based on "experience" gained during operation you can't purposely exclude China in this regard because of political & ideological differences

CORRECTION: Longest freight train - 4km long, 375 wagons, hauling manganese ore from Sishen to Saldanha in South Africa - 860km, and this is a regular service, not a once off event to break records. Wikipedia way off on the facts here.

@@dundonrl r U sure? How fast do you think subway trains run? Most of the subway/metro/underground railways in the world run at a maximum speed of 60-80km/h. China has multiple lines that run at 120-160 km/h. For example the Guangzhou Metro Line 3 and Beijing Daxing Airport Line.

Maglev trains require complicated infrastructe. When a public could ride a maglev train in Hamburg in 1977, people with pacemakers and some other health issues were not allowed on board beacuse on the strong magnetic fields. I suppose this is still an unsolved issue,

You mean a pacemaker for heart conditions, my friend? Yes surely, the maglev system most likely has been engineered to not interfere with such biological devices implanted within people, who would likely also take such trains. Engineers work with health and medical experts throughout the wide variety of structures and systems and innovations they design and construct!

Unfortunately mostly true. While there are many commuter trains, the reality is trains that go any distance are more like romantic memories, plenty of people love them, but for others the trip isn't worth it. Want to go from San Francisco to New York, it'll take 3 and a half days by train versus about 7 hours by plane, and the cost is about the same. California has showed why high speed rail just won't work either, the people voted to approve it, and there was a plan in place, however lawsuits from people not wanting it have unfortunately cost well in excess what the cost of the train line (from San Francisco to LA roughly) was supposed to cost. Basically too many forces (i.e. people with more money than sense) pushing back against the idea.

Yeah they had one trainer that did 517 kph once but they were quickly out to Shame by the Chinese maglev doing well over 600 kph then again out done by the Japanese doing almost 700 kph so not any more sorry the Japanese have the most trains going fast carrying the most passengers than anywhere else on earth and have new trains in the world to go even faster by 2024

Separate rails are an idea of the French for the TGV, it is not a Japanese invention!

There not an invention at all. Japan had to build seperate tracks because they use a smaller rail gauge than normal on their normal trains and that smaller gauge isnt suitable for highspeeds so they had to build completely new tracks in standard gauge for their highspeed trains

I don't think that the MAGLEV is a train as it doesn't have wheels nor rails, if we do not count the MAGLEV, the TGV hold the record at 574.8 KM/H, I'm not patriotic but it is something that I musn't be alone to think. PS: I'm being very patriotic!
