As someone who does struggle with Anxiety and Self-Acceptance this film really did hit home for me, as well as the message of “Hey People are complicated, emotions and feelings are complicated, YOU are complicated and Yes acknowledging and never dismissing your best qualities is important but denying your flaws and more importantly NEVER owning up to them can be just as harmful and that none of your feelings and emotions should ever be suppressed and that we all do and say things we might not be proud of but we don’t need to repress those memories but learn from them.”

For me, the anxiety attack was actually quite traumatic for me. I was having an anxiety attack along with Riley and Anxiety herself. It was such an overly emotional and serious scene, the tears escaped my eyes. I was feeling numb all over my limbs while shaking a lot, my breathing was rapid and shallow, me not understanding what was happening on the big screen. In fact, the scene was so traumatic and scary to me, I was actually going to exit the theaters to give myself a break. But my mother, who was very understanding walked over and calmed me down slowly. When Joy was making Riley happier, I was genuinely feeling very emotional and happy. I was still crying like I was very sad. In the end, I was still slightly tearing up and sniffling. This scene never LEAVES my head. Anxiety in this film was planned for perfection in this film. Even my previous favorite, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, I agree with the Inside Out 2 panic attack being better. I have rewatched this movie four times at home, and I plan to give it a second rewatch in the theaters with my friends. I am very excited for that, and I am so happy that Pixar made this movie into the way it is.

I loved that they added the concept of the Sense of Self in Inside out 2, the Belief System was the most beautiful part of Riley's mind, Pixar really outdid itself. The part of the beliefs that shape our self felt profound, plus every time someone touched the strings, Riley's own voice could be heard. Even though I also thought they harbored morality

I do really like the sence of self. And though this might be a very contraversial thing to say....I kinda like it much more then the Islands of personality idea. That was the only thing that wasnt quite jelling for me in the first move, the idea that you can define a person my a handfull of personalaty chunks, that are themselfs mostly powered by a handfull of defining memories in out lifes. It felt way too....ridged..static...limiting....you know?😅 While it was wonderfully used in first movie...its the one thing that didnt quite reflect how our brains work (in comparison to other elements that is) So thats why as retcony as it is...Im kinda in favoure of the Islands of personality being more secundary to the sence of self going forth. The islands can still remain as the most defining aspects of ones personality, but there not the whole picture. It might aslo be possible that the Sence of self could get more relevent as time goes on and we have more and more experiances that for our subcontious

I have this theory of why fashion island, boy band island and tragic vampire romance island left. As, think of it when teenagers go from Joyful and happy to goth or emo, it starts out as a phase and then just they grow out of it. So, when we see the 3 islands that are no longer there, it was a phase that Riley had and grew out of it. But hey, that's just a theory, a film theory!

I hc that it became part of Family Island along with the blue-yellow memory from her reconciling with her parents. Many of the aspects of that Family Island were also from that first day of school.

I think for some of the islands to disappear or get replaced it makes sense becuz I think it is safe to say we all go through phases in our lives: Goth/Emo, Boy Band, Twilight or Harry Potter obsession. I personally know I have a variety of hyper fixations that I cycle through those memories are still there but they are not always aspects of my personality. I do which they kept some of the other islands like Fashion or the school/ technology islands at least as a she knows a decent amount of tech and can possibly help a friend or she knows enough about fashion to know what looks good together and what is less ideal fashion wise.

I was never wowed by a kids movie. But inside out 2 pushed the boat. The panic attack scene hit me. My entire teenage years were defined by anxiety and my sense of self was probably exactly like the anxiety version one in the film and seeing Disney do it in such a way really hit home.

I honestly love both of the Inside Out movies. We just watched 2 for my birthday movie (a tradition we started years ago) and it made me feel things that I didn’t want to be feeling when I started work in a few hours. It was a great movie and I honestly can’t believe I cried so much tbh

As a Psychology Major I loved this movie they way in how they refined the theme from the islands to the structure of sense was really interesting and a great way to adapt this new character Anxiety followed by her crew of Envy Embarrassment and Boredom I really enjoyed this video from u and I believe u we’re spot on with ur video and mentioning the original schemes that they had planned for introducing anxiety is really eye opening and would’ve been repetitive but the idea to eventually regroup and come up with this new idea was more structured around the true meaning of anxiety and how it portrays to all of us humans
@MichaelDavis27544 ай бұрын
I'd love to see you talk about Inside Out 2 more as that's the first film that I watched that actually made me cry Plus something that I find interesting is Anxiety was basically Joy's twin in a way it shows that through her actions and her theme (as it's a remix of the track Bundle Of Joy)

The memories are still there but they aren't as important as they used to be I think
@jay-virm4 ай бұрын
Joy sent the old core memories away at the end of the first film so I assume they head into long term like every other memory. When a core memory isn't needed or doesn't suit who she is as a person anymore, the emotions likely take it and send it out. It's also likely the core memories just get loose when they don't suit her anymore as Sadness said in the first film that one looked crooked and just fell out when she opened it to check. When Disgust says "So glad Boyband Island *finally* broke up," it feels like they wait for the islands to kind of just crumble out without the core memory like they did in the first movie, if maybe a little less destructive since Riley isn't making such drastic decisions like before.

To me I think the IOPs represent Riley’s interests, while the SOS represents how Riley perceives herself. So the Sense of Self is more introspective than the islands of personality
@DemiTrusdale34 ай бұрын
The islands of personality are interests that Riley values externally. They are like… shiny objects that reflect her tastes and interests. These such tastes, in turn influence Riley on a deep level. The core, however takes Riley’s memories, and shapes her directly. By becoming a part of who she is. The islands were at a distance from headquarters, doing their own thing in the background, while subtly influencing her, as the things that she valued. The memories that became part of Riley’s core played on loop endlessly, shaping Riley’s sense of self, on autopilot. These memories, along with how they make Riley feel, are her core, once they’re connected, they’re a part of Riley, no matter what. But the emotions coukd still strum them, to hear the messages, the meanings of the memories for themselves. The islands were outer influences, influencing Riley. The core way the emotions, automating Riley, by making her selectively at first, influence herself

Also, in Trolls 2 why was Cooper's heartbeat colour near the end of the movie pink for pop music even though he is funk royalty?

Great exploration! The sense of self is such a great concept. Each emotion (some more than others) tries to shape Riley according to their own believes. I would love to see an _Inside Out 3_ where the sense of self is able to stand above the emotions and act against their will, showcasing that Riley isn't just a puppet they control but more like a child they all helped to raise. Sure, emotions overwhelm all of us but sometimes we are able to control them.

My idea for inside out 3 is that riley moves out and is living on her own so the emotions get a message to come here and they encounter the beings that run the other organs the one well explore the most is the heart were we meet this old heart cell that has pictures of them but as babys he then shiws them 96 orbs and tells them there unformed emotions and that when they form he raises them and then introduces them to the new emotions love and surprise and makes a whisper comment saying the first emotions that form are usually joy,sadness,anger,fear,love, and surprise the movie will show the strugles of living on your own and how small desisions can have huge impacts on your body and life
@catshal10674 ай бұрын
I thought Joy already learned her lesson about keeping bad memories. Remember in the first movie she didn’t want Sadness to do anything cause she wanted Riley to be more positive and happy, but then learn that it’s ok for her to be sad sometimes.
@veronicapiccinini79564 ай бұрын
It’s not the same thing. One thing is repressing an “inconvenient” emotion out of fear of other people’s judgement (something that also Anxiety does in the second movie, albeit in a more abrasive manner than Joy); another one is repressing unwanted memories (even those that are not particularly traumatic) just because you don’t want to damage your own narrative and what you perceive about yourself

Still think Riley should’ve gotten at least one core memory in the film because pretty important stuff happened that should’ve not only shaped how she viewed her self, but also who she is.

Core personalities are fully formed at around the age 9-11 so it makes sense that they didn't touch it anymore when she got to 13 cause that aspect of herself is fully fledged, it also makes sense on a metaphor to Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) when if you experience repetitive trauma during childhood, the personalities won't be able to come together and form a single person, they split, making someone have multiple personalities. I've found this video very interesting overall

Because as adults they might have better control about there emotions. They have their lives well put together and we only see their emotions in situations where they aren't under pressure. Like spending time with Riley is not a situation that makes them anxious, embarrassed, envious or nostalgic.

I think the old personality didn't work in the end,because it wasn't true anymore/it never was true completely. Yes, in general, Riley was a "good person" but she wasn't perfect and she also could make mistakes. Joy hided all these "wrong" things. Anxiety's new personality didn't work either because it just emphasized the negative things , it made Riley frustrated.
