I mean no offense to you, but i feel like you said a bunch of words without actually addressing what appears to be the core thesis of your video based on the title (That being TDX being a "failure") The reality is that success is always dependent on the mindset you have. Tdx doesn't have the player count that TDS has, but that doesn't mean it's a failure, when it still has an active community and videos on it still get thousands of views. It's player count is no different from Tower blitz's which also wasn't a failure in its prime. I dislike your points about ttd, because by that logic TDS is a complete failure eclipsed by 10x when comparing player counts, when this is definitely not the case. Tdx isn't a failure because John hasn't given up on it. That's just how it is. The reason why TDS has more players is just common sense lol, its a simple, easy to get into game that updates weekly and is high quality. Tdx appeals to an older audience of Tower Battles Veterans, and his own fanbase. It may not be bringing in the numbers you would consider successful, but i would say it's doing just fine for itself, just like how tds is perfectly fine despite having less players than the toilet or anime games.

Your point is valid but also wrong. I’m almost lvl 500 and there are a lot of higher level players. People who have finished and got most tower can only wait for updates. However the updates are frequent but still, so people want to go try new td games that they haven’t farmed. I think it’s because more people know about tds than tdx. Playing a lot of Tower Defense games, TDS felt the most fluid and easy to get into personally. The grind wasn't nearly as painful or annoying as TDX or TB or Tower Blitz.

@@Goblonium yea exactly, tds is probs the most versatile and friendly for beginners. Giving you a tutorial on the basic mechanics and the game isn’t that complecated. Sure you have to learn about modifiers and what towers do but it’s not that hard to learn. When I first ever got commander I exactly knew what it did after I saw my towers shooting faster. Tdx took a few tries to get used to but its running pretty smoothly levelling up but the grind is again slightly more boring than tds for some reason

Gonna talk about the tower blitz part: No, the reason for tower blitz’s demise was actually because of LordCatFood and his terrible decisions (i.e removing 10 waves from each mode, bringing back surveyor for no justifiable reason). When evade was released, tower blitz was still under oster’s management for a tiny bit, so its fate wasn’t sealed, yet… and when the original devs did manage to get TBZ back after what LordCatFood has done, the damage had already been done and they had to work on a 2nd one.

I’d say tbz was actually one of my most favorite tower defense games, cause it kinda fixed the problem past tds had: variety. Back then, tds towers weren’t so good, and you had to use only a few to win, but for tbz, almost every tower was useful in some way, and had different playstyles (I liked how slinger’s playstyle was putting a lot of them instead of upgrading one and then placing another), but ever since Evade showed up and TDS got more balanced, TBZ sadly died out :C

There was this one tower defense game, that’s now dead called Universal Guardians. Pre overhaul update it was really unique as you placed towers on the path and enemies could attack them, making it feel more like plants vs zombies. Then they overhauled the game and completely changed it, from its original gameplay style to that of a generic td game. It’s sad it never reached a decent player count but the game itself had a lot of flaws that probably were factors in preventing it from securing a decent player base as the game is now dead.

TDX is anything but a failure. Not being able to overtake a game that has had 5 years to develop itself, find its direction, and has one of the hardest working team on roblox, and has proved itself to be the most polished, high quality game on entire platform with a passion project that has only been out for a year is completely normal. John never expected to overtake tds, he wanted to make his own td game with his own direction and theme that he liked, as apparent by the heavy DOOM influence in his game. He loves working on the game, and not to mention TDX still has around 4.8k players on weekends, long after the newest update. TLDR: TDX isn’t a failure just because it can’t overtake the best in its genre

I do enjoy both TDS and TDX, and I belive that TDX saved TDS. This is because TDS content was very rare during 2021-2022 but after the announcement of TDX and coming closer to the release date (somewhere at the end of November 2023) the amount of content being added to TDS became more regular. Without TDX I think that TDS would not be where it is now. Below was "scared" of TDX and make sure to protect his own game and that came out very good for the players.

Honestly not sure how to feel about this video but ill say this to two points Tower blitz was NOT the first td game to have to paths, Im not entirely sure which game is but there's a much older game called "Mecha Cubes" that has two upgrade paths for each tower. Also putting my hat here, I feel like a game losing players after some time from a major update is normal. The Tower Defense genre on Roblox has been getting very dry lately, and it’s mainly due to people just making their games based on other td games I am a TD game developer on Roblox, I worked on Evolution Evade until it got discontinued. We are currently working on a successor to it called Chrono Warfare. I believe that the reason why TDS managed to keep their players every update is simply because they have been gaining tons of players ever since the competition with tower battles. John Roblox managed to show it off to many people, which gives it tons of players as they want to try out the game (even Markiplier played TDS before, it was crazy.) TDX and TDS are easily compatible, they both have similar structures. But the difference between both of them is their playstyle. TDS is much easier to get into than TDX, as TDX is made for more hardcore TD players. So it makes sense that TDX is only trying to get their current playerbase to keep playing the game rather than focusing on new players that much. I don’t think it’s even worth mentioning TTD as it got popular only due to the skibidi toilet trend which is a common tactic on Roblox. Leeching off trends is an easy way to gain attraction. Comparing TTD to TDS is quite literally like having a coughing baby fight a hydrogen bomb. It’s not even close to matching it in quality and gameplay as it’s just a gambling “game”. I do hope TD games get better in the next few years. It may sound like I’m asking too much, but it just needs to happen. I believe people should try to come up with their own structures for their game rather than taking an already existing one. Having something new can make you stand out, plenty of td games have done this before, but they do sadly end up getting abandoned due to wanting to work on other games or quitting altogether.

Look id say both games are good i preferably like more TDX because the game has various types of stuff to grind in like endless etc. Powerups are something i loved ingame,specially for the fact it's actually using millitary warfare weaponry n stuff. TDS is an game i enjoy playing sometimes. I don't like grinding in it as much as tdx because the battles in event arent really well.. cool. Id say let's take chapter 3 on tdx as an example. Enemies deal damage to your base along with the little cool thing as to where if an boss steps on your tower it get's damaged,the soundtrack on tdx is amazing,violent phonk fits perfectly with big ass killer robots who cause mass destruction (try endless to see what im talking about) you're towers die aswell in tdx making it so you just don't stall and do nothing when bosses stun you're units. I prefer TDX over TDS. But I also understand that TDS' player count is higher and more stable compared to TDX's because TDS is much easier to get into; it's less harsh against newer players and the game is overall more casual. TDX is a bit more harsher on the player, it's a game that expects the player to already have an understanding and idea of what they are playing and what they could expect. It's also why TDX might seem more 'difficult' and 'punishing' compared to TDS.

I would not say that TDX is dying, it's just that they are in their downtime between updates, since John's team is not nearly as big as Paradoxum (poor Atraz, soloing the coding) plus there is not much content for people to play, since those who grinded the game since day 1 have nothing to do, and those who don't want to grind see this mountain of gold and go: "nah, fuck that, ima come back for the event" and I am one of those people. That, and TDS's accumulated reputation over the years means that the one thing TDX needs is just some time to refine and polish.

A game that hasn’t died and has been around for quite a while that I think is super underrated is “Doomspire Defense” It has a good amount of content, polish, masteries for towers, side modes, and more. It’s a really fun game that I can’t recommend to tower defense lovers enough. I think it deserves to stand in the big leagues but sadly can’t get as many players as these games.

Also they've just introduced multiple tower upgrade paths along with the Pursuit rework. As well as copy the freezing system after TDX released theirs. It wins all the time because no one in the Roblox scene actually makes their games unique anymore after tower battles and astd. Literally every single tower defense game on Roblox right now just feel like carbon copies of the two games mentioned gameplay wise but with different modes and looks. An example of a creative tower defense game outside of Roblox is plants vs zombies. I bet most people didn't even know that was a tower defense game because of how everything on Roblox are just copycats of each other with SLIGHT variety.

Tower Blitz and TDX are my all-time favourite TD games on roblox. They're both so creative, unique, fun and challenging, and set themselves apart from their peers. TDX, for example, has Endless mode (which is not endless). It is THE MOST fun i've had on a roblox TD game and is so insane and tense you feel like the FBI is raiding your house. I find TDX's grind more interesting than TDS, so I like to stick to TDX than TDS. All games in this comment are amazing! lol

Every update is a cash grab that adds more goofy animations or robux exclusive skins to make little children wanna buy them. There is always one thing that makes me sad about tower defense games is that... New tower defense games with low efforts, for an example like Toilet Tower Defense. They're just basically cash grabbing games that attract children by adding brainrot characters in. But somehow still overwhelming TDS or TDX in playerbase. These players cant just understand what's good and what's not. New gen is absolutely doomed.

Tower battles only reason being alive is that theres something to grind for and only exclusive to the pvp mode so new players will play pvp mode to get that special thing. Theyre try to find every good combo for tower loadouts for pvp but most of the time they keep losing cuz there are still active best tb players trolling noobs with meta loadouts or simply being better. Thats my experience on why i accidentally grinded tb for golden commando. Might get huntsman if the brackets work within my time

Tds doesn’t always win, it does win a lot tho. Tds wins so much because its a mix of every tower defense game all in one with a bunch of extra things, tds has skin crates where you hope to get something good but never do and some of these are very grindy like the golden crate which costs 50k(50 fallen wins), tds also has skin quests like the hazmat accelerator quest or the phantom commander quest which takes a while because it requires hardcore matches. Tds is also one of the higher quality games on roblox as well and tds knows how to keep someone playing for a while by having matches take a certain amount of time on average and weekly updates. This game mainly just has so much variety compared to other tower defense games on roblox so ofc it would win more than the other games, as far as what i think though, tds is super overhyped and a game like tower heroes or world tower defense is obviously better but has less players. TDS has less variety compared to a game like tower heroes, it may have higher quality but tower heroes just does so many things better than tds like character design, map design, difficulty, skins, events, and a lot more but all of this would be overlooked for the average roblox player because of tds’s quality in everything.

Tower blitz actually could beat tds in 2021, if tds kept its tendency on delaying updates and Tower blitz got the attention it deserved. Also, if tbz devs didn't mess up with their project. Tdx, on another side, could do the same, if it was released in 2021 or in summer 2023. But our reality is - the game was released on November 2023, too late as tds has already got an event, so its player bade was busy beating it. It was easy to take crown from Tower Battles, but hard to do the same from tds.

I got to say the best tds games at the moment are: 1. TDS ( my favourite game ever, I have played it from old and it’s always been class. It would be even better if they fixed the bug but they are working on it and they have cooked massively this year with the new dev team with many reworks and new towers and decent events and mini events) 2. Tdx ( Amazing game, I barely lag at all, tds needs this type of smooth gameplay. Also cool towers and a nice challenging game with some cool towers like relic. I just find the grind a bit boring idk why. Still though love the game and I do hope it doesn’t die. It doesn’t have to beat tds but as long as it stays I’m fine) 3. Doomspire defence (it’s actually an amazing and I say it has the most fun towers out of both games. Sad they removed pizza 😭)

I think the reason why Tds is so fun and why I no longer play Tdx aside from completing the battle passes and unlocking towers(My accounts value is hopefully gonna skyrocket a few years down the line😅), is beacause Tds has a very fun gameplay loop. As someone who primarily plays on mobile (I find it easier than most consoles), the constant spamming of towers and intense difficulty spikes in Tdx’s gameplay is just one that I don’t find enjoyable and have actually made me genuinely mad at times (Tower blitz is good but just doesn’t have the amount of players needed for a primarily multiplayer tower defence game. And Tower battles is just so old that I just prefer the unique ascetic and fluid animations that Tds has to offer) . Whereas tds is not too challenging but also not to boring to the point where it feels stale and sloppy. The tower designs are the best in any Roblox td game, the animations are incredibly fun and lively, the enemy variety is great and doesn’t feel repetitive, the maps are great even if some do show their age, I don’t know what their doing with the lore but hey- it works, and the cartoony style really works as well as feeling polished (this is why Btd6 is the best tower defence game overall). Looking at this argument from a different video gaming prospective, yes Overwatch and Apex are newer and have new mechanics to offer, there’s a reason why many people come back to TF2 when playing class based shooters, it’s fun, has a great gameplay loop and has a great art style. Overall what I’m saying is that at the end of the day, I play Video games for fun, and hey if you enjoy Tdx’s more difficult and challenging gameplay or Tower blitz’s unique abilities and towers then hey, all power to you. But Tds will always be the best TD game for me (on Roblox) simply because is fun and charming- like what games are meant to be. (I did not expect to write an essay lol😅)
