Next CBA if they need to either let RB's be able to be draft eligible earlier than other positions or allow their rookie deals to be less deals. Positional value is not high anymore, but it is still not to the players at other positions favor to allow them to continue to be underpaid and valued.

Maybe its time to give RB's incentive rookie contracts so if their play exceeds their status as rookies they still get paid the dollars they deserve. After their rookie deal its the same but the contract comes down to years and what the floor (money wise) is?

@@b3ardmandan439hold ins plus mysterious back or sore muscle “injuries” that are difficult to disprove. These RBs can play 6 games, get their accrued season, and then have a “back injury” and sit out.

​@@davidsheehan3966And do what? No team is giving a hold out running back a contract of any value, that's the point. There is nowhere to hide. If you're a running back, nobody is paying you, which means you have no recourse. Ekeler found that out quick. If teams start dealing with a rash of hold-ins, they'll just start stockpiling running backs on the cheap and you'll be replaced in the lineup. And let's face it, if they were able to play DE or WR or CB, they'd already be playing those positions. It was determined at some point in a player's past that he wasn't suited for or capable of playing higher value positions.

@@AlexTrevelyan it's about creating leverage against the team. There will be a drop off in quality from guys like Barkley, Jacobs, to the backups of the RB world. They have no better alternative than to start withholding services and because formal holdouts are heavily fined they'll have to hold in

This makes total sense. DE, WR and QB so much more valuable then RB’s. If some players get paid larger % of cap, others have to lose. Just basic math.

This is why the lions drafting Gibbs was an excellent choice. He is a top tier receiver on top of being a skilled RB. He will be able to be like Kamara type player for the lions. Everyone clowned on them for the pick, but really they’ve secured a long term weapon. Who will be valued more due to his dual threat nature

I’m sure he can play. Are there guys in later rounds who could give the same production? Most likely. All these teams trending to tag their RBs so it actually may start making more sense for teams to take RBs later in the 1st rd so they get that 5yr option. The Raiders and Jacobs still make zero sense. Decline his 5th yr and the tag him 😂. Just wasted a tag for NO reason lol. Idiots. But other teams like Detroit, Atlanta, and even Pats, may be seeing something w/ taking RBs in the first

Players need to make changes to the rookie deal. 3 years, no option year. That should be the primary goal by players for the next CBA.

A new rookie structure for all positions? Because ownership would shut the league down before they allowed that. Second, it wouldn't help running backs even if you went that route. It's a supply issue. More dudes can play running back at a high level than TE or WR or OT. Period. There are x number of RB slots in the entire league and the pool of good ones far exceeds the demand. Teams would just draft RBs later and more frequently. You're not paying these guys, there isn't a fix here.

After all the talk this week I believe the problem here is the cap. In MLB Middle infielders find themselves just as disposable as RBs do in the NFL... but there's not the problem that NFL has why? Because GMs don't have as MUCH too balance a great team with the money the are alotted ie a GM might be alotted 600mj in MLB and Derrik Jeter has solid job security well after his legs fall out from under him. But in the NFL your always gonna have that 200 or 300m salary cap to deal with no matter what. The MLB has the Oakland A's or the Penny Pinchin Rays or Royals sure, but no one is complaining cuz they KNOW that's just how these teams will be run AND they can just demand a trade. In the NFL you're just stuck.

Sam Monson keeps reffering to Saquon or Brandon Jacobs not showing up to camp as a "Hold Out". As far as I know neither of them have signed the tender so THIS IS NOT A HOLD OUT. The risk, however is that at any time before the player does sign the tender the team can rescind it and they become a free agent which is bad timing because every team has pretty much set it's roster and budgeted their money.

Saquon and Josh need to sit out the season to send the message that the nfl can no longer treat elite rbs like condoms. Or they can play the season and if either of their teams make the playoffs they can sit out the playoffs with absolutely no penalties.

I think what has devaluated RB market is the talking head community and pundits! RBs touch the ball the 3rd most out everyone on the field! The truth is there has been a transfer of wealth to the QB market! By the pundits logic, why pay a QB? You can get the best QB of all time in the 6th round! Let RBs leave college early and end the tag!

I love how everyone has just left out King Henry. Henry got his 2k season “after” he signed his second contract. And has not dropped off. So stop acting like there’s not any running backs out there. It would make sense for the Giants to tag him again if he has a similar season and by that point the goal should be that the oline and receiving core is good enough to where they don't need a Barkley.
