The most beautiful car and so technically advanced . So cutting edge , even now , and I have always loved the suspension system.

I had the rare honour for my 21st birthday present in 1974 here to drive the new fuel injected Right Hand Drive SM owned by a neighbour who lived up the street, here in Sydney, I had a GS... as did my dad. It was a mind-blowing experience... The closest I came to ownership was a new 1978 CX Prestige EFI 5 speed with leather. It's self centring steering had 2.5 turns lock to lock v the SM - 2 turns. The CX missed out on the brake button - the brake valve was disguised as a pedal.

I used to drive a silver SM (ODP 591M) in the West End of London back in the late 70s. A wonderful car to drive and a real head turner.

How amazing do you think this Citroen was back then and how much did it impress you today?

I learnt to drive in my father’s Citroen GS 45 years ago here in England and fell in love with the whole range at the time. I also drove a 2CV, Ami 8, Dyane and CX. My first new car was a Visa Club. The XM is one of my dream cars to own and I think it is simply stunning. Citroen were such an innovative car company with models such as the Traction Avant all the way through to the XM. It is such a shame that the company seems to have lost its innovative spirit these last 25 years but with the current Ami perhaps that spirit is stirring again.

@@timelessdriving I have very happy memories of Citroens. Over the years I have had Fords, many BMWs, a Jaguar XJ8, a Mercedes S320Cdi and now a fantastic Audi A8. Yet I still miss driving the old Citroens as they had so much character. The air-cooled engines of the 2CV etc. were fantastic but it’s just a shame that Citroen never really developed a high end performance engine in-house. I look forward to your next video.

First thing you do when looking at a Citroen is look underneath to see how bad the hydraulic fluid leak is. ;-)

I own a 40 year old CX with this absolutely wonderful hydropneumatic system... no leaks. All it takes is regular maintenance. Just like any other machine then. Flush out the green blood every 2 years. Don't let the car sit for too long. Drive it regularly. My car is fine and goes brilliantly at 40...

Such a pity Citroen couldn't make a car that didn't rust to bu--ery, like the CX too, so that almost none remain... I LOVE the SM!
@jhdb21942 ай бұрын
@@bobphillips2188 Citroen models do not rust more than other cars. And the SM for example is equipped with stainless steel bumpers; they last much longer than chromed bumpers. Bonnet is made of high quality aluminium. And the protection against rust was as good as the best cars of the era. My SM from 1972 has always been rust free. And frankly the quality overall is second to none: the leather used for the seats and the design and adjustability of these seats are superb , stainless steel shift gears, aluminium dash board etc… it quite a high end quality car, on top of the very advanced technology.

Uno de los coches más bonitos de la historia del automóvil. Tenía un motor Maserati porque en aquella época Maserati pertenecía a Citroen.
@josedealbuquerquejr.9413 ай бұрын
I don’t agree with you, Maseratis from Citroen era were amongst the best ever made, Indy, Bora, Merak, Khamsim, timeless reliable and well crafted cars
@jhdb21942 ай бұрын
Yes Citroen technology brought massive improvements in terms of suspension design (independent rear suspension), breaking effectiveness, steering accuracy and responsiveness, plus other comfort improvements. And the first Maserati with central engine positioning ( Bora, Merak).
@johnhenrique8780 Жыл бұрын

What is Bizarre about this car --- its a very weel thought out and made car full stop
@MrGoogelaar7 ай бұрын
So well thought out that they were without an engine after their plan to develop their own six cylinder engine was not happening, so well thought out that they had to buy another company and then gave that company a deadline of six months to supply the engine, so well thought out that that company, Maserati, took one of their V8 engines and simply cut off two cylinders to be able to produce the V6 in time...all very well thought out...build a car and then run around to find something to propel the car...indeed very well thought out...
