Seems like a very complex and expensive process, Europe has a huge amount of shale gas which has yet to be exploited. Given the current situation it's a real shame no one thought about doing that.

Why do you cool the gas after compressing it? If you compress it, it needs to gain heat. But then if you take heat away from it, the pressure drops with the heat removal, doesn’t it?

Removing the heat does not necessarily lead to a drop in pressure, check out Charles's law. As a matter of fact, as the gas cools off it further contracts, and as long as it is not allowed to perform work by expanding, its pressure will stay constant. Hope that clears things
