How Does Your Homeschooling Compare? How Does Your Life Compare?

We can all fall into the trap of thinking that others have it easier or do things better or are more "normal" or holy that we are. I call this the Comparison Trap.
It's not healthy or helpful, but it is terribly commonplace. It's especially prolific because the powers that be know they can control us more easily if we are peer-dependent. We buy more and work harder if we put the opinions of others as what defines us.

I just wrote down a quote of yours in my "spiritual encouragement commonplace book" (my new name for it after learning about commonplace books from you! I have also started a literary commonplace book. :). I just want to thank you for your videos. They have been so helpful and encouraging to me. I'm a 49 year old homeschooling mom to 6 children. 3 of my children are grown and the youngest three are 5, 9 and 13. We began homeschooling when my oldest was in the middle of her 5th grade year. We were very near to your style of homeschooling, however, your videos have helped me to feel more freedom in doing things "differently". I love how you talk about your daughter in South Korea. I lived in China for 5 years in an apartment and went through some of those comparison struggles. My life looked nothing like the life of a Christian homeschool mom in America. I had to stop looking at the curricula, resources, yard space/gardens, decor, opportunities, lifestyle, etc. that those moms had and focus on Christ.

Years ago I realized that spending time scrolling through FB really brought me down by comparing myself and my life to others' and never seeming to quite measure up. So I decided to stay off of FB. KZbin can really serve the same negative purpose in my life, like what you were describing, so there are oh so few channels I watch these days. Hi Sherry, you are such a blessing to all of us:) I homeschool but am currently in the hospital for a few more weeks (car accident on Christmas Eve) . My husband and 4 young children had some injuries but were released from the hospital early on. They’re staying with my family now. We decided to just take a break while I’m still in recovering. I feel such peace about it. There will be time to do homeschool later. I didn’t want anyone taking over for me. I’d still like to tune into your content in the meantime:)

So grateful for you! I quit my job to stay home to care for my family last March and also I felt the Lord leading me to homeschool my 6 year old for the first time.
