I have a lot of childhood trauma based around dolls. I still find myself hiding my doll collection from my family and friends. I think it’s bc of the way my father treated me for being a boy who liked dolls. He was so brutal with his words. One of my earliest memories is him throwing my dolls in the trash before taking me to school where I had to pretend that I was okay. I was literally 4 at the time. I tell myself I need to get over that, but childhood traumas are some of the hardest to get through. Thanks for this video 💖

Massive respect for you, as someone who had their stuffed toy collection thrown out because it was too childish i feel you on that one. Childhood trauma is hard, especially if its someone taking away your source of comfort. I hope you and your doll collection the best ^^

My mom has always been super supportive of my love of dolls but I lost the ones I had as a kid in a house fire so I guess nobody gets out unscathed 🤷‍♀

I loved how you mentioned your dolls shouldn’t be the only thing that’s making you happy. I feel like a lot of us forget dolls aren’t the only things in our lives that bring happiness. We are the ones who control our happiness and should take the time to care for ourselves not just the dolls💙💙

This hit so hard when you said you don't tell people this hobby. I am the most open person. But when talking to new people I'm so scared to talk about doll collecting. I've had so many negative responses. I'm in a local autism group on facebook and they were talking shit about Bratz dolls in it. The one place you'd think I could be myself in 😂... This is what I tell people who think my doll collecting is childish. I grow with my childhood interests, not out of them. Thanks for sharing. I'd love more people to do videos liks this.

Im a doll collector of a different variety (i collect vintage porcelain clowns so a little different from those gorgeous fashion dolls you collect huh 😅) but i totally relate to the situation, doll collecting is shunned more than funko pop collecting and lego set collecting. It bothers me alot People are bothered by my collection because they think collecting clown dolls is a really eccentric childish and "creepy" hobby but its really more of comfort hobby dispite what people usually say about clowns (i get it all the time, it shouldn't hurt my feelings as much as it does but yknow cant control that) i love your collection ^^ dispite not having any fashion dolls or growing up with fashion dolls i do have an appreciation for them (i really love honey swamp from monster high, i think shes so darn adorable aa! and everything i could ever want out of a doll!!) ^^ happy collecting everyone! From every kind of doll alike!

To be accepted you need to accept yourself. People can’t pick on someone who is confident in who they are, they pick on those who are insecure. The more you believe what the negative people have to say the more it will affect your mental health. Negative people always have something to say, either you collect stickers, dolls, coins, shoes, clothes. If you act like it’s normal and believe it’s normal than people will think it’s normal…over time, there’s a huge doll community already so…it’s not that weird. People just need to accept all different types of people.

I really relate to your experience and feelings with doll collecting. I've only started collecting a year ago, at the time I was really depressed and didn't know where to find my happiness. I remembered I've always wanted a Monster high or Ever After High doll though it didn't begin with them. What got me into collecting was Hairdorables. Then it continued to MH, EAH and RH. My life revolved around dolls and it does get overwhelming. Sometimes I also get embarrassed when other people see my collection. It made me wish I didn't have as many as I did. But sometimes there are people who are understanding as you said. They know that my dolls were the thing that got me through during tough times. People are different in how they find happiness, and shouldn't be teased or ridiculed for it.

sometimes i feel embarassed about my dolls as well for example my cousin went into my room last year because he was setting up my pc and he saw all of my 70 dolls displayed idk.. but my mom thinks they’re pretty and my friends also like it.

Yeah some people can be judgemental about your dolls, i can relate to that. My mother dispises me porcelain clown doll collection more than anything but i find them a source of relief to come back to. ^^ i bet your dolls are awesome!

thank you for talking about this! it’s important to maintain our mental health and i’m sure we all had a moment where we were clinging onto dolls in an unhealthy manner. not to mention all the stigma that comes with doll collecting…

I remember hearing this saying that this video reminded me of, you can be the most beautiful sweetest peach on the tree... but that does not changed the fact that some people just don't like peaches. confidence is just one of those things that some people have to build, so keep the construction going! Dollys 💖

Loved this video so much! I used be the same with bratz where I just bought as many as I could when I found them cheap even when I wasn’t looking for those specific dolls. I was constantly cleaning them, displaying them and I felt so overwhelmed by them. Beginning of this year I did downsize my bratz collection (still have plenty) but I feel so much better and hope to downsize more to just my favourites because I feel like it’s better to just keep what I actually want.

Ngl I cried while watching this video- Personally I never cared what others thought of me because I know i’m weird as hell- but I do struggle with space and being broke lol. I have so many LOL OMG dolls, Barbie Dolls, and other things I want 2 get rid of but I hate how my family holds me back on selling my stuff (they don’t want me 2 sell my stuff) so most of the dolls I have are dolls I don’t want anymore and it overwhelms me sm- I just want Bratz dolls, Lalaloopsy dolls, and Rainbow High dolls I actually like I’ve got too many damn dolls I don’t want anymore- And i’m always broke so it’s not like I can afford dolls I actually want- :,/// Anyways I hope u were able to get out the words u needed 2 get out I’m glad ur the type 2 tackle issues within the doll world (we definitely need more collectors like that) so this was indeed a great video from start 2 finish :} P.S. I hope ur doing alright! ε=ε=ε=ε=ε=ε=┌(; ̄◇ ̄)┘

Thank you for this video ! this was such an interesting topic ! I do not spend my whole time with my dolls but I used to at some point because it was (and still is) a kind of safe place to help me cope with difficult or stressful situations. It's thanks to dolls I learned sewing, knitting and crocheting as well and I craft mostly only for dolls so they are very linked to calming activities for me. I am also quite secretive about my doll collection. I have always had dolls, and being younger (until about 12-13) it was not a problem but unfortunately I had a bad experience : I found out that cousins I felt really close to (I considered them almost as best friends) were mocking me behind my back because they knew I still had dolls being a teenager at the time. Of course I quickly understood that they were not as friendly as I had hoped but it really influenced me and made me suspicious. Since then, I decided to do not mention my doll collection to other people than my close family because they often come to my place or live with me (actually even my best friends don't know because they never saw my room with my doll shelves). I think I am just worried about judgement, to be only associated with that because it's considered unusual by most people. So I avoid the topic and keep it for myself. But I have to say that social media is quite helpful about that and it's amazing to have the opportunity to share our passion and talk freely about it 🤗 I also am on instagram so it helps, I think I will eventually feel more confortable talking about my collection but it just takes time to trust again on this topic and not be afraid of judgement, but time will tell !

i really get not wanting to talk about your collection to others, last year people asked me questions like what are my hobbies what i like and stuff but idk, i got so many comments about it that i just dont want to share that anymore. however if anyone asks to see them im always glad to show them off since theyre a huge part of me and im so proud of where i am now with my collection and with myself, they truly helped me.

the only time i could criticize someone collecting dolls is if they are using all their money on that, like not paying bills or not taking a pet to the vet because they spent all the money on dolls or whatever, but other than that its fine

Doll collecting and loving dolls is very sentimental. For me, I lost all my Barbie dolls from constant moving, traveling...I lost all my beloved dolls 😥❤ now I'm back to collecting and buying dolls and toys. I want to do and buy what I want because when I was child, nobody bought me a Barbie.
