At age nine in 1965, we toured the Universal Studios backlot in LA; it was a new concept back then. We were promised a tour of one soundstage (The Munsters), one dressing room (Yvonne De Carlo) and one celebrity meet-and-greet. Our celebrity was Charlie from Wagon Train. He arrived in a golf cart that had a covered-wagon cloth top. He took out a magic marker and asked each of us to sign his wagon canopy. We rode a tram to Mockingbird Lane, and got to see many faux-houses from TV & movies (Now it's called Wisteria Lane). Good times.......

@@FactsVerse - Yes, I did. I was a cub scout, and Charlie talked about how to cook over a fire. He was in costume and in character. I thought it was a totally cool experience. We also got to see the outdoor filming locations for McHale's Navy, The Munsters, I believe Leave it to Beaver...... THe show Wagon Train was popular at the time, and Charlie was truly a friendly, comical and engaging man considering his celebrity.

Without a doubt, my favorite actor was Ward Bond. He was cast perfectly; he was a father-figure, an authoritarian. Very intense when he had to be, but had a soft side, as well. Too bad he died fairly young. I miss him in his Wagon Train role. I would have liked to see him play the wagon master character throughout the entire run of the series.

You need to update your records. Robert Horton was always my favorite actor on Wagon Train. When I was 6 years old, a new housing development opened nearby and my dad took my sister and I to the grand opening. They made a big deal of those back in those days, with balloons and a mini-carnival set up to bring people in. They also brought in Robert Horton, all dressed up in his Flint McCullough costume. He let us sit next to him while he signed autographs. I just adored him - still do in fact!

Ward Bond played cop BERT in "It's a Wonderful Life", and his best pal was Frank Feylen who played ERNIE the cab driver.
@michaelpalmieri7335
@michaelpalmieri7335 2 жыл бұрын
Frank Faylen appeared on "The Many Loves Of Dobie Gillis" in the role of Dobie's father, Herbert T. Gillis. He was also in the film musical "Funny Girl" (1968) with Barbra Streisand as Ziegfeld Follies star Fanny Brice, a role she had played in the Broadway musical play of the same title. Faylen played Mr. Keeney, the cranky owner of a vaudeville house where the then teenage Fanny Brice tries out for the chorus, but Mr. Keeney fires her right away because she has "skinny legs."

@@Jimeo722 Actually, the creators of Bert and Ernie have always denied that the two muppets were named after the characters from "It's A Wonderful Life" that you mentioned, insisting that it was all just a coincidence. Incidentally, Bert and Ernie were also the names of two characters from a science-fiction film (I don't remember the title) and from an episode of the TV sitcom "Night Court."

This past year I have been watching Watching Wagon Train on INSP. I was only 2 years old when it first aired in 57 and remember very little of it as a kid. I think the whole cast was terrific. And what a blast it is to see young guest characters actors and actresses that made their way to stardom as I grew, and some in more of their twilight years also. I think back to the people from the 1840s to mostly into the 1870s that made these trips to the golden west and what an arduous journey that was. Figures range from 5 to 10 percent would die, mostly to disease (cholorae and diptheria) and accidents with the wagons and draft animals. And far more mules and oxen were used, instead of horses. And a great amount of time was to feeding and watering these animals. Also unlike the show portrays, Indian attacks were rare. For the most part, Indian interactions was for the purpose of trading. And if they did attack, they sure as hell would not ride around in circles, setting themselves up as easy targets. Also most men did not wear low slung pistol gun belts and holsters These did not come into existance until the 1950s for hollywood purposes. Instead any that were used were military type. The weapon of choice was a rifle and shotgun. What a shame Ward Bond died to young. I remember seeing a picture this year of Terry Wilson and John Wayne carring his coffin. I met Denny Miller in Palm Springs back in the 1990s. Nice guy and his license plate was XTARZAN. I am also watching Rawhide at this time and it was easy to see why Clint Eastwood became the huge star he is. Also such a shame that Eric Fleming died a year or so after it's ending filming a movie in the Amazon on a raging river rapids they should have never filmed on.

I just got into Wagon Train about a month ago when I saw the last few minutes of the episode "Clyde" where Charlie had a bison for a pet on the train. From there, I began watching it & got hooked on it for its wholesome acting & moral values. My favorite characters from the show are the main cast members from all seasons: Major Seth Adams, Flint McCullough, Bill Hawks, Charlie Wooster, Chris Hale, Duke Shannon, & Barnaby West. I've only seen a couple episodes with Cooper Smith, so he's not been added to my list yet. My favorite episode I've seen most recently is "The Vincent Eaglewood Story" & I'm currently looking for all 8 seasons on DVD (which is proving difficult). But even though Wagon Train is an old show, it's one of the good ones & I hope it continues to air on TV for as long as time allows!

I was born in 1961 so I was alittle young at the time, but over the years I have heard of "Wagon Train" and loving westerns I am going to look into this series of "Wagon Train" and watch some of it. One of the actors on "Wagon Train" that I am famaliar with is "Robert Fuller" my parents and I watched "Emergency" in the 1970's and I remember him being on it. He would be my favorite of Wagon Train. I will gives these actors of Wagon Train credit they all had successful acting careers and a few of them was well educated individuals graduating the top of their class which is a very positive path in life to take.

Wagon Train appeared on British TV every Sunday evening between 8pm to 9pm. I was 13 yrs old and would still have to go to wash and clean my teeth as soon as it finished then bed ready for school the following morning. However I was allowed to watch the trailer for the following weeks program that delayed the inevitable by just a couple of minutes. It was a time when all the big stars would appear at the London Palladium which was also broadcast live on British TV and pulled in massive audiences. Of course one week Robert Horton from wagon train who had a massive British fan base appeared and sang several songs. I loved the show and never missed an episode.
