That is actually not a softlock. A True softlock is where the game doesn’t freeze or crash but you can’t exit the level or anything and you have to physically restart the game.

In Mario Kart DS, you can crash the game by selecting Luigi's Mansion, driving up to the stairs and then, on the stairs, just press A, B and Left. Not sure if the buttons are exactly right. Also, another way to crash Super Mario 64 DS is by going to Shifting Sand Lands and selecting any star besides 1 and 5. Reason being is because to do this, you need Klepto to attack you, and in those two stars, that isn't gonna happen, since in star 1, Klepto's holding a star in his talons and in star 5, he isn't in the level. What you need to do now is grab one of those wooden boxes and then make your way over to where Klepto is. If Klepto sees you, then he'll attack and if that happens, and you're still holding the box, the game will crash the second Klepto touches you. You can also crash Super Mario Odyssey if you fall into the lava at the same time you capture Bowser.

In Super Paper Mario chapter 7-1, if you go into 3D, and go behind the pipe at the edge of the screen, then go to 2d, it’s a soft lock because you can only use 3D when on the ground, and you can’t return to flipside unless you are on the ground. You can’t touch the ground because there is an enemy you can’t defeat that is blocking the ground, and it’s a 1x1 area, so the enemy is the only thing you can step on.

If you beat chapter 7, then use the peach warp glitch in mount lava lava to complete chapter 8, and then save, the game will attempt to play a peach intermission, but since there is none such thing past chapter 8, the game softlocks with Bowser's castle floating up in the sky.

In Super Mario 64 you can crash the game on save selection screen. As soon as you press Start on the title screen, move the Control Stick down, then press A when the cursor is on the green tile. Timing on this can be a bit tricky. You'll get the message that the save data doesn't exist. The message won't fade out, though. I remembered how i softlocked a Paper Mario Sticker Star. If you somehow will kill the chain chomp with hammer (It easy do with cheats) Mario will levitate with hammer animation and this is a softlock.
